Q re Stargate iris

In multiple stories now, I've read that the energy flux from an incoming wormhole event will destroy anything in front of the wormhole. It's implied that this extends a rather noticeable amount from the stargate. Yet on the stargate wiki, it says the iris is 3 micrometers from the surface of the horizon.

How does the iris survive incoming wormholes if this is true?

Hmm. You know, the title of this thread makes me wonder. Would Q survive getting hit by the Stargate's vortex?
