Honestly... I was too busy with stuff, so, sorry for not being here.

...

Anyway, I went nuts and bought the two first editions of the Love Hina mangß (which here go up to the part where Motoko's sick). Maybe it'll help me out with my mangß, maybe not.

Anyway, what do you guys think of the mangß, overall?

Buying two manga is 'going crazy'? Going crazy is blowing over $400 on anime on a whim, that's 'going crazy', two manga is ony, what? Like $15, maybe $20?

Well here it's like 20 bucks. I mean, even my poor ass could afford that!

$400 on anime on the other hand... different story. That's like at most, 3 series right there, and of course, no job SimmyC certainly can't afford that!

[edit]I noticed no one answered your question so far. :p Well, IMO, I like Love Hina, the antics and so forth are great. But it's obvious that it is going to be a Naru/Keitaro story (duh) that, well, let's just say I'm obviously not a fan of. Still, at first, I had some sympathy towards Naru since, after viewing the anime, Naru isn't THAT bad in the manga. But given all the stupidity that occurs (Naru's short temper for example. The fact that Keitaro and Naru are always 'together' as if 'fate' brought them there), that, well, didn't quite sit well with me. As if being together the most qualifies as love. <_<

Other than that, great manga series.

been there done that.

i guess im crazy but i have bought manga/anime (mostly anime) for 400-500 (meh no dollar sign on my keybord) most of gundam seed, most of last exile, uthena the movie,
love hina ova , end of evangelion, evangelion platinum7 and probably some more.

thats was perhaps a halfyear ago and im fully planning to best that record in a cople of weeks.

as for the love hina manga. its good an certainly one i recommand, the only thing that peeved me a little was that naru took to much screenlight(?) from the other girls "cough*su*cough".

There's this miraculous thing called a shift key on your keyboard, when you press it it will make the letters capitilized, try using it every so often.

Anyway, sorry about that but that really was painful for me to read, but anyways, oh I know that some people have done that sort of thing before (I've been known to drop up to a grand at a single con) but I was just mentioning that that is 'going crazy, not springing for two piddly little manga, that's all.

screenlight(?)
I think the word you're searching for is 'spotlight' or 'screentime' perhaps. English not your first language?

The most I've spent at a time would be around 300 USD, roughly. The reason being that some of the box sets were limited as well as expensive, so I needed to splurge.

S'not that bad Izzy. At least it's understandable, as the words were still easily recognizable.

Anyway, welcome back H-Man.

Yeah. It wasn't too bad on the grammar front. I mean, unlike some very atrocious stories I've read, at least it was somewhat understandable.

The most I've spent in one sitting was $100 for my Eva box set. And I thought that was a pretty big dent to the wallet right there. Again, not having a job and earning money does that to you.

Ehh, bad grammar eats at my soul, it physically, mentally, and spiritually pains me, so I've just got to say something, no offense to anyone that I do say something to, just your friendly neighborhood grammar nazi making his rounds.

Hey, when you never buy anything, and are trying to set a record, buying sorta feels like insane.

But eh, now to figure out how to get 45 bucks for an RPG book.

I hate all you people with money. It took me about a year and a half to get the entire Love Hina manga due to the fact that we only had enough spare money to buy one book every month or so. Granted, we've had less money troubles in the past few months (we're right back in the doghouse now that my dad got fired from his job in Iraq, however), which means I've been able to get my hands on all of the Negima! manga currently out in the United States in a short time, but that wasn't the case a year ago.

Completely unrelated and off-topic fact which I mean to use to hijack this topic: There are two stores which I go to when I'm on the prowl for a new manga, a local book store called Hastings and Fried Ant Anime, THE only anime store in a sixty mile radius that I know of. I've had a number of bad experiences in both - Fried Ant Anime has played musical ownership for a long time now, with a different owner popping up every six months or so. When we first went there, the store was owned by an old lady who'd gotten into anime after her son introduced her to it (I think she said her first anime was Voltron or somethingz), and she and her son were pretty friendly and knowledgeable about anime.

A few months later they disappeared and got replaced by some jackass who didn't know two things about any anime other than Dragonball, he disappeared within a month, another guy owned the place but he was killed in a drive-b while he was eating at an Italian restaurant across the street (local rumor is that the owners of that restaurant and their "associates" who owned another restaurant [both groups members of the Mafia, of course] in another town were fighting over who'd open up a new second restaurant of their franchise in a particular town... my town... the new restaurant up the way has great friggin food, though [another fun fact: the restaurant involved in the drive-by is called Luigi's, and they eventually won the "competition" and opened a second restaurant just up in town from where I live, we don't know for sure what the name of the other restaurant is but there's a place called "Mario's" up in another town nearby...]).

A few more owners came along, including one stereotypical overweight otaku who kept trying to get me into yugioh (which thing I hate) both times were were there when he owned the place, and finally it passed on to two more dudes who I'm pretty sure are both fags, due to the fact that the last time we were there they were too busy beating off to yaoi behind the counter to offer any customer service. We haven't been back there since.

The other place, Hastings, has it's share of problems as well... such as the fact that the manager and 95% of the people who work there are all rabidly anti-Japanese. Buying any manga or anime there means you have to sit through a ten-minute long rant about how you're "unpatriotic" for watching "trash made by those 'Jap' devils" and about how everyone there has a friend or cousin in the FBI who they're gonna call on you for being a terrorist. They have it scripted. I've heard the same bloody tirade each time I go there. They've rearranged the store several times, moving the anime and manga to different locations throughout the store (which pretty damn big... about a quarter the size of a Wal-Mart Supercenter) each time, currently the anime DVDs now reside next to the porn section (and they removed the older anime VHS tapes, including the entire first season of Slayers, entirely), and the manga section now sits between an aisle of Nazi literature and an aisle of white-supremacist literature (which is actually a place of glory for the ownership, apparantly). Several times they've removed both sections entirely before the loss of sales prompted them to put them back in.

Another little tidbit about Hastings (going back before the new, racist ownership came in) is that my mom used to have a bad habit of renting random anime from there, because apparantly if you like one anime you like them all. This resulted in a hit-and-miss thing (the first thing she rented was the mecha anime Martian Successor Nadesico, which rocks and I was grateful for, while the second time she rented something it was the Pokemon anime... I like the games, but the anime can be burned with fire). I finally convinced her to stop after she randomly rented the first thing she picked up off the shelf one day, which turned out to be La Blue Girl...

Anyway, now that my huge, off-topic post is complete, I declare this topic officially hijaacked.

Discuss.

You have really shitty luck in anime/manga stores. However, at least you HAVE stores like that. I don't have any nearby store that has a wider selection then DBZ or Yu-Gi-Oh. The manga isn't too hard to find, since most of the bookstores also keep that in stock, but the prices are horrible.

I order all my anime/manga online. There are several sites that have fairly good prices, and a good selection as well, for anime at least. Manga is a bit pricey if I want to buy too many of them, as I can never seem to find good deals. Best part is, I don't NEED to deal with any crap, if there were any such problems. Downside is that I usually need to wait a week or so for my order to arrive (I swear to god, the shipping companies are run by mental retards).

On a side note, I hate bigot people. ^_^ :p

Now, off to rest, it's not healthy to go to bed when you need to get up in six hours or less...

Hnn, I have a nearby Borders and Walden Books for any of my manga needs as well as having Animenations one and only retail store located near me, but most of my spending is done either a) Online or B) at Cons.

Oh and Moshulel, just what country is it exactly that you live in? Sounds like Lebanon or something, then again if you lived in Lebanon you'de be off fighting in the army and not posting here, assuming you're of age anyway.

I do have a Borders, Walden Books, and a Barnes and Noble within driving distance of me. For anime, I have Frys, Suncoast, Best Buys, and to a lesser extent, Target and Walmart for my anime needs. :p No shortage of places for me to shop in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Of course, online always there for me. But if I don't feel like the need to go through that hassle, I do have the above to look forward to. ^_^

Thank goodness for the abundance of comic connections outlets near my vicinity...

But their selection of manga is still somewhat limited though...which is what kinokuniya is for, if it wasn't so darn far from my home... <_<

For basic needs, Chapters. Pretty decent selection, and a coffee shop in store mean lots of time spent there, even if I have the odd disagreement with some of the staff.

"I can't read a book here? Hey, I'll talk to you when I want a black coffee punk-ass. Off you go..."

For the better selection, 'Comics America' which has a ridiculous amount of things. If you gave me the money I just borrowed for my mortage, I could easily spend it all in there, and still not get everything I wanted.

Comics express in my area fulfils my basic cominc and Manga needs, as well as my toy and action figure fixes(Oh yeah, waiting for my new CST Enterprise from AA) and there's a Border's and B&N close to my home as well. A Suncoast is where I get my videos, as well as the local Wal-Mart, where I've been getting all my AMG! videos for the last year.

Lebanon? Neah, just a country with 4 hackers at every 100 people. Almost all those who have a computer and shabby connection to the net used it for hacking, now it's a little better but before our crazy boys where hacking at the Pentagon and NASA (Big mayhem when a hacker cracked Nasa's server with an ancient PC)

Anyway the lack of manga around here might be caused by the fact that our community of obsesed anime fans is still small (not having anime on TV does that to you ) but lately it began growing. Only manga i spotted for buying> Little girlie manga. Things are looking good however as Anime invaded the Tv chanells. Now we have to wait for manga hmmmmm.

Wow.

I now feel almost slightly potentially ashamed of myself.

You see, though Manga does cost like $12-$15 up here in Canada... I don't buy a lot of them due to two main reasons. 1) Cost. I am poor. I eat most of my money via fast food and hanging with friends >_<. 2) Horrible translations. In perfect example, Naruto: Art of the Doppelganger!

I R Pwned >_<

So I do the cheap and piratey alternative. Scanlations! Cause its much cheaper to pay electricity bills then buy hoards of books a month.

So I am the slightly proud owner of XXGB manga. Where XX represents a fair midsized double digit amount.

Though I do own like $2000 of just manga, I download a heck of a lot more =D

Hnn, I generally only read scanlations if I can't get in here in the States (or if the american version is shit, like with Naruto). My manga collection is modest at best, I prefer anime more, it's more expensive of course but, meh, I don't really care. I've got a bookcase and a half filled with anime boxsets and single DVDs, each bookcase is roughly a little shorter than I am (I'm 5'9"), so it's a rather substantial amount, guestimating I'd say it's about 4 grand worth. In comparison I only have about one bookcase full of manga that's about half the size of the first ones. It's so great not to have to worry about money very much isn't it? ^_^ ;) :p
