Harry Potter Here's an unusual spin on a xover...

I've seen fics where Harry gets the power of a Planeswalker. That got me thinking...

What if instead, Harry specialized in artifice, and started building and/or summoning monstrosities like the Phyrexians?

Essentially this is a 'Harry is a Yawgmoth-in-making' fic. It might go various directions, including Evil!Harry, where it might well end with Voldemort sort of being the GOOD guy, if Harry went off the deep end like the ancient Thran lord did and tries to mechanize the entire universe.

Or Harry might turn out more like Mishra - fundamentally good, but extremely ruthless when it comes to achieving the needed goal.

Just a strange thought...

I just had an Image of Harry summoning a Phyrexian Dreadnought in the middle of a group of Death Eaters

That was almost the same image I had. :snigger: Except in my image, Harry started summoning three or four of these bad boys in rapid succession:

Needless to say, things started going really sour for the Death Eaters after even the first, let alone the second... and third... and fourth... :snigger:

First, I just wanna say I love the quote on that card. Should suggest it in that Challenge Game thread and see what someone can come up with.

Anyways, I'm still getting my feet wet in MtG mythology/history (I have a copy of the Thran, but have yet to get past the first 10 pages. I'm gettin old, a book like that used to take just a couple hours to read :blue: )

Interesting idea, Harry pathing his path to dominance through constructing artifacts and whatnot, rather than the godly powers of being a Planeswalker (you mentioned fics, any links? Only one I've ever found is 'Artifical Truth' by YamiPaladinofChaos.) Where would he get this skill, and the materials to build his devious dervishes? Would he have wound up taking Ancient Runes and Arithmancy and taken them down unexplored paths?

And I like both the idea of Evil!Harry and Ruthless!Harry; so I'm not gonna be any help deciding which route to take our boy down.

Harry certainly wouldn't have to look far for his first minions. Both Arthur and the twins would probably be willing to swear eternal loyalty to him in return to being allowed to 'play' with some of the stuff in MtG.

Now, I extremely dislike Ron and Hermione myself (truth be told I don't really care for any of the characters in the books, they're all just so stupid it makes my head hurt. And yet I keep reading each book...) but I can imagine that Hermione would be a huge asset if Harry could twist her to his side (ie ween her of her dependence on those in authority, or somehow get her to view him as being THE authority, nevermind those lesser mortals)

He could use the Room of Requirement (yay, dues ex machina for the win!) for experimental devices and do the actual construction and storage in the Chamber of Secrets (after suitable renovation and security measures get enacted. Considering how everyone seems to have forgotten the place exists hopefully no one would check and find that it's suddenly way more secure and in use) I can even see how Harry might descend from (un)common school boy to world domination. He starts as a means to beat Voldemort and the Death Eaters, believing that he'll never be able to overcome the magical head start Voldie and his Inner Circle have. Then during the process of the war and/or after the Ministry can do what it does best, and be a pain in the ass and bungle things up completely. So Harry turns his toys on the Ministry, with the intention of cleaning up the corruption and incompitence that so riddle the place. And, well, after the balls gets rolling he just doesn't stop.

Nice idea. I like, a lot. Unfortunately, I only read a couple HP books, and I'm NOT going to use the movies as reference, as I suspect they horribly raped the actual events to fit them in 2 hours...

If I ever wrote such a fic, I'd have to find a co-writer, so that each of us takes care of one half of the whole - I'd handle MtG, and they'd handle HP.

The first two movies were fairly close, after that they got to work with the chainsaws and hacking away of 'unneccessary' bits and pieces, and shoved other stuff in here and there to smooth the plot out. I hate it when books get converted to movies, even when they do ( a supposedly) good job. Still haven't seen the LoTR movies, since I've read damn near everything Tolkien ever wrote by the time I was 10 (missed some of his Missing Tales books, but I'll live) So going to see the movies is not high on my list of things to do.

Comin back from rantland...If I had any writing skills I'd offer to help you out. As it is I'm merely usefull for moral support (heh) and the occasional spitting out of ideas. Good luck findin a co-writer if you decide to make this idea yours.

(Gah...I hate hate hate laptop keyboards. Stupid shift key never seems to wanna work...)
