Shadow of Kyuubi

Like "Tempered in Water" it is an AU story that starts with the fight on the Wave Country bridge, though this is about the only similarity between the two fics.
It's a shame that the author is quite slow on the update, though...

Something to Die For

Team 7 gets trained by Morino Ibiki instead of Kakashi. Has some quite original ideas.

Will of the Flame

One of the few Naruto/Tayuya stories on ff.net and (as far as I know) the longest one. It's quite well-written, with some interesting character-depictions.
Bonus points for Assuke beginning the story in a condition he should have reached at the VotE by Naruto's hands. Namely; dead. Oh, and eyeless, too.

I didn't like this fic, mostly because of the way Naruto was written with the various girls.

Realizing that Hinata liked him during his training trip was made of fail for a variety of reasons: like even remembering her (it's my favorite ship, but how can you even think that they had enough contact for her to come to his mind while he was away?), or even thinking of romance if she did come to mind (before the time skip she hadn't given him any clues that she liked him, and he sure as hell didn't have any romantic thoughts at the time.)

As for Tayuya, I had nothing against her being Naruto's pairing and I expected as much until the point it actually happened. I stopped reading the story then, because it was such a stupidly horrible plot device. Okay, Naruto wants her to be semi free, doesn't bother me. To do so, she has to give up a chance to escape and help a Konoha nin, also okay. She has to be brought into one of the Leaf's clans, also acceptable. If a male is her sponser, they have to be married?!?! Not acceptable, it is a poorly thought out short cut to getting them involved, and ignores all of the character development that would have been necessary to get them to decide to start a relationship (inclusion of which would have likely made this story one of the greats and possibly the best romance done in the fandom.)

There were other flaws in the story which weren't bothersome, but these two issues killed it for me.

I don't mind the whole "forced marriage" thing too much. The reasons given weren't that bad, and marriage was a well-used tool in comparable circumstances.

What I DO dislike about it is the lengths to which the author goes with the whole "until death parts them". Like Naruto developing (with Jiraya's help) a seal through wich he can summon and/or kill Tayuya if need be. That's what might kill my interest in the fic, if the author continues to use it.

Until then, I still consider it a good (very good, if measured at ff.net standarts) fic, that I'm willing to give a chance. I guess it's just a matter of taste, again. :huh.:

While not actually fanfiction, the stories are a GREAT read. Check it out if you have a few days free, because these books are LONG. Amazing, but long.
Not bad stories, but they're... a little off.

His big epic -- didn't really need to bring in D&D stuff at all, honestly. And he certainly took it further than it should've gone in terms of bringing mechanics into the story (spell names, I'm looking at YOU. Especially gratuitously -- he never uses "Phantasmal Killer", so why even mention it?). At the beginning there was a little too much similarity to the beginning of Wheel of Time for my comfort, and sorcery/the tower kept those elements fairly prevalent.

The ferality thing was kind of overdone in how often it was referenced, but it's better that it was there as it was than not there at all... and he did portray it and the dilemmas fairly well.

Still, they were worth reading a time or two.

I'm fairly sure that his epic, the Kael chronicles, actually evolved from a DnD campain or something, either that or the world was set up to run a campain but the campain never happend or something.

I really like his work, my one gripe was teh whinging of Tarrin Keal. It got on my nerves sometimes. "oh boo hoo, I'm a immortal demi-god now, and will not be like my firends..."

I second that motion; I've re-read the 5 chapters we have so far a dozen times or so while waiting for an update. Would be a damn shame if this fic wound up abandoned.

I read this fic somewhere on Fanfiction.net a long time ago, and it was kinda like The Life of Uzumaki Naruto, except that, in this fic, Kyuubi's real name was, of all things, Warai, and she went on to tell a story about a whole bunch of different tailed demons, and how she'd fallen for an extraordinarily-powerful demon who, in place of the usual nine Celestial Gates that a bijuu has, this one somehow created a tenth Gate.

Hmm... some interesting titles around here. I will give a couple as well. @_@

Naruto: Trail of Freedom by Terra Of Genesis
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3390341/1/
-- Good grammar and the author takes ages to get from point A to point B, though it is kind of nice to keep discovering what caused the AU.

Naruto: Legacy of the Rasengan by Tellemicus Sundance
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2938888/1/
-- I think it was mentioned in a couple of posts somewhere. In any case, it is enjoyable enough to read a few times.

The Legend of Uzumaki Naruto by General Grievous
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2348553/1/
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3271748/1/
-- Crossover with World of Warcraft. For a PoweredUp!Naruto, it is quite lenghty and well written. Pairing wise could go either OC or Sakura and it is nice that it isn't the whole focus of the fic.

Training for the Job by Desaix
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2456403/1/
-- Seems to have been abandoned, but it was a fanfic that I enjoyed reading while waiting on the next chapter of Foxhound (when it was updated regularly).

Horse of the Leaf by Hibiki54
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1901216/1/
-- This is a crossover of Ranma ? and Naruto that really picked my interest. Complete, it has our second favourite ninja in the spotlight without stealing Naruto's. :)

Behind a Mask by refused
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1944746/1/
-- One of the rare Naruto x Tenten over FF.NET that we all end up waiting a couple of years for an update. @_@

Transition Anchor by Chelsee
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1656578/1/
-- The fic you read, like, forget and then start reading again. Apparently dead and yeah, I forgot why I had it in my favourites.

The Idiot's Guide to Nindo by James Ray Edwards
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3162824/1/
-- It started quite well and it was really enjoyable. Then in the middle of the Wave Arc he channeled the spirit of Skysaber and you no longer know where the hell Naruto went. Or where is the aforementioned Nindo. I am still waiting for it to skip this narcotic journey and go back to the regular "let's just twist Kishimoto's script a bit with my AU powers" schedule.

Lack of Motivation by HarbringerLady
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2380698/1/
-- I think the only thing I liked in this fanfic was the Prankster!Naruto scenes. Talking about that, it would be nice to read a few more of those. o.o

Man, am I glad I'm not the only one who found that Idiot's Guide to Nindo got absurdly trippy strange sometime around the summoning of Mana... (and I'm not big in the Negima fandom, so while I know of her, not partial to her.) The spirit of Skysaber. :huh.: I don't know, Skysaber does a better job of keeping things together, but that could just be my opinion. Either way, did he start with Mana and go to Kos-Mos? I kinda only half-read some of the later stuff.

Once Mana showed up the story just fell apart. But the problem with Skysaber is the fact that he thinks he's God. There was one chapter that was his SI talking to someone. That character believed one thing. Skysaber said he was wrong, why he thought so, and the other character decided Skysaber was right without arguing about it. The argument was later proven by reviewers to be tottaly impossible from a logical standpoint. Shortly afterwords he retaliated by putting a message on his FF.net account that basically said everyone else is goin to hell.

Agreed. I really liked the starting chapters to 'Idiot's Guide'; the author's PyschoLoliBitch!Kyuubi is simply excellent and the way that Naruto's promotion was handled (Sarutobi having to recind his protection which allows assassins to be sent after Naruto once more; Naruto getting the rank of Special Genin, etc) was good too IMO. Then around the meeting with Haku I kinda stopped reading. Kept meaning to with each new chapter, but a quick glance just didn't have it grabbing my attention like the earlier chapters did.

Ah well, mebbe when I have some time to kill I'll go through and read the many many chapters that've piled up since I last read.

Personally, I really liked the writing style in "The Idiot's Guide to Nindo". It flowed well and the few mental twists were believable up to that point in the Wave Arc.

The introduction of Mana wasn't that big of an impact to me, it was still sort of nice and kept up with XXXHOLIC and Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle crossover he intended from the beginning. I only really started to go "huh? who put those mushrooms in my tea?" over the battle with Zabuza and we went off to the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi -- which would be the interlude of the fanfic.

I was half-expecting to come back to the right track over the Volume 02, but it was mostly about Sasuke and something I've never read about. I am going to wait the next ten chapters to go and see what is in the next arc. Hopefully it won't be Sakura-centric. o.o

I still find it enjoyable to read up to the Wave Arc. The rest of it, I am ignoring as fiercely as Konohamaru's latest jutsu. Hmm... instead of Skysaber, I might just as well add a mix of Jim Bader's and Kishimoto's soul in that.

EDIT: And so far, it just feels like the fanfic is being crossed over with whichever anime title he pulls out of his hat. Which is mostly what got me to remember those two fanfic authors (Mirrors Multiplied had too many to keep track -- I ended up skipping everything that didn't have 'Ranma' in the scene -- and I won't even talk about Jim's work).

I am rather inclined to think he is chanelling Kishimoto's soul atm though. The decline is sort of evident -- kind of like watching a bad car accident, I reckon.

EDIT 2: And just so it keeps in topic:

Trouble With A Capital T by Gmusick
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2838682/1/
-- A sort of harem-fic, there is only the setting there for now. I am currently cheering on for Temari while waiting for the next chapter. Luck seems to be on my side since the author just recently got here. I think.

So They Said by Dizzcity.

Starts out with Kakashi trying to dodge Gai and his family, and turns into a series of viginettes focusing on Ibiki and his search for love. Funny read, all around. My favorite part: in part 3, after Tsunade orders Ibiki to take time off to find a bride, he visits the admin building to get some hints as to who to date... and gets the shock of his life when the one woman he has the most in common with is Tsunade.

I have to give a shout out to Mating Season by X Serac.

A nice bit of harem crack, and it's also complete. Be aware that there are no less than 7 Naruto fics with this same title, so make sure you get the right one.

.. There's a fic I've been searching for, and i sweat it exists! I can't name ALL the main points... the only thing that really stood out to me was the fact that Naruto, taken as an apprentice by Tenten's Mom, works at the forge of the weapon shop and creates weapons, imbuing them with Kyuubi's chakra. SOmewhere down the line, Hinata helps out too... and every single one of he weapons he made had Kyuubi in the name... for example, a sword similar to Ivy's caklled 'Kyuubi's Tail', which was sold to Hayate, which altered the story enough that having the sword saved Hayate's life (as well as killed Baki)

.. I can not find it anymore, nor can I remember the name of it... but it ran similar to Legacy of the Rasengan story.

...Please tell me I didn't imagine it, cause it was a BRILLIANT story.

.. and how can ANYONE mention X Serac.. without mentioning Fetish? What's a Fetish? WHere Naruto gets to learn all about sex...

And gets a blowjob from a Tenten look alike... *grins* Naruto the Pimp anyone?

I remember reading that story as well... pity I can't remember the name either. <_< But I seem to remember Naruto being apprenticed to Tenten's dad, who happened to be named Ichigo and had orange hair. -_- (or maybe all the stories I read are starting to blend together. )

yes, it does exist, and it was a time travel fic. As for the title of it, I couldn't tell you, because I rarely remember the titles for anything. That and I really don't like Naru/Hina. Naruto had been sent back in time by Kyuubi and was fixing all the bad things, was making those weapons that were claimed to be ridiculously expensive because of the demon chakra in them, and had him learning the Hiraishin with Hinata by teleporting to her or something along those lines. But the point is that yes, it does exist, though I don't care to look for it.

edit: Never mind, the one crazyducke linked to is the one I'm thinking about, I don't know about any others as I typically avoid Naru/Hina like the plague. Guess I should actually look at the links before making assumptions...
