The interesting thing's the statement Akamatsu gave about the plot of the movie: "those who are not chosen for the permanent partner contract lose all their memories of magic."
Mangaka Akamatsu Ken posted his impression of Mahou Sensei Negima! Anime Final on his twitter. He said the script had been altered from the original scenario and it will be a little bit difficult to comprehend the story because some required explanations of the background were omitted. He asked the fans to remember the following three points before watching the movie:
1. The graduation ceremony will be held on the next day.
2. Negi has to choose one girl as his formal partner before the temporal contracts expire. 3. All the classmates other than Negi's formal partner will lose all the memory of magic next morning.
He added that the battle scenes were well-done and the climax was impressive.
According to Kodansha, the story of Negima Anime Final was changed from what had previously been announced due to the circumstances of the production. Judging from the schedule of the premiere event, the length of the movie was shortened by 20 minutes.
Honestly, based on Negi's personality, I think he would decide that letting them forget would be best as a way to protect them before they get in even deeper with him.
He would probably angst over it, which I hope isn't what the movie will be about...
This has to be based on the retarded anime series where the entire class was contracted. It just doesn't work with the manga storyline, what with a huge number of the girls already doing their own separate thing involving magic. And in the case of Konoka, having her own partner in Setsuna. Or Shiori, who's a magical world native. Or Chachamaru, who's a magical robot. Or Asuna, who is the Princess of Twilight. Or Yue, who is one of the Ariadne Knights.
Considering some members of the class are magical beings themselves, or are in the process of being trained as mages, or like Konoka from a long line of them, that's kind of stupid to erase their memories.
I'm wondering if it isn't a goof. Either in translation, or he just wasn't clear. So, only those who didn't have a prior connection to the magical world would loose their memories of it the next day.
Seems a bit more plausible, but we'll have to wait and see.
I think it's highly probably, given that spoiler, that Akamatsu's fucking with us. Either by lying, implying it so he's not technically lying, or "Oh hey, all of them." or "Wait, no, Asuna/Eva/Negi fucked it up somehow."
Yeah; I mean he created a soul for Chachamaru through sheer bloodyminded willpower, all he need do is glare ferociously at the Laws of Magic, and they'll roll over for him.
A review of the movie <a href='http://yaranakya.wordpress.com/2011/08/28/anime-review-1-negima-anime-final/' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>http://yaranakya.wordpress.com/2011/08/28/...ma-anime-final/</a>
Sounds like shaft took a lot of liberties with how magic and such works in the negima verse, and ignored a lot of hints/etc the manga has given.
No where previously does it mention that permanent pactios erase the memories of the non-magical initiated provisional ones, until the movie. Although, the manga's Q&A section does say that normally you only have one partner permanently, keyword being normally.
