The beginning of the manga was in late 1998, and Keitaro was 19 at the time. I'm not sure about the anime.

I say go with the "distant descendant" option, since it's simpler and with less chances of plotholes than trying to find a Heavenly King to take the place of one or both of Keitaro's parents.
Well, the way I was thinking of doing it was to simply have Keitaro be an Urashima on his mother's side, whereas the father was actually Goenitz, and not woever it is supposed to be in the series.

The fact you NEVER EVER see Keitaro's parents in the manga helps. I can simply set it up so that he was the unexpected result of a fling his mother had with Goenitz before marriage, and despite not being his own child, his current father loved him no less. *shrug* There'd be no plotholes this way.

As for why Goenitz would have a child from a human, there IS a good reason - to ensure he had a backup plan in case something happened to Chris or himself when waking Orochi up. But he died before he could do anything about Keitaro, so he never had any contact with him.

How's this?

Has my vote and it would certainly explain why Keitaro would enter the riot-of-blood so easily.

To be fair, Keitaro doesn't enter the Riot easily. It takes a lot of stress for him to snap.

Like being attacked by several girls with various death dealing instruments while being called names. :unsure!: :huh.:

It'd probably be AU if it's Keitaro's mom that's the Urashima part of the family... wait, I'm being stupid, Orochi Keitaro probably makes it AU enough already! *smacks self*

Go for it... just get this written, and quickly.

Um, I'm fairly sure it's Keitaro's mom that's the Urashima. She's Haruka's sister, isn't she? So that'd make her the Urashima, and her husband the one from outside the family...

I'm not quite sure. I mean, a lot of people assume it was the father that is the Urashima. After all, they do share the last name.

However, unlike the states where almost universally, the woman takes up the man's family name, Japan could go both ways (Gendo Ikari for example). So...

That's true... however, I remember hearing somewhere that, in the anime, Keitaro's dad refers to Haruka as his sister. I don't know, as all I've seen of the anime is fansubs of the first three episodes.

I've both seen the anime and read the manga, though memory of the anime is fuzzy at best. I do not recall at all Keitaro's father even hinting that he's related to Haruka.

Even if he did say something in the anime, I go strictly by the manga, since the anime is infested by filler crap (yes, even LH suffers from that), whose value as far as canon goes is less than zero.

So I think I can easily have Keitaro's mom be the Urashima, and his dad be the one who married in the family.

Oh, and I'm slowly getting it done. I have a nasty headache today, so I'm not at my best.

Ah, I stand corrected. I read through the manga again, and while you're wrong about Keitaro's parents never appearing at all in the manga (they make short cameos during Kanako's flashback sequence in volume 11 - the back of a woman [Keitaro's mom?]'s head can be seen in one scene, as well as two silhouettes [likely both parents] in another scene), they sure don't mention anything along the lines of who's related to who. Therefore, either parent can be the Urashima of the family. And with Akamatsu's penchant for different characters to have sisters show up at odd times (Tsuruko, Amalla, Kanako, etc.), I guess it would make a certain level of sense if Haruka's sister is Keitaro's mom.

So, onward and get this done already damnit \o
