Lucifer on Fox has been a surprisingly fun show. It's gleeful in it's irreverence and has proved pretty entertaining.

Based on the [very mature] DC/Vertigo comic of the same name, but only loosely adapted into a crime of the week show with a horror/supernatural twist to it. It's only three episodes deep so far, and I'm interested to see where it goes.

Tom Ellis carries the show pretty well as the title character. He's actually funnier and more charming than the rather cold and distant comic version. Lucifer in the comics is considerably less 'fun' than this version and more businesslike and calculating in his interactions. He's also less brutal here, but that's kind of a necessity for broadcast TV.

He also puts up with a lot from both the human detective Chloe [Lauren German] he takes an interest in and his inhuman sidekick Mazikeen. Mazikeen in particular is a bit less respectful and more human looking than her comic incarnation. She wears a silver mask that covers half her face in the comic, don't know why they didn't bother with that, it wouldn't have been difficult and the actress still would have been easily recognizable wearing it as covers only the left half of her face.

All in all it's a poor adaption of the comic, but still works as a television show. Kind of like the Constantine movie, which ironically is a character that appears in the Lucifer comic. It's a pretty good bet that if the rights are available we'll be getting a cameo appearance from him if the show lasts.

Anyway, it's worth a look, and it has a good chance for shit to go sideways pretty soon once Chloe figures out just who she's dealing with. He's not even trying to hide it from her or anyone else really.

I dunno that I'd call Lucifer a comedy.

I mean, he's an amusing character in the show [and decidedly not in the comics] and gets some good lines, but it's really not a comedy.

It's more of a horror/drama with a twisted sense of humor sprinkled in. It's about as much a comedy as a lot of the MCU movies are, they also have comedic one liners and tongue in cheek character humor, but they aren't really comedy movies either.

It is rather comedic to see how he interacts with the daughter, Trixie. He's truly repulsed by children, so obviously this one loves him.
