.mkv files

Does anyone how to make one of these files, or how to alter the built in subtitles of those files? Normally you have separate subtitle files when using VLC Player, but .mkv files can have any number of different subtitle or audio files in with the video.

The Matstroka download page has utilities for that.

Here is their home page.

Agreed wholeheartedly on the assessment of VLC Player.

Lol, well I only use it for .mkv, I mostly use Vista Media Center for everything else.
What player would you recommend, before VLC Player I was using winamp.

Ehhh... Windows Media player plays MKV files as long as you have codecs...

Do you have codec packs installed, and if so, which ones? Many here use CCCP.

As for other players... Media Player Classic Homecinema is pretty good.

Seconding Media Player Classic + CCCP. Or K-lite.

A definate no on the k-lite... last time I attempted that codec pack that thing disabled half my ability to play music, and caused me random reboots during playback. Removed after only about 1 hour use.

really? I never had any problems with klite.

That was a couple of computers ago though, so.

Yeah, these days K-Lite tends to require a lot more tweaking to work right.
CCCP tends to work correctly out-of-the-box, with no tweaking necessary.

The only thing I still use from the K-Lite codecs is Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative (open-source codecs to play QT and RealMedia files without having the bloated programs they normally require).
