Missing Posts

#1
I saw a request by one of the Admins for the reporting of missing (Blank) posts in the Ranma Time Loops thread.

Well after reading through most of the time loop threads I have noticed two things:

One, missing posts a CHRONIC, I wouldn't be surprised if something like half of all posts in those threads are missing.

Two for some reason whatever process removed these posts it really liked Innortal, I don't think I've seen a single one of his loop stories in any of those threads

It happens to any post with non standard characters and Innortal presumably used a lot of them in his posts.

When Shirotsume scrapped OTFF, the script he used didn't copy non standard characters properly. Stuff like: “ ” ‘ ’ —

" ' and - were find but the squinty or fancy versions used by Word didn't copy right.

Originally, they'd show up in posts like this
(but smaller and without the hotlink tag). At some point, posts with the black diamond stopped showing up at all.

I'd like it fixed myself, but when I requested it or voted for it, everyone else was like "Oh just ask the poster to fix their post". Most of them aren't even active anymore.

What am I supposed to do about them? Hit the report button? The reason I ask is that I'm probably going to go through the entire Ranma Loops thread soon

Unless the thread's locked, you can quote the empty post and read it from there. You'll still have to put up with that annoying symbol, though.

That annoying symbol made me drop reading several pieces from sheer aggravation, it is a shame really that it seems no one is interested in working out a solution, when I tried searching for one in the forum I basically came across this thread.
As you said, many of the authors aren't active any more, I tried PM'ing a few without luck, so if it is going to be fixed it needs to be from the Admin/Moderator side of things.
I miss the TFF Archive, it really should have been left running, taking into consideration how much got messed up in the transfer, a slightly time consuming solution could have been to copy paste from the archive's posts to this site.
I also tried writing to the guy that managed the archive, to ask if he would be willing to start it up again, but never got an answer.
Sigh...

Honestly, I think the best way to do this would be to take TFF and split it up- there's roughly 130 different subforums and forums. If we could get some volunteers to just start at the first thread in a forum, skim forward, and slowly but surely make their way through, we could fairly quickly compile a list of specific posts with problems for each forum.

Many forums will go VERY quickly. Some, like the Naruto section, are going to need to be split up more, say one person volunteers to take pages 1-40 of naruto previews.

Once we have a list with links to every post that's missing stuff- and only the posts that are missing stuff, THEN we can start looking at fixing them- otherwise we just keep on going through the same shit over and over again.

And once we have the list it won't take long to fix.

Say we concentrate mostly on Previews subsections (which makes sense to me, other things can be spot fixed as we find them, but being able to say 'everything in previews is fixed' is going to be 98% of the issues solved.)

There's about 24 Previews Sections, plus about 80k posts in lemon that are unsorted and we should probably all check. That adds up to roughly 285,291 posts that need to be checked, with 82k being lemon and 105k being Naruto Previews.

let's say we have only 20 volunteers, that's about 14,264 posts for each person to check, or about 475 pages.

Each page probably is gonna take like 5 seconds to check- you don't need to read it, just check for blank posts or posts with the block in them. 5 seconds is probably way too high, but that puts it at about 39 minutes of checking for each person. Hell, do it over a week or something, anyone can check some posts for 5min a day.

And all that's just with only 20 people. We have SO many damn people, a lot of which would be interested. Each person that volunteers makes it either go faster or lessens the load for everyone.

EDIT: on average, TFF has 61 posts per topic, 30 topics per page, so 8 pages of topics per person.

EDIT2: I'll take Bleach Previews, Book Previews, and Cartoon Previews.
