Evangelion Query ?

Does anyone know of a story where Shinji arrives with multiple personalities.

I had the idea that initially no one will notice this little piece of information because Shinji's canon personality is the seemingly dominant one and has no idea about the others.

Obviously you would need a dark violent berserker personality embodying everything he's surpressed but you could have all the facets of shinji's personality split up, so there would be his logical analytical side, his bastard gendo side and maybe his idealised 'noble' self.

these other personalities might be non dominant and know about each other because they are actively surpressing his dark side and diliberately hiding from his canon personality, but feed him suggestions when he is day dreaming or take over his body when he is asleep.

@Wolf: To answer your question the only fic I remember been something like that had Loki sealed in his mind as another personality. Another fic with a similar idea was a SI were the author was stuck in Shinji's head talking to him. Hmm... There should be one or two more with voices stuck in Shinji's head but I can't remember them right now.

@Scygnus: I agree it's an intriguing idea with potential for Drama and Comedy. We need someone to write it.

Would be funny. Have the particular Shinji in charge of Shinji in an Entry Plug. Alternately, have the Shinjis run Shinji through committee a la SEELE.

These reminds me of something I did/watched/saw at a theme park once. I think it was Disney actually, but it could have been Universal.

Anyway, I'm thinking a permutation of this that would work really well is to just borrow the concept the used for Raven and her alternates in Teen Titans. It was the first season episode with the mirror that was a portal into Raven's head. There was happy, timid, brave, gross, knowledge, rage, etc. All of them color coded. Doing something similar here would be interesting - especially if we modify the initial opening and Shinji knows about them, but his introversion is a defensive measure. As a child he saw a few too many tv-shows/movies where people like him ended up in asylum's that were worse than maximum security prisons and so keeps to himself lest anyone discover the fact that he's crazy.

For extra lulz you might play it that this sort of functional insanity is the result of genetic mutations caused by Second Impact in a small portion of the population and is in fact what makes it possible for somebody to pilot an Evangelion without getting "eaten".

While I'm aware of a couple where he developes a variant of MPD during the series in a story, I'm not aware of one where he shows up with one.

For extra lulz you might play it that this sort of functional insanity is the result of genetic mutations caused by Second Impact in a small portion of the population and is in fact what makes it possible for somebody to pilot an Evangelion without getting "eaten".

Oh god. Imagine how bad Asuka's personalities are. Angry, Angrier, and Angriest? She's like Khorne incarnate...

I wouldn't be surprised if one of her personalities is green and talks in third person...

This has been done. Sorry, but there's only so far that LOL! So randum! can go without losing its funny. It might sound a bit hypocritical, since my own fics have 'voices in the head', but that's just it... they're distinct personalities separate from (Shinji) the main character and so avoiding such OOC behavior that it might as well be <s>a Stu</s> someone else there. It's really too bad that most of the time this plot point is used as a cheap way of insta-badassifying a wuss. It's unsatisfying because berserker rages show hidden depths, while an MPD excuse is far too upfront about that it's far more entertaining to just admit to playing with a Self-Insert and stick fanfic writers into the brain (I'm reminded about that really amusing short about the SI's mistakenly stuck in Chibi-Usa's head).

Taken the other route, the MPD really requires that the different personalities not really be aware of each other. Otherwise, really, it's just talking to yourself. Most everybody does that. Most of us have subvocalized voices that cut in at odd points; saying the things we want to say or that feeling that stops us from doing something that in retrospect would be a really bad idea. Or pushes us into them.

Names are important for MPD personalities. Clinical cases usually have different personalities attached to middles names or nicknames, and different personalities tend to be gradations on a theme... a dominant one might be aloof, another competent, another over-friendly, and unlike 'Holywood Multiple Personality' can usually be excused away as changes in mood or being under the influence of alcohol and other addictions. True MPD cases are rare, since they're usually either diagnosed as something else entirely or in themselves rather limited. There are of course the obvious personality splits (ala Two-face or reported demonic possessions), but that's full-blown psychosis.

Have there been MPD cases where only the dominant personality is unaware of the exsistence of the others, only thinking that he seems to be forgetful, missing odd segments of time easily?

Personally I think that the gradiations on theme would be ideal as each facet is still shinji, same motivations and desires, just solving life's problems in slightly different ways, makes it easier to explain why no onw has picked up on it yet.

the committee thing reminded me of something in Hitchhikers guide where zaphod traumatised his own brain so that his plan wouldn't be exposed when he was brain scanned but could still give instructions to himself to furthur his old self's agenda.
