So, there's a new Type-Moon forum out there other than Beast's Lair.

It's address is here http://forums.darksidemoon.net/

If you can't stand Beast's Lair, you might wanna give it a try.

There's going to be overlap anyway. It'll turn into Beast's Lair 2.0 soon enough.

edit: Wait, Cherry_Lover is that Sakura fan right? Did he rage quit BL to make his own forum?

That's probably Mike; he's, uh, pretty famous, I guess is the most judgement-neutral way to put it? He's well-known, people know who he is.

It's true that he's no longer a member of the BL family, but it's not that he rage-quit and left in a prissy huff; he got in a spat with someone there, and that someone was a mod, so he got permabanned. I do not know specifics (nor, honestly, do I really want to know) but generally the feeling is, that a permaban was too heavy a penalty for whatever-it-was that happened. Although there have been feelings in the past that Mike has escaped censure for words he has directed at other members, so it might have been over-correction?

Right now my feeling is I don't really want to defend him, but at the same time, he's not a cartoon super-villain twirling his mustache, plotting your downfall; so please don't talk badly about him when he's outside the conversation.

The major difference is that we don't have assholes like DP and Altima as admins....

I got permabanned, completely unjustly, due to Altima being a twat.

What daniel_gudman said probably about sums it up, actually. I got into a fight with Altima (who was previously a friend) and he then rage-banned me, RoadBuster voted to ban me on the basis that he felt I should have been banned a long time ago (even though I'd improved a lot recently) and then the mods voted to ban me because they generally hated me, and wanted any excuse they could find to get rid of me.

We'd've invited y'all to come here instead but, y'know, we don't even have an admin.

Yeah, and you also lack a TM lemon forum and a TM discussion forum. Plus, IIRC, the ability to admit new members....

This is a good site, but it's specifically for fanfiction, not more general discussion.

What's more important is that Altima banned him in violation of the set procedures BL had established - the moderator in question broke his own rules, and in doing so, became a tyrant.

As for the new forum, I just finished registering. Elf, you planning on advertising it somewhere other than places that are already heavy with members of Beast's Lair? Otherwise, you'll just become "that breakaway forum", and it's unlikely it'll become very active outside of the people that founded it.

Well, the main question is where to advertise it....

FSN forum can and has just doubled as a Typemoon forum in general here.

And we do have a lemon section but it's properly sequestered away :)

It lacks a TM section, though.

Well... when some fucktard will not stop fucking demanding every story feature Sakura and her rescue from Zouken, sooner or later someone is gonna get rid of that fucktard.

Is that why he was banned?

And can we expect someting like that from this forum because let me tell you I don't like Sakura at all.

Its more like he crossed the line one too many times and an Admin finally had enough. It wasn't a banning strictly by the forum rules and seemed more like a ban based on the repeat behavior of someone who is relatively quick to anger over the mistreatment of a fictional character. His reactions often set off other people and I'm sure there have been authors who've screwed Sakura over in their fics just to spite him.

Thankfully, I only lurk over at BL. It and DLP are places I don't even bother to post at.

Not at all, no. I was banned because, despite me being far better than I used to be, Altima didn't like the fact that I thought for myself and didn't just do what he told me to do (Altima also being a Sakura fan, and often arguing in her favour as well).

And can we expect someting like that from this forum because let me tell you I don't like Sakura at all.
No, but the forum is likely to have quite a lot of Sakura-centric stuff....

This is actually a major question. As the various attempts to create an alternative to this forum have proved, getting a viable forum population isn't easy, even when the motivation to leave a forum is as strong as it is here (No mods! New members can't register!).

I almost hesitate to bring it up, but I think there is a way to get the seed population you need to be a going concern: Gabriel Blessing, or more specifically, his fans. That's a lot of people, and they don't come from any one forum, which means they would provide good word of mouth. If you sell the forum as "like Beast's Layer, but with fewer canon-nazis" he might post there.

I think he's perfectly happy with his FF.net forum. Besides, he doesn't have that many consistent commenters, and few of those are more than casual Type-Moon fans. In all of the omakes Only one of the Shikis has appeared, and only a few times by the same author.

Yeah, that's the problem I'm having at the moment. There are a few people who are showing up because they know me, but whether it's enough for a viable forum is questionable, and how to get others is also uncertain.

Well, possibly, but I can't guarentee the "canon Nazis" won't show up at a later point....

I still don't see what that forum offers that DLP/TFF/Beastlair/Spacebattles does not. Four fan forums are enough, why go to yours?

If the forum is advertised this way and it winds up actually being that way I might be able to put up with having Mike as a moderator. Sadly there's going to be at least one Sakura Nazi to make up for the lack of any canon nazis.
