Akamatsuverse Oh my god...

Did you know they dubbed the Negima anime? I just saw it on TV, and boy is it terrible.

Negi's voice made me want to drive a pencil thru my ear. It's British sorta, but it's also a girl. And don't mean a girl who sounds boyish like the Japanese VAs do, but really badly girl.

Oddly enough, some of the other VAs have accents too, and while I expect everyone on Hellsing to sound vaguely British, I don't expect it from Japanese schoolgirls.

And finally... it has nothing to do with the dub, but the episode I saw had Negi pactio the entire class. Which is just, weird. Man the anime is messed up.

So basically Negi sounds like Ash from the dubbed Pokemon....

That's it, it must die a thousand deaths.

The worst part about this? The person doing Negi's English voice is a GUY.

In other news, the first episode of the second series (Negima!?) is better than the entire first series by a long shot. Lots of quick sight gags, including an appearance by Chiyo-chan. Haven't seen anything else yet, but it looks promising.

Though I will say that I actually thought Sayo's episode in the first series was quite good.

THERE IS NO DUB OF NEGIMA.

Period.

edit: Oh, and elegy? Would you please shrink the size of your .sig picture? It's screwing up the page on an 800x600 display.

Sig picture size reduced. Is that better?

Yes, I am a smartass. Probably why it's best that I lurk.

Yeah. You'd be a little fish in a big pond, no question.

I am enjoying the new Negima?! anime which has 2 eps fansubbed on YouTube. So far the animation is considerably better and I suspect its more closely following the story and intent of the manga, though I haven't read that myself. There are significant differences in styling, more OVA level quality and lighting effects, filters, etc. Its really nice looking, basically.

Negima!? (the exclamation point comes before the question mark in the title) is a spinoff of the Negima! manga and does not share it's plot. At all. From what I understand of it (I can't watch the episodes myself - not on dialup anyway), Negima!? is supposed to take the characters and setting of Negima! (magical ten year old Brit, magical Japanese school, and thirty-one Japanese schoolgirls - some of them magical) and put them in a much more light-hearted and comedic theme. I've heard comparisons to Excel Saga, for example.

Having only seen two episodes so far, its not that different from the original plotwise. Its starting off with the Evangeline vampire plotline shortly after arriving. And Asuna's bells ring, which is different from the original anime. The classroom has a less traditional shape, more like an oxford auditorium classroom and less like a traditional flat middle school. This changes the dynamics a bit. Also, Takamichi practices magic in this too and is paying attention to Negi and company, watching over them and fixing problems before they become disasters. Like Excel Saga? Not as spastic. Less than Love Hina too. Its still early, though.

It might be best to say Negima!? is going to have a different plot in the future. Right now, since it's doing the Eva arc, it's clearly using the manga as a bit of a starting off point. Instead of moving to the Festival however, I suspect we'll get an original plot afterwards.
