If you're going to call six books of writing (more than 3000 pages) "arbitrary and insipid" and throw out the whole series, why base your story in a series to begin with; when you're basically not even going to acknowledge it.
I haven't forgotten anything. I just don't delude myself that Harry/Hermione has even a flicker of canonical basis, not after six books worth of writing; not after
all of the author's repeated comments for
years, especially after the sixth book.
I don't like Harry/Ginny
either -- but I don't call it "arbitrary". Many people's criticism of Harry/Ginny is based on their thought that it came out of nowhere; that Ginny suddenly became a focus of the series when previously she essentially hadn't existed. They forget that Harry is an extremely insular person who hardly even pays attention to the people of his year outside his own house; so much so that he didn't even know who Susan Bones was in
Phoenix when he'd been having Herbology classes (at the least) with her for four years.
Ginny before
Phoenix was a background character, but she was a background character who was at least viewed positively. Hermione is a foreground character very often viewed negatively.
And relationships work both ways. Even if Harry were interested in Hermione as something other than close friend, which canon amply shows that he isn't, it would require her interest as well, and he doesn't have it. He's
never had it, not from the very beginning of
Stone. The Harry/Hermione crowd denies that as loudly as they can because they simply have refused to see the truth that was right in front of their eyes. I can't think of nicer words to describe that than "foolish". Perhaps "blinkered", is that nicer? No, I don't believe so.
