Akamatsuverse Groom of Darkness

1594...

The Dutch Caravel dropped anchor in Chimu Bay, and swarthy figures shouted at each other as they moved about the trading vessel. Onshore, the inhabitants of Yanabaru stared at each other in confusion. Many of the traders from China had spoke of strange people from distant lands, who travelled on huge ships for years at a time. Could these strange people on that strange craft be them?

A young woman who was shopping for her family looked at the ship and shivered. She did not know why, but that vessel had a feeling of.... a feeling of darkness in it's very timbers...

On the Caravel, the Captain knocked on the door of one of the cabins. "Lady McDowell? We've landed a party on the shore, and I was wondering if you'd like to go onshore as well..." he called in French.

"No, Captain. I shall make my own arrangements, thank you.." a high-pitched feminine voice replied sternly, also in French.

Inside the cabin, a beautiful European woman with pale blonde hair and eyes as blue as the night sky looked out over the gentle waters of the bay. Turning her head back towards where the shore was, Lady Evangeline A. K. McDowell, otherwise known as the infamous 'Dark Evangel', amongst other names, smirked as her senses twinged on something interesting. She walked out onto the deck, blinking and shading her eyes from the mid-afternoon sunshine, and gazed out towards the township. Her senses had definately detected it; a sense of someone with powerful magic potential in their blood, but at the same time, a delicious taste of pure innocence. To feast on that, while adding to her own power... she had to grip the deckrail for an instant as a wave of anticipation left her giddy.

Taking careful note of the 'scent', she strode purposefully back into her cabin. "Chachazero, come here." she summoned.

The chest by her bunk worked itself open, and a tiny green-haired doll clambered out with some difficulty.

"Yes, Master?" it rasped, its' voice rough from underuse. "Are we going to kill something, Master?" it asked eagerly, pulling out a pair of slim daggers from who-knew-where.

"No, but but I'm going out tonight, and I might need your help." Evangeline responded. Chachazero grinned evilly; she knew what her Master meant by that. She would be feeding tonight...

=====================================================

As night fell over Okinawa, a young brunette woman sat on the steps in front of her parents' home, gazing up at the stars as she worked on a piece of parchment. The events of the day had unsettled her greatly, and she had began to work on creating protective talismans as soon as she had returned home. Carefully, she began to place brushstrokes on the parchment, just as her grandmother had taught her. With each stroke, the parchment glowed faintly for a moment as it was imbued with protective magic.

Finally, as the sun set fully over the horizon, she finished her work, and began to walk around the small estate her family had owned for generations, placing the talismans where ever she could.

The door opened as she went past. "Mutsumi! Come inside, dinner is almost ready!" a woman called.

"Yes, mama..." the young woman responded, heading to place the last few talismans before she did.

As she approached one corner of the garden, there was a soft rustle in the cherry tree that grew there. As Mutsumi looked up into the tree, a figure leaped over the wall and silently landed behind her.

"A little late to be out isn't it, Mutsumi Otohime?" the figure asked.

=====================================================

Evangeline smirked, revealing a long fang as the brown haired girl shrank back in fright. This was what she lived for. Up in the tree Chachazero held her knives ready, in case the prey tried to run. She hoped that the girl would run...

*Fwip-fwip*

Eva had extended her fingers, and caught Mutsumi in her power. She chuckled. Not for nothing was she called the Doll Master! Strolling over to the trapped girl, she smiled the smile of a conqueror. "Chachazero, hold her head steady." she ordered.

"Yes, Master!" the malicious mannequin agreed, jumping from the tree, and pulling Mutsumi's head to one side. Eva leaned down and bared her teeth. "Are you paying attention, my dear Otohime-san?" she said teasingly, before sinking her fangs in.

Mutsumi gasped and groaned as white-hot fire filled her veins. Evangeline for her part moaned softly. She'd been right; the innocence in this girls' blood, coupled with her magical potential, made her blood taste sweeter than honey. In light of this, given the fact that Eva had not fed for many months, she could be forgiven for being just a little bit greedy.

Mutsumi slid bonelessly out of Eva's grasp and collapsed onto the soft earth under her. The vampire wiped a few traces of blood from her mouth, pleased with how well the girl's blood had sated her hunger. She dismissed the feeling of a slight drain on her magical core as being her use of magic to hold the girl.

"Chachazero, dispose of the body." she said, preparing to jump over the wall and away. She paused shen she saw her Minstra's expression. "What is it now?"

"Master..." a voice said softly from behind the two. Evangeline stiffened, and slowly turned around. Mutsumi Otohime slowly forced herself up off the ground and stood facing the two of them. Her eyes, once a placid, soulful dark brown, now were the colour of rusted iron, and two fangs were slowly, but visibly forming in her mouth.

Evangeline started kicking herself. Why, oh why, oh why hadn't she taken more precautions? She was a wanted criminal, and now she also had a responsibility to make sure that this girl didn't cause her even more troubles.

"Master, what is going on?" Chachazero asked. Evangeline frowned. Obviously she'd need to take this girl with her. More to the point, she'd need to be tought the ins and outs of magic, as well as vampirism. A small grin crossed her face. On reflection, it could be fun....

=====================================================

The disappearance of the Otohime's daughter caused quite a stir in the town, but eventually, even that was forgotten...

1983

A little boy with grey/brown hair sat on the swingset in the park, sniffling. A bunch of mean boys had kicked sand in his face and stolen his toy truck when he'd been playing in the sandpit, and his mama and papa hadn't been there to help him. His attention was drawn to a pair of small girls as they approached him. They couldn't have been much older than him. The younger looking of the pair, who had brown hair much like his own, tilted her head and looked at him.

"Oh my... Why are you crying?" she asked softly. Her voice was gentle, and warm, like a mothers' love, the boy thought. Sniffing and wiping his eyes, he spoke.

"Some bullies stole my toy truck, and kicked sand in my eyes..."

The older girl, who had pale-blonde hair, snorted softly. "It's not the end of the world, you know."

"Eva-chan, that's not nice.." the brown-haired girl rebuked her, before turning back to the little boy. "Where are these bullies?" she asked in a kind, but firm voice.

The boy didn't respond, but he did point to a group of much larger boys who were in the sandpit. The girl frowned.

"Wait here..." she walked off towards the group of boys. The boy and the blonde girl watched as she went over. Neither could hear what she was saying, but the bullies faces went from laughing at her, to frowning, to shaking in fear. She pointed at the leader, and the gang ran away in fear. She picked up the toy truck, and walked back to the boy, who joyously took back his toy truck, then hugged her.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you..." he said gratefully, before recalling himself. He bowed clumsily. "My name's Keitaro Urashima. What's yours?"

"Oh my... My name is Mutsumi Otohime, and this is Evangeline McDowell.." the brown-haired girl said, bowing in reply.

Evangeline looked the boy up and down. "Hmm... Pleased to meet you, I'm sure." she said. She would have said more, but a little elderly lady bustled over.

"Oh, there you are, Keitaro. I've been looking all over for you." she smiled. Who are your friends?"

"Granny!" Keitaro said, hugging her. "This is Mutsumi Otohime, and Evangeline McDowell. Mutsumi, Evangeline, this is my Granny Hina." he introduced. Mutsumi bowed.

"It's very nice to meet you, Mrs. Urashima.." she said.

Granny Hina chuckled. "Oh my, so formal, child. Please, call me Granny Hina; 'Mrs. Urashima' makes me sound so old."

"Now, Keitaro, I need to go do some shopping in town, and I could use your help in carrying it all."

"No problem Granny!" Keitaro said. Mutsumi giggled.

'Oh my, so full of life... and so cute, too!' she thought. "Oh my, could I come along and help as well?" she asked.

Evangeline watched with another snort as Keitaro and Mutsumi skipped after the old woman. "Foolish girl..." she muttered, before stalking out of the park.

=====================================================

That night, Evangeline sat on the roof of one of the old houses near the Hinata Lodge, waiting for her Childer to arrive. When Mutsumi did arrive, the Okinawan vampire was glowing with happiness, as she jumped up onto the roof of the house and ended her illusion spell, returning to her true, 20-year old form.

"About time you showed up." Eva said snippishly, to which Mutsumi blushed slightly. "Where have you been?"

"Oh my, I was following Kei-kun all day. He's such a sweet boy..." Mutsumi replied. "After you left, we went out for ice cream, and we went and played in the sandpit in the park..." Eva was grimacing with each revelation, before suddenly she turned her head, and looked towards the river.

"So..." she said softly. "He's come here..."

"Ara?" Mutsumi asked.

Eva turned and looked at her Childer. "Mutsumi, we have to go our seperate ways now. The Magic World has caught up with me, and he is here."

"But, M-"

"Don't argue, Mutsumi!" Eva snapped, before summoning her cloak of bats and jumping away.

Mutsumi was left all alone on the roof. After a few minutes, she looked up at the Lodge, then nodded to herself. She needed to make a promise with a little boy...

=====================================================

Keitaro Urashima sucked his thumb as he slept, a stuffed Liddo-kun under his arm as he dreamed. After he and Mu-chan had had an ice cream with Granny, and met Keitaro's other friend, Na-chan. She was a sweet, if sickly little girl, younger than him. The three of them had played in the sandpit for a while, before he had heard two grown ups talking about some place called 'Tokyo U', and a story about it.

"When two people who love each other get into Tokyo University together, they live happily ever after..." Mu-chan had explained. What happened next was burned into Keitaro's memory. Mu-chan had kissed him on the cheek and said, "When we grow up let's get into Tokyo University together, okay?"

As Keitaro dreamed, a figure floated in through the window and lightly landed next to the bed. The figure, a gorgeous woman in a green dress looked down on Keitaro through rust-brown eyes. She leaned down very close to him, and paused, listening to his breathing. After a moment, the woman's eyes turned a dark chocolate brown, and she gently kissed Keitaro on the forehead.

"Sleep well, Kei-kun; I promise I'll come back to you, one day..." Mutsumi whispered, before getting up and leaving the way she'd came.

So, you're actually starting it?

Well, keep writing and post a bit more. Short snippets don't reveal much.

Nice, will Mutsumi get bitten? Or will her Hot Spring turtles save her? :) More soon!

You're just in time, I've just now finished up the section where Mutsumi is Embraced, to use the White Wolf term. Next, we go to 1983....

Should that be in its' own section, or part of the bit at the top of this page?

Add it to this section, since it's part of the same chapter right?

Indeed...

So as you know, the Negima! Magister Negi Magi storyline is being wound back to being in the same timeframe as Love Hina. Thus Negi and all the other characters were born 5 years earlier, and so on.

Wish me luck...

Problem, as a half-vampire Mutsumi would age normally, so she wouldn't be a little girl when she came to the Hinata Sou.

On the other hand, if she doesn't age, she is still going to be a little girl when Keitaro is a full grown adult, and Keitaro may be a pervert, but he isn't a pedo, so he wouldn't go after Mutsumi.

I would suggest changing when Mutsumi gets changed quite a bit, because her being a vampire as a little girl means that Keitaro would consider her off limits, no matter how old mentally.

I haven't written it yet, but Mutsumi's current chibi-ness is a ruse, much like Evangelines' adult form is a ruse.

I figured you'd go with somethign like that. So the Sex goddess form is her true form (and what a form it is!) and the chibi is her illusion.

Now all we need is Chachazero's Tama counterpart. Evil Tama-chan would of course act nice to everyone but Motoko, whom everyone knows is scared of turtles, so no one belives her story about the demon turtle of hinata sou.

Great, now I have the mental image of a chacha zero styled plushy in Shinobu's hands.

What about Su? Even a tricky Tama wouldn't put up with constant attempts to cook it.

Thats probably true, though, considering the way that Tama has a way of screwing with people (IE wearing the tracking device while following Naru), Tama being evil isn't that hard to believe.

Though, Tama seems to have some attachment to Keitaro, so I imagine that in this fic, Tama was supposed to either watch over Keitaro, or something like that.

So know I understand how she is a kid.... however, that makes the promise a wee bit creepy.

Not necessarily as creepy as you might think. If she's young enough, she might just be looked at as having an idolizer complex where it comes to Keitaro. "Gee, I wanna grow up like you" type of thing. Kids make promises without thinking about them from multiple angles, so the promise may be simply seen by her as a way to be close to her friend.

Other Kids just are lonely and follow people around for the attention. I have a kid in my neighborhood that does that to me simply because I was nice to him. It's sad how kids these days can be so 'connected' via the internet yet attention starved at the same time.

How'd you like that? It's all I'm able to write for the forseeable future, as I don't have my LH Manga or anime available.

If you don't have one already (and if you have something better than a 56k connection), you should get a boxtorrents account. It's free, and they have a lot of anime, manga, and osts for download on bittorrent.

Here is the Love Hina manga.

As for the story itself...Gong likey! I'd post smexy Mutsumi pics as inspiration, but I lost them all in a hard drive failure. Alas.

Onward, good sir!

1998

Fifteen years had passed since the day that Keitaro Urashima made a promise. The years had, for the most part, been kind to him. He had grown up to be a fairly good-looking, if shy young man, with a big heart and kind soul. Certainly, he'd had his hardships; the big square glasses that perched on his nose told of how he'd just about ruined his eyes with all-night study sessions, and the slightly scuffed nature of his clothes indicated that he'd lost some of his grace over the passing of years; nonetheless, Keitaro Urashima was more or less at peace with himself, and generally happy with his lot in life. The only blot on his horizons was this:

He'd failed, twice now, to enter Tokyo University, and meet his 'Promise Girl'.

======================================================

Tugging at his satchel so it rested more comfortably on his shoulder, Keitaro walked the cobbled streets of Hinata City, trying to remember where his Granny Hina lived. All around him were old open-fronted shops, survivors all of the Second World War. It was a curious thing, but like Kyoto and Nara, Hinata City had survived the American bombing raids almost intact. Some parts even dated back to before the Meiji era.

Sitting down on a bench over looking the river, Keitaro pulled a sketchbook and a pencil from his satchel and began to doodle. As was often the case, the pencil drew out one of his memories: The day his promise girl had left. He'd sketched it dozens of times over the years, but one thing still constantly eluded him. Try as he might, he could never remember her face. All he could recall was that she had big brown eyes, that seemed to look deep into you.

Sighing, he was about to put his things away, when his attention was drawn to his left. A pretty little bluenette girl was sitting on the bench on the other side of the bridge, looking like all the worries in the world were weighing down her shoulders.

'Wow.. She looks so sad...' he thought, as his hands began to sketch on a fresh page. After a few moments, he'd drawn a quick pencil sketch of the sad girl, only she was smiling, her features radiating happiness and joy. Keitaro's mind wandered as he drew, imagining the girl coming over and cheering up at seeing her sketches happy smile. When his attention returned to the here and now, he suddenly noticed three old men standing around him looking at his sketch. One of them snagged the sketchbook out of his hand and said, "Very interesting..." Then the three old men tossed the notebook to each other, keeping it out of Keitaro's reach. After a moment, the book spun out of the reach of all four of them, and skittered over to the bluenette's feet, opening up at the sketch of her.

The girl stared, then looked distraught. "That's me... But why?" she asked, turning to face Keitaro. "It's not funny..." Keitaro paniced slightly and babbled that his hand was the one at fault, before turning and high-tailing it away. The girl picked up his discarded notebook and looked at the sketch of herself. She had to admit, it was a very well-drawn sketch, and she couldn't help but smile...

Keitaro ran at high-speed, dodging through crowds as he went. He felt unutterably embarrassed. He'd realised that he'd dropped his notebook, but he didn't dare return to get it, not after having made a fool of himself. Unfortunately for Keitaro, he was about to be made an even bigger fool, as he mis-stepped on a mossy patch of cobblestones, slipped, and was propelled headlong into a pile of rubbish. Thankfully for him, it was only old newspapers. Hauling himself up out of the piles, with several crumpled copies of the local newspaper on his head, Keitaro sighed. "Well, I suppose at least things can't get any worse..."

Unseen by him, as he struggled to free himself, a shadowed area of the alleyway darkened to an inky-black, as a stunning female figure emerged. She saw him struggle, and came over to help him. The instant their hands touched, a pulse of energy seemed to pass between them, and they both gasped. The woman stared at him in shock, and the faintest trace of hope in her eyes.

"Kei.... Kei-kun?"

Keitaro blinked. He was certain that he knew this woman from somewhere before. Maybe... Maybe she was his 'Promise Girl'! He gulped and clambered to his feet.

The woman seemed uncertain about something, and spoke. "Don't... Don't you remember, Kei-kun?" A child's voice began to speak in his mind, in a happy sing-song voice.

"Did you know that if two people who love each other go to Tokyo University together..."

"They'll live happily ever after..." he echoed, as the memories flooded back. The sandpit, the bullies who took his toy truck, and the two little girls who had been his friends. He looked up, a strange look in his eyes.

"M.... Mu-chan?"

"Kei-kun!" Mutsumi Otohime cried, as the two of them hugged joyfully, finally reunited after fifteen years. Keitaro's cheeks glistened with tears of happiness as he felt the warmth and gentle presence of Mutsumi wash over him.

======================================================

The two young adults walked arm in arm through the alleyways until they reached the road. It wasn't long after that before they arrived at the Hinata Teahouse, and met someone familiar.

Haruka Urashima looked up from her counter, where she'd been cleaning a cup, and raised her eyebrows in intrigue. "Keitaro? That was fast. Did Mom call your parents before she left?"

This puzzled the bespectacled man, who sat at the table. "Hi Aunt Haruka-"

"Just call me Haruka, Keitaro. I've told you often enough." she interrupted, driving his head into the counter with her elbow with a sigh. Mutsumi frowned at this, and shook her head.

Meantime, Keitaro pulled himself up, and gave Haruka a sheepish grin. "Um, sorry about that, Haruka... What did you mean before, about Granny calling?" The older woman ducked out of sight for a moment, before pulling out a folder.

"Mom wanted me to give you this. She left this morning on a round-the-world tour of Hotsprings." She blinked as Keitaro slumped in his seat. "Trouble at home?"

"Aw, great. Now I'm sunk." Kei said, and began to explain his woes. "Mom and Dad kicked me out the house because I failed the Tokyo U entrance exams again. I thought I might be able to rent a room for a while at Granny's Inn."

Haruka frowned. "I wonder. Did Mom...?"

"Why'd Granny want to give me this, anyway?" he asked. Mutsumi, who was interested as well, leaned in a little closer.

"With Mom overseas, and me up to my neck running this place..." Haruka said to herself, before saying aloud. "Keitaro, Mom wants you to take over for her until she gets back. One thing though. She had it converted to a Dormitory a few years ago. An all-girls dorm."

To say that Keitaro was stunned by this was an understatement. "Then why...?"

"She didn't say. But still, the apartment needs a manager, and Mom wants you to be it." She passed the folder over. "Everything you need to know is in this. If you take it up I'll come up and help you sort out the extra stuff later tonight."

Mutsumi looked at Keitaro, and smiled, her chocolate-brown eyes closing in happiness for her friend as Keitaro pulled out a pen and his hanko. With a stroke of his pen and a stamp of his mark, one chapter of Keitaro Urashima's life closed, and a new one opened...

So, now Keitaro and Mutsumi have met again. So what do you think happens next, everyone?

Will Keitaro still be chased around the sou, only this time with more (or less) embrrassment when Mutsumi sees it?

Will the interruption of Mutsumi give Haruka a chance to intercept and give our favourite ronin the goods on the girls?

awesome... nice story. Fun twists, not to mention he now has a vampiric Mutsuumi to help protect him... (it can also explain the sudden cases of anemia(?) she has).

I have a question, will you go and heve them visit Mahora sometime to you know, visit Eva or something? Or is she free from the curse that was placed on her in MSN. I'd like to see a little Eva action in there too :p She'd probably be interested in a blood farm which can never really run out... I mean Keitaro can live through anything is now the common belief, so I'm betting his blood stores must be pretty large, or replenish majorly fast.

Anyways, great way to set it up, with a lot of open ideas for many things to take place and spread out. The whole relationship with the tenants can easily change now, and since this is a crossover, Keitaro should have something special about him... right? :p

anyways, hope to see the next update sometime soon

Yup. Since Mutsumi was Embraced by a High Daylight Walking vampire, in other words Evangeline, and has spent the better part of 300 years under her tutelage, the whole sunlight problem renders her sleepy and clumsy, rather than a pile of dust.

Yes, but it will be later on.

We'll see, won't we?
