Akamatsuverse Mizuho Fujisawa?

This has actually been something that's plagued me for some time, but when working in some of my fics the other day, I thought about it again, and now I need to ask/inquire more about it. Refer to the image below, the girl to the right of Naru.

From what I know, the girl is Mizuho Fujisawa, a character that only appears in the Sega Dreamcast game, Love Hina: Smile Again. And especially from what little I've been able to pick up, she's apparently Keitaro's REAL promise girl. Somehow, there was a third girl, according to the game, at least, and she was the one Keitaro made his promise with.

So thus, it leads me here.

First off, is there any more detailed information regarding her? Anything - character traits, personality...stuff like that. Looking around, the best I've got is that she's a type of funny weird, but that could mean anything, really. I was trying to see if there's a way I could integrate her into fanfiction, but I can't do that all too well if I don't know a thing about her.

Next question is only minor, but does anybody know if there's a translation of the game availible, or will I actually have to learn Japanese in the near future? The game looks quite a bit interesting, but so far it seems like it's only availible in Japanese. It's a pity, really.

from what I've hunted down on the world wide waste of time...

Fujisawa Mizuho is a new character created only for the two Dreamcast Love Hina Games.

The order of the games were:
* Love Hina: Totsuzen no Engeji Happening (Suddent Engagement Happening)
* Love Hina: Smile Again.

The first one is located well before Kei, Mutsumi and Naru finally get into Toudai; here Gramma Hina notices Kei's not so great (read as dysmal) grades in the mock tests and decides to send Tutor. Her raison d'etre into the Hina-Girl harem club? if Kei again fails his entrance exam (for the fourth time), Mizuho (his new cute, kind, respectable and responsable Toudai student-tutor) will take full responsability of his failure and marry poor Kei-kun.

She is a Toudai Student in her second year, although she is going through a rough time this past semester, luckily falling into the happenstance that good old Granny Hina has a soft spot for girls with issues. Her real reason for being so worried about Kei's success/failure at getting into Toudai is <spoiler>SHE IS THE REAL PROMISE GIRL (seems like the real promise girl DID keep her end of the promise)</spoiler>. Although all the rest of the Hina Girls still mixed in the whole convoluted situation (many zany antics pre and procede from moment one); and yes being these the Date-Sims games they are, at the end of the games you can eventually marry any of the girls.

Smile Again is a quasi continuation to TnEH; here it's more like the GBA game where you just get to hang out with the girls and get nifty original drawings (supposedly by Akamatsu).

More series ought to have Mana Kirishimas. It's fun.

If I were a good writer, I'd construct a story. Keitaro, alone, unexpectedly meets this girl. They instantly mesh, and Keitaro decides to keep his romance-life fully separate from his life at the dorms. But, eventually, though the possibility of him actually dating doesn't cross any of their minds, the girls begin to notice that Keitaro has become increasingly distant. Simultaneously, a story about falling in love and a story about inevitable emotional loss as Keitaro spends more and more time with Mizuho and less time at the dorms.

Of course, some people like Motoko could easily tail him, but perhaps Keitaro could make an impassioned speech, begging her to keep the existence of Mizuho a secret. Something like "Please, don't tell the others. When I'm with Mizuho, I feel like I don't have to worry about anything. If they know about her, then everything will get complicated, and that'll end. So please..."

Note to self: stop watching so many dramas. Or maybe start watching more dramas. I dunno.

And here all I could think of was Mizuho Kazami and Keitaro...

------------------
The kendoka makes a run at the couple as they approach the door to the inn. "Urashima how dare you defile such a proud looking woman!"

Startled, Mizuho reacts instinctually. "Marie, dimensional bridge to Tanner's Pass in America!"

In an instant the kendoka disappears in a flash of light as she passes the door frame, much to the shock of all assembled. Except Keitaro and Mizuho, of course.

Casually walking up the stairs behind the couple were Seta and Haruka. "Tanner's Pass?" Seta inquired thoughtfully, with a dawning light crossing his face a moment later. "Isn't that the place of that all-male nudist colony we ran across Haruka?"

Haruka, lost in what looked like a personal nightmare, shuddered violently.

Keitaro was positive that he didn't want to know HOW his girlfriend knew of that place...

Funny, considering I keep thinking her parents must be Mizuho Kazumi from PLease/Onegai Teacher and Professer Masumichi Fujisawa from El Hazard.

Hopefully, she does not drink like her namesake.

Hopefully she DOES, and she pounces Keitaro like Kitsune should have done eons ago. ;)

Doesn't this break canon? I was under the impression that Naru was the one he made the promise with originally, and then renewed the promise with both Mutsumi and Naru. As seen when they dig up the time-capsule and find the note where they made the promise, which had Naru's and Keitaro's name under an umbrella with Mutsumi's added on a corner.

First of all, if you have read the thread, this character came from the game for Love Hina for the Sega Dreamcast. If you only take the manga as canon, then yes, it 'breaks' it, but there is a reason for that.

Like how the anime is merely an interpretation of the manga, so is this game. AND, like the anime, this game was made when the mangas were still going. And since Akamatsu probably did not want his secret to be known to them, the developers had no way of knowing what the outcome will be.

Not that it matters. It's still an interesting discussion. Canon or not. And like how a few anime only characters can still be 'fanficed', so is a game only character here.

Well I only asked since Akamatsu has a habit of being pretty lenient on adaptions of his creations (with exception of the worthless negima-anime), he's acknowledged several things that were introduced by the anime as canon so I wondered if anything from the games were recognized too.

I read the thread, I knew it was from a game, hence the question.

I would venture a guess and say that the game isn't part of the official canon. True, while Akamatsu was involved with it and provided artwork for the game from what I've heard, I don't think it was meant to be actually part of the Love Hina canon and to be taken as such.

So yes, it breaks canon, but since the game probably isn't considered canon - even in Akatamatsu-terms - it is therefore overlooked and ignored.

Too bad for Mizuho.

Despite that, I'm more curious as to how far and to what extent she can be used as a character for fanfiction. Granted, including Mizuho has been done before, actually. I checked just to make sure, and I now remember Liber Logaeth including Mizuho in his fic Your Orders.

From there, it depends on the author and whether they want to include her being Keitaro's actual promised girl. But with that, I wouldn't know how to properly integrate Naru and Mutsumi into the whole equation.

Funny that I mention Naru and Mutsumi - I was looking around a few forums and after having to register just to use the search function (...I HATE doing having to do that), I found a rather curious post by a member there about Mizuho's personality. I'll take it the said member has played the game. Current information that I know of has Mizuho as funny but slightly weird, but with this...

She is about as mean spirited as Naru. Naru has her Naru Nuclear Punch, while Mizuho has her Atomic Flying Kick. Both equally devistating.

The good thing about Mizuho is she is a better cook then Naru, but you wouldn't want to be around when she is cooking. Trust me on this, I learned my lession.
...huh. Now I'm intrigued. This may actually work for one of my ideas.

This information intrigues me and I wish to know more. Anyone else got some additional data on Fujisawa and her personality and so on? I gather from the comments she has her own little tsundere streak.

Hmmm...

she has been mentioned in one of the loop snippets in passing only (2009-12-06 Loop by Crusader)

she is also in 'A Different Start' by windybreeze.

I used to have that game. I burned it for Dreamcast but I didn't understand the language, seemed like a pointless waste of time and discs. I was hoping some of it would be English.

You know, every time I hear about Mizuho Fujisawa, I can't help but feel a little despondent.

I mean, she was supposedly talked up as being a sort of Third Way, a fusion of both Naru and Mutsumi's traits. Instead, she just looks like a Naru clone with a few token changes.

Wasn't the promised girl a fusion of both Naru and Mutsumi before Keitaro's revelation at Okinawa in the last few volumes?

If I remember right, the promise girl was Mutsumi, period, and Naru being included was a retcon needed to help force the Kei/Naru conclusion.

I'd never heard of this game before seeing this thread.
