Ranma ½ I'm looking for people's opinions

I recently started writing a thread on the addventure, starting with this episode.

I had a decent enough idea of where I was going to take it. However Kestral has started writing a parallel thread, which I had thought wasn't going to be all that similar until he wrote this episode.

It is very annoying. I know I have no right to be annoyed with similar ideas on an addventure. However, I know that I cannot compete with Kestral in terms of writing speed or ability. I write slow. Not to mention I've been busy lately. Now I don't know whether I should even bother with continuing my thread at all. It won't be all that different, and Kestral will write faster than me. I simply can't churn out episode after episode like he can.

This is the first time I seriously attempted to write on the anime addventure, and being cut off like this is very discouraging. I also worry that Kestral did it on purpose because one of my comments on an earlier episode sounded rude, even though surprisingly enough, in this case I had not meant it that way. (I say surprisingly enough, because often I am intentionally rude, yet in this case what I wrote could be interpreted multiple ways and I had not intended it to be rude.)

So my question is ultimately: should I continue to write my own thread, even with a competing extremely similar thread?

I've read part of that storyline, but cannot recall when I stopped. I know I'm not currently tracking it.

In any case, I think the real issue is 'why you are writing it'. It should not bring bad thoughts, or a mere sense of competition, but more writing to get a story or idea or message out there... you obviously felt you had something to tell.

Additionally... He has not written in that thread in a month, and only one episode at that... and you have 5 episodes after his and 2 before his. At this point, you should continue until you are out of ideas for it.

He wrote another episode today. Also I was pointing out that he was writing a separate nearly identical thread. He isn't writing in my thread. It's linked in my first post.

Make a divergence from him, if possible.

It is rather annoying - he produces an incredible amount but the quality is incredibly poor. He uses the same damn descriptions and characteristics over and over and over again.

If you've read the threads in question, you'd realize that he's preempting the main idea I had as the basis of my thread. I don't even know how to differentiate it in this scenario.

There are minor differences. I am not using Sailor Moon, which I feel has become way too common on the AA. I am also setting this in a mostly normal Earth, while his is the Pluto's Plague post-apocalyptic. Unfortunately, he seems to have forgotten that. They're launching space shuttles still with around 49% of the Earth's population dead? Unlikely. Ultimately these are minor differences, and the one possibly major difference, the Greek Gods' presence, I didn't want to make critical to the story.

My opinion is that you really should continue on with your thread.

It's interesting and not to mention is a continuation fic rather than a big AU fic.

Tell me about it. What's worse is all the people out there that use his writing as their benchmark, if not outright copying his style.

Heh, in my story, to my horror I found myself writing Michiru using the word "elegant". I actually went back to try to erase any Kestral/Kender (I really can't tell the difference between the two of them) influences.

The thing is, I think they would produce good stuff if they just slowed down their output.

I've said this before, but I don't think Kestral (metroanime) cares anymore. He was a much better writer a long time ago, but that was a long time ago.

As for Kender, his writing style is just bland and dull. Flavorless.

I confess no interest in about 95-98% of what Kender and Kestral put out.

On the other hand, your thread was quite well written. I'd say continue.

I was taking my time with it. Honestly I got stuck on what to do on the next episode. I had two conflicting ideas on how to do the next episode. Not conflicting directions in where to take the story like is typical for me, just how I would present the information.

Then I had three midterms in two weeks. Which really put me on the defensive.

Personally I like much of Kestral's work. However, I do believe his recent work is not at the same quality level as his old work.

I think I will continue my thread. Though with the trouble I'm having pushing through the next episode I may just post the mangled triple modified mess here and get help sorting out what I want to happen, and what is happening. It is amusing to me, but doesn't convey as much information as I'd like. I made the goal of not info-dumping, but... failed on actually conveying events.

Shrugs...

I'm of mixed opinions on the stuff I've read. Some I've quite liked, some I don't bother with at all.

Of what is current, 'Setsuna's Fault-Wonder About Zero' is the one I've been keeping closest watch on.
