We know Orihime lives alone, and I think Chad does as well, so how do they get money?

I guess it's possible Orihime's parent's send it to her (as far as we know they're still alive, they just don't care about her.) Possible, but I seriously doubt it.

There are actually places that sell used highschool girls' panties in Japan. Bras don't NEARLY have the same allure to pervs there. So yeah, panties. Because she'd make a pretty penny off them.

I can see several possibilities.

In Orihime's case, it could be that her brother had some kind of life insurance, just in case.

Considering that he worked, he also might have left some savings.

I have no idea of how these things are supposed to work in Japan, but considering her rather complicated personal/familiar situation she might get some kind of economic help from the government.

In Chad's case, he might have just inherited some money from Abuelo. Orphan =/= destitute, sometimes.

I remember hearing about that. And IIRC, it was through a vending machine.

They also have shops where you can sell high school girl used panties to them.

Apparently for a good sum of money too.

But that's not how Orihime gets her money.

Instead, she is paid handsomely for volunteering at an old folks home, being their chef.

Saves them money on euthanizing(sp?).

Orihime:
The money from her brother's life insurance ran out about a year ago. However, as luck would have it, a rather eccentric doctor saw her eying his son and offered to pay her bills if she would be willing to give him a few grandkids...

Chad:
Due to a set of odd misunderstandings, he gets a monthly check from two rivaling criminal organizations each trying to keep the other out of Karakura. He doesn't really understand it, but shrugs and doesn't say anything.

It's generally a common unanswered plot hole in anime/manga. They usually just leave it alone and the orphan character seems to have enough money to make due with no explanation.

For more logical reasons I think that the idea of Orihime's brother having life insurance and Chad's grandpa leaving him money make sense. I think that it was mentioned briefly in the anime that chad had a part time job somewhere during the possessed bird episode.

Heh, both of those are amusing Sunhawk...

Especially since she is eyeing the son of an eccentric doctor.

Orihime: A large portion of money comes from Chizuru who pays Orihime for modeling in various costumes and poses for her personal photo collection. This is on top of the weekly 'permission of to grope anytime' fee that Chizuru pays.

Chad: Umm..he's living off royalities from the sale of his band's cds and merchandise? (pretty sure that he was shown to be in a band at the beginning of the series but then it was never mentioned again or something)

Chad's a bouncer at a local bar. He avoids violating his vow to protect people by never actually hitting anyone. His size alone usually does the trick, and when it doesn't, grabbing the drunkards and dragging them over to the door to toss them out does.

Chad is the local equivalent to the 400-lb gorilla.

You don't charge him rent.

You don't charge him for food.

You just smile, nod, and silently pray he dosen't peel you open like a banana.

He, on the other hand, just thinks everyone is just really nice, and that it would be rude to try and insult their hospitality by asking 'why'.

Reader's Digest pays Orihime to stop sending in new recipes.

fyi, I believe Japan outlawed selling used panties in vending machines within the last few years, now they're just new pairs that are sold.
