Ok, there are dozens of fics were Harry is sent to another dimension to train in a different style of magic...

What if it was Hermione who was sent to another dimension?

Especially if it was the dimension labeled "Slayers"...Hermione as the student of Lina Inverse (or for a laugh, Naga the White Serpent)

How does Hogwart's react to this new and improved version of Hermione?

How do the Pureblood wizards and DE's act to these overly destructive acts of magic.

I got this idea after reading a fanfic which said that Slayers style of magic improves with the amount of knowledge you have about the spell. The author used the example of Lina's control and use of the Fireball spell compared to other sorcerers.

Hmm, I'm sort of ambivalent about the idea. On one hand, it'd be nice to see someone other then Harry get an... interesting change. However, on the other hand...

Any battle oriented magic system > Harry Potter magic.

Hell, almost ANY other magical system > HP magic.

S'why I'm not usually a fan of fanfics that mix different fandom magic systems. Since they try to make HP magic less underpowered... and usually fail horribly.

Hawk'll take care of it when he gets on, likely. ^_^;;

Actually, the knowledge part is completely canon. However, there's a point where your understanding of the spell won't improve it anymore, it is called 'perfected.' Once you reach that point, it requires increasing your own magical strength in order to improve it. The best increasing your knowledge would do, is allow you to possibly improve your control of the spell.

Most of Lina's spells are perfected, so they are as powerful as Lina can make them at present.

Unless Hermione uses a magic amplifier, there's no way she could destroy England, or even half of it. Heck, she'd probably be doing good to take out Hogwarts in one attack.

I wonder if the idea of perfected spells can transfer over to HP style of magic.

Another thing to think about is the fact of where most "Slayers" spells originate from. Since the HP universe doesn't have the connections that the Slayers universe depends upon for magic, most of the higher level spells probably won't work.

Well.. let's d some thread necromancy....

Hmmm... but if you are thinking of a Slayers-HP cross, you'd have to make the HP world one of the other two worlds (Chaotic blue's or death Fog's) or something alike, so even if most of the usual forces to get the spell done aren't there, there should be equivalents...

Now regarding the powerlevel of HP magic, it is true it is very weak (as combat orientedness goes) but at the same time it needs little effort from the caster, it could even be said it is part of their nature. (so it should even out)

I am of the opinion that while any style of magic that revolves around fighting can overpower magic form the HPverse, HP magic seems more... efficient.

Tossing Dragon Slaves all over the place for an hour or two, or useing the spell Wish from D&D, or useing some other high end magic from a system largely based around fighting takes huge effort on the part of the caster. Hp magic has LOTS of small stuff like household charms and the like. Most of it is rather practical with the exception of a few spells like the AK or patronus. That is what gives HP magic strength. You could cast most of it's spells all day and not have anything neer the drain that one Dragon Slave would cause, even if the caster isn't the most magicly inclined.

My evedence being that the stuff they learn in the first book is either practical or requires a great deal of control. I.E. the unlocking charm and the machstick to needle respectivly.
