Karate Kid Remake

Well the kid looks like he worked hard to get those moves down, and I like Jackie-chan films. Still, I'm currently undecided on my willingness to shell out five bucks to see this flick.

As long as it has 'You're the Best Around' it might be worth watching.

Also, 5 bucks? Seriously? Is Canada that cheap? Tickets here go for like 10 dollars now.

My only gripe with this film is the fact it's called "Karate Kid"

It should be Kung Fu Kid!!

Well, from the looks of the trailer, Chan's got the Miyagi "style" down..Liked the jacket bit; reminds me of the "wax on, wax off" scene...But NO ONE can replace Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi.

I *LIVE* in Florida. I know where all the tourist traps are and where they hide all the deals. For instance, the theater by my house (25 minute walk at a brisk pace) shows movies for $5 on Sunday. The Film megacomplex (30 min drive at safe speeds) shows 3-D films for $10 on Sunday.

I've been there enough to know that as well.

And hell, most of the less flashy tourist destinations are relatively reasonable as well.

If you want insane, look at prices of normal things in Chicago.

Hell, 10 bucks? I shell out $4.50 so long as I go earlier than a certain time. Even after that it's usually $5.50. The crap kind of high class theater are you guys going to?

The $10 was for 3D showings, most places I've seen in Ohio have it more than $10 without specific deals, $5 for normal is a decent deal as well.

We used to have a $1 theater nearby for showing movies that had been out for a month or so. There is also a $2 one that is still open

The kind of theaters that DON'T have sticky floors, questionable food and drinks, and show movies that were out months ago.

No, seriously. In Calgary - which happens to be in Canada, last I know - adult tickets to movies usually cost about $12 Canadian, which not counting food and drink, is the standard fare for watching a movie in what I would classify as a decent theater. A bit more and it would be watching in IMAX.

The only place I know of that is cheap is a shady theater next to a Chinese mall that only shows movies that were out months ago. You'd have to pay me if you want me to even entertain the thought of doing that.

It's a reason why I don't go out to see movies all that often. It simply cost too damn much here.

While I can't vouch for the quality of the floors, most of the movies I go to see there are more or less new releases.

Not sure what would qualify as questionable food or drink either, but frankly it's better there than other places I could go to... >>

The theater near me costs... Huh. You know, it's been so long since I actually paid, I can't even remember. Why don't you guys just sneak in?

As far as the movie goes: Remake = Awful. That is the world's one, and only truth.

Doesn't it feel somewhat questionable that a grown up man beats up a little kid, in the trailor?

On one hand, its Jackie Chan. That's cool.

On the other hand, its a black kid in China to learn Kung Fu/Gung Fu/whatever of what Hollywood apparently calls as a remake of the Karate Kid movie by calling it 'The Karate Kid'.

While there's plenty in my mind to complain, but my questions and thoughts revolve into two simple things:

1: Are they stupid?

2: What the hell did they drink and why aren't they sharing?

2. They are too selfish

not really considering that he was saving the MC from being beaten to a blood pulp. and given that we saw all of 4 seconds of that who knows what happens after words

Because we are not criminals.
Ever downloaded music illegally? Hell, ever listend to a song/watched a music video on YouTube that wasn't put there by the record company? Sneaking into a movie theater is no different.

Also, you're a member of TFF, so I find your assertion rather suspect.

Illegal downloads are different to trespass.

Ah, forgot to comment on the trailer itself.

I am certainly not fond of remakes. It really feels like the only thing people can do nowadays is remake an older idea. Seriously, what ever happened to that thing called 'originality'?

That aside, I never actually watched The Karate Kid. I know what it's about and how the general premise of the movie goes, and that Mr. Miyagi is an icon because of it, but otherwise, I don't have any expectations about this.

But I will say, I do like Jackie Chan and it's wonderful to see him in this role. The other day, I saw the trailer for The Spy Next Door and I wondered just how he could sink to that level. At the very least, this role at least restores some credibility to his name. It, at the very least, looks a hell of a lot better than that other movie.

Trespass is an unlawful intrusion that interferes with one's person or property. Sneaking in is theft, not trespass, same as illegal downloads.

The person or property in this instance involves people paying to watch movies.

Plus there are safety issues to be addressed.

Say there's a fire, and they know that there are currently 200 customers and 30 staff inside. Additional people being in there is going to throw off their count, potentially leading people to think that the building is empty when it is not.

Technically, it's both trespassing and theft. There are signs at the local theater that mention that.
