It looks like it's gonna be my turn to DM for my IRL group soon.

So I thought I'd do something a little... different. Instead of characters, I'll have each player roll up a sentient magic item; the backstory is they were all created by a wizard named Bartholomew the Insane. They'll get a bonus to their ego score for being within the same group, so I think that will be a nice way to leverage them into a party.

The thing is... what the hell kind of campaign goal would a group of items have? And, what would be the best way to hook them into their first adventure?

I'm curious to see what you folks come up with.

Hum. Well this is a curious conundrum. Have you considered the Pinocchio approach?
Mayhaps the sentient items want to be humans (or elves, orcs, dwarfs, midgets from out of space...). Or at least one does - possible that had been possessed by someone (a perty girl say) that left quite an impression - and the rest tag along for the company.
The draw-in would be finding out about magical potion, staff of changing, crazy alchemist, transmogrification array that would turn them human.

--------
Of course, I'm a little confused as to how sentient items would adventure to begin with - are they golems? Do they possess the people that wear them? Are they like the Pixar Lamps - hopping about?

Ever played Baldur's Gate 2 and acquired the blade known as Lilacor? It would be an "evil" campaign, but the desire for gold runs deep in everything, even in weapons.

Barring that... have them quest for the ultimate anti-rust solvent or a godly blacksmith to make them actually effective against something other then the common goblin. :evil2:

Be cliche, make them hunt for owners, thus leading into the next campaign.

I think at least one of the items should have a means to move, unless you want them to totally depend on others finding them and using them. Also, how will you handle it when most of the adventure is out of their hands? After all, if they are dominating their users, then it would not be much different from a normal campaign.

Have the items goal be to take over specific humans and then join together with an uberhuman and take over the world.
