Naruto Orochimaru, The Absentminded Scientist-Nin

Not sure if this counts as a full-fledged idea, though I intend to write some snippets if my muse ever becomes willing to do so.

Essentially, the idea is thus - Instead of essentially fitting into the stereotypical Mad Scientistesque role, Orochimaru is a brilliant but absentminded genius, constantly coming up with new ideas that if followed through could revolutionalize the field they apply to in the Ninja World. Except Orochimaru rarely follows up on any of his ideas, as he keeps forgetting about them. He never left Konoha, as he never became interested enough beyond a brief pondering of the studies (Immortality) that led to the crimes that got him named a Missing-Nin in canon. Hmm, maybe Danzo is the one that went Missing-Nin her and uses some of Orochi's ideas in his own new ninja village, Village Hidden in the Root? Or maybe a better name for that...

Thus, he still has Anko, following him around and writing his ideas down in an ever-present notebook, and the ideas which are eventually sent off to the appropriate experts in the fields that those ideas apply to and that Anko, in Orochimaru's name, has a deal or deals with. Orochimaru hears a rumor about Chakra Armor from Snow Country and figures out how to make the Chakra armor... and then forgets about it, where Anko documents the plans and research and sends it off to Konoha's R&D in Orochimaru's name.

Orochimaru ponders how the Swords of Hidden Mist's Seven Swordsman were made, and after extensive research figures out how to make a sword on the same level as the Hidden Mist's swords that would have varied hidden abilities depending on adjustments made during the making of it, and forgets about, with Anko sending the research off to a retired nin that's now a blacksmith and works for Orochimaru. Etc.

Orochimaru messes around with summoning and figures out how to summon objects and materials that are apparently from other worlds, including new poisons, strange weapons, instruction manuals and books on strange things often in languages not seen in the Elemental Countries, etc., leaving Anko to figure what's useful and what's junk and who to send it to.

Anko gains a huge reputation in her own right, as the High S-Ranked Copyright Nin, due to having to chase down anyone trying to make off with Orochimaru's work or foiling the many spies constantly trying to listen in on one of Orochimaru's offhanded musings that inevitably lead to one of his research sessions, etc.

Eventually, Orochimaru (or Anko, who by default needs to stay around her sensei as minding him and getting anything useful of his research has become a full-time commitment for her, but if her prospective team is trained well they can help her do her job much better) either is assigned a gennin team or requests one, based on traits or abilities they have that he's heard of that he's had a few ideas for.

"Oh, Sharingan user, right? Hmm. When you get your sharingan, try using a ninjutsu of one element you've learned like a normal ninja at the same time as ninjutsu of another element that you've learned with your sharingan and... Oh. I guess that won't work. I wonder if..."

Or...

"You can use Shadow Clones? Great. Anko-Chan here has a lot of things she could use your help with. Also, could you make a clone and have it take it's jacket or clothes or something? I'd like to know examine shadow clone'd material to see if I can get a better understanding of objects made solely of chakra..."

And that's it. For now. And no, I have idea where exactly it came from.

If you want to keep Orochimaru as a villain, have his henchmen be Kabuto, who's been taking advantage of Orochi's penchant towards... distraction... to steer him down the wrong path and keep him there.

(Orochimaru) So much interesting research to do! It's a pity that we have to keep moving the labs, but Konoha's jealousy at my genius keeps leading them to declare my work illegal. Illegal! What a ridiculous notion. Those test subjects were perfectly all right and returned to their families safe and sound, Kabuto assured me he'd taken care of it.

While I plan on writing snippets for this, I'm leaving this open to anyone interested in it. I don't think it likely I'll be able to make a full-fledged story out of it, but figured if anybody else could I should put it out there. I'm pretty interested to see what TFF makes of it. My version will stay loyal to Konoha, partly because I think "The S-Rank Copyright Kunoichi Anko" has the potential to be awesome crack and partly because I like the idea of Team 7 as Orochimaru's or Anko's gennin team has alot of potential of its own in this 'verse.

Still, I have to admit Absentminded Orochimaru's antics in Akatsuki and Sound village do sound like they have a lot of potential too. If my muses are willing I'll see what I can come up with. Maybe do both versions, him as a missing nin and not.

Thanks. I'll try to have one up soon, but my muses are fairly unpredictable so it might be a while.
