I'm not saying it would be a good idea, I'm saying Kiritsugu was pretty much driven by guilt at that point. If he knew his "daughter" was going to die young and he had an artifact that could stop that, he might save her without fully considering the consequences. I mean, consider how he raised Shirou. The boy had survivor's guilt and his new dad just made it a lot worse instead of actually helping him heal. I'm not saying that was really his intention, but by the end of his Grail War Kiritsugu is getting eaten by so much guilt and regret that he doesn't have a lot of perspective.

So yeah, Illya is the strongest master in the war by far, and she's got the Avalon stuck inside her.

Man, this is shaping up to be the Grail War that finishes when Zelretch or Blue shows up and says "alright, I don't care who started this, I'm ending it." Dues ex machina~!

That would be a very BAD idea. Now you've given more fuel to the enemy (or in-laws). He dies soon because of the curse, and the little psycho is now a tool of her family. Not cool. Unless he kills her family, then inserts Avalon, things might be different.
Given how pissed off the Einzberns are with Kiritsugu after he screwed them over, killing the lot of them is probably the only way he actually gets to Ilya to give her the sheath.

So we have Ilya, free of the Einzberns (who are most likely extinct as a result), raised by Kiritsugu for a few years before he dies...and with Avalon, practically guaranteeing that she'll summon Arturia.

The others wouldn't stand a chance against an Ilya-powered Saber, with the possible exception of Gilgamesh...but if Ilya's still the vessel (and the Einzberns aren't around anymore to prepare another one, so that's probably the case) that means that she won't be there at the end to order Saber to destroy the gate. Angra Mainyu emerges--world goes to hell--Bad End--Kiritsugu visits a strange hint corner and gets a thorough chewing-out from the granddaughter of his landlord and his daughter dressed in gym clothes. :)

I don't think Raiga's the landlord. He just takes care of the property taxes and whatnot until Shirou's capable of doing so himself, I think. Besides, wasn't Taiga his girlfriend for a while before he died in the OTL?

And seriously its only a crush on Taiga's part.

Depends on how you want to play it really

It was excavated in Cornwall at the request of the Einzberns shortly before the Fourth Holy Grail War and used as the catalyst to summon Arturia as a Saber class Servant. It is still in pristine condition after one thousand five hundred years, though it no longer functions without a connection to its original owner. It is able to be used as a "Master's Noble Phantasm" after she is summoned. It can be disassembled and sealed inside Saber's master or someone who will constantly be close to her, such as Irisviel von Einzbern, as a Conceptual Weapon to provide them with its regenerative abilities and also allow them to supply more prana to Saber. There isn't a requirement of having a contract formed with Saber to use its abilities, but having one will provide the true benefit of immortality. The scabbard constantly provides regenerative abilities while she is close, and by making contact with Saber, injuries can heal even faster. She is also able to directly give prana to the scabbard to further the regeneration. It will not function or have any of its properties if she is unable to provide it with prana by being near its wielder. It is potent enough to heal critical wounds rapidly and restore the wielder's health. The body will reconnect itself, large missing portions of the body will be restored, and cuts will quickly heal. It is enough to keep Irisviel functioning as person, while she would normally start to break down and lose functions as a human due to her status as the vessel of the Grail. She needs to be within range of Saber to function completely normally, while her suffering increases as Saber is farther away

This creates the motivation for Kiritsugi to stay alive and actually initiate the next war. Then let Ilya summon Saber. That would probably mean that he would die sometime during the war or after it/during its end, for a more dramatic ending.
