Ranger Effect

Note: Blame Linkara's history of the Power Rangers for this...

xXx

Earth had changed a lot over the past century, something not unexpected after the events that forged the Systems Alliance. War of a type never imagined, spreading out across the stars, new world, unimagined powers, and battling giant monsters with combining robots.

John Shepard hadnÆt been accepted by SPD, but the military had taken him in and given him the same chance as those long ago legends had.

And then Akuze had happened, leaving him the only member of his team alive.
He hadnÆt used his morpher since, but had continued to do the jobs needed to keep it from happening again.

ôCommander,ö the voice startled him slightly and he stiffened.

ôSir,ö he answered, starting to come to attention as if by reflex.

ôDonÆt bother Shepard,ö AndersonÆs tone was more somber than normal, something he took as another side effect of the vista from the ships observation port.

Sure, it was a holographic projection, but it still carried the same weight as looking through a window.

ôThe alliance has a job for you,ö his mentor stated calmly.

ôWhatÆs the mission?ö

ôThatÆs the hard part,ö came the answer, ôCommand has started talking about making ties with the Citadel, opening a few doors to prevent a repeat of the war.ö

John swallowed hard, he remembered the stories of that, both sides suffering catastrophic losses while Ranger Ops had their own problems with a UAE resurgence.

ôWhat do I need to do?ö

ôWe need someone to build a team,ö the Captain stated, ôBut first, I need your morpher.ö

Slowly, John undid the strap on his wrist, glancing down for a moment.

ôAre you sure about this,ö he asked, ôSir?ö

ôNecessary evil,ö the other answered, a touch of sorrow as the older man took the device and sat it on the table while bringing out a sealed case and motioning his protÚgÚ over, ôBut it is necessary concerning what we are doing.ö

He flipped up a cover from the side and placed his thumb on the sensor
.
The metallic container released a hiss of escaped gas as it opened to reveal something that John Shepard recognized.

ôHow did you get them?ö

ôWe tracked down the maker of them a decade ago, a week ago he finished fixing them up,ö a pause as the man grinned at him, ôAll seven original power coins are in working condition.ö

John was torn, on the one hand this was like being told that he had just pulled Excalibur out of the stone, but yet he wondered why him. His last team hadnÆt survived the duty, and heÆd only lived by lending up in a niche of rock unconscious.

ôWhy me?ö

ôYouÆve proven you can do whatÆs needed,ö was the only answer that Anderson gave, ôAnd survived where all others died.ö

He was about to refute it, but the look on the other manÆs face changed his mind as the device was held before him.

ôAnd I believe that youÆd look good in whiteàö

ôWho else is on the team?ö

ôWell, thereÆs two current candidates, the first is a native of KO-35,ö came the grin, ôYou thought weÆd stick you into this alone, youÆve been working with Alenko for a while and weÆll keep what works.ö

ôAnd the other?ö

ôA little gift from Eltar,ö came the answer as the door hissed open, ôI present Alpha 5.ö

Codex: Relay Wars

When a Turian patrol encountered the research team investigating a Relay, the brief war became an anvil trapping the Systems Alliance between it and a brief resurgence of the United Alliance of Evil.

The lack of Ranger support on the Turian front led to heavy casualties before teams could reach the new war front.

Codex: Akuze Thresher Incident
The first encounter with Thresher Maws was exacerbated by the creatures consumption of a small research outpost studying artifacts recovered from various villains.

Three Ranger Teams are lost and presumed dead before the larger than usual monster was put down by orbital bombardment.

Kaiden Alenko stood at the overlook of the lunar colony, watching as the newly completed Normandy rested with its cavernous hanger open wide as the forms of Zords were ushered into the craft.

These were legends, machines that had fought the worst the galaxy had to offer, and even forces from beyond. Only a handful of them were actively ready, but the others were still being repaired.

The red and silver form far below held his attention most of all, a reminder of his new responsibilities, and yet not the ones most associate with the color heÆd been chosen to wield. While the red ranger was normally the leader, he never wanted to end up in charge. Something confirmed by the situation, as with the later times of these inherited powers first owners, White was the leader.

Earths transcendence started here, on the moon thanks to the failed containment of Rita Repulsa so long ago and the wormhole that linked Luna and Mirinoi.

ôImpressive ainÆt she,ö he had to grin at JokerÆs comment.

ôYou mean the Zords or the ship?ö he asked, a fragment of a smirk on his lips.

ôItÆs not like weÆll get to see how I can handle those things theyÆre loading onto her,ö came the answer from the pilot.

ôSheÆs no megaship either,ö he shot back at the other man.

ôWell,ö came another familiar voice, ôEnough arguing, weÆve got another candidate to pick up near the Relay.ö

Kaidan jerked to attention at the commanders voice and spun, ôSir?ö

He should have expected the new wardrobe, but at least Shepard managed to find something that worked rather than going for the half-expected stormtrooper motif.

ôSurprised youÆre not in armor,ö he managed to add a moment later.

ôWell, figured the morph would be all the armor needed this time, youÆre wearing more red than usual anyway.ö

ôFigured IÆd get a head start on the wardrobe, seems we both had the same idea.ö

ôAnyway, Anderson and Alpha are already onboard; we have a candidate the Citadel sent heading towards a rendezvous point near the refueling station.ö

ôOh?ö Joker managed to add his thoughts with a look of annoyance.

ôSeems that the deal is to send a spectre and give the team equivalent status,ö John commented, ôFigures theyÆd send one of their best and the Alliance thinks we can keep up.ö

ôWe always do,ö came the retort and a shrug.

Codex: Lunar Base
Following the discovery of the wormhole between the moon and Mirinoi, a permanent station was positioned around the stabilized passage for normalized traffic shortly after the incident with the reactivation and subsequent destruction of Serpentera .

Ashley Williams ran through the narrow passages of the dig site as the enemy swarmed in.

Her team was down to two, herself and one other, with the rest falling to the surprise attack, not even a chance to morph.

ôSend the distress call,ö Bhatia ordered as they both had a moment of calm, ôIÆll try to hold them off.ö

ôYou canÆt stop them all,ö she shot back, wondering if they could even survive.

ôWe have to try,ö came NiraliÆs response, ôWe have to do this.ö

ôRight,ö Williams responded with a nod as she held up the badge, ôLetÆs.ö

ôSPD Emergency!ö

xXx

Codex: Space Patrol Delta (SPD)
While not quite as heavily armed as the various military ranger teams deployed, SPD does have the largest force of Rangers available at any time using technology developed more for peacekeeping than for outright warfare. As such, SPD has a presence on the more heavily populated worlds in the Alliance as well as teams on several with lesser population.

Ah, that makes sense, while Shepard and Alenko (and presumably anyone else who can use the coins on his crew), as a special team, get the power coins, Williams gets the more mass producable SPD Morpher, as she's only a regular soldier.

Also, in regards to the Luna base, would the hanger of the Mega Winger, the one shown everytime Zane called for it, still be there? Yes the Mega Winger might not be functioning anymore (or it was rebuilt/remade if it was, it was reported as destroyed by Zane in Countdown to Destruction), but I don't think its so easy to move the hanger.

Of course, this is part Power Rangers, where you can breathe and ride horses on the moon.

It's still on Luna.

And the comment about Mirinoi earlier on was pointing towards an eerie similarity between Trakena's "evolved" forms and the Collectors in that it will come up later.

Original Power Coins? Does this mark the reappearance of the Sabretoothed Tiger, Mastodon, Pterodactyl, Triceratops, T-Rex, and White Tiger Zords?

...because those are pretty much the only ones I remember. The last time I ever actually watched Power Rangers was that movie they had ages ago, with all the zords getting trashed, and the rangers having to go on a quest to become ninjas...or something like that.

Yep, and all of the zords being rebuilt.

Most of them were repaired by using some of the pieces left from the 2nd set of coins save for the green rangers which was rediscovered during an estate sale.

And the original coins are still somewhat intact, just badly damaged. For instance there's the In Space episode where Adam proves the Mastodon coin is still viable, but unreliable due to damage.

The zords from the 2nd set were tied back into the original set as well.

And the thunder zords are essentially evolutions of the original, and could go back and forth with the repeated use of the sequence of their transformation into their second form.

Honestly, I'm suprised the villians never tried to take advatadge of that, get a monster that asorbs lightning, leaves the rangers with the dinozords and the Tiger Zord only, with most of their strong formations eliminated.

Which still leaves them with the original Ultrazord available, something that Zedd still hadn't faced off against.

They still had the original green coin at that point, though mostly drained, and it could still be reinforced by another coin as happened through a good chunk of the first season.

But on top of that, there's still the bits of it that are just part of the genre such as them not attacking while the monster grows or the monster attacking them when they morph...

So...what exactly changed in the Power Ranger timeline that result in the Power Grid not being disabled and the Villains of the galaxy not being dusted (aside from Zedd and Rita who were humanized instead) ?

The big changes happen between SPD and the future points of Timeforce.

The grid was disrupted as at the end of In Space.

Remember that the Rangers could still morph after the disruption in the normal series as shown in the crossover with Galaxy, Forever Red, and Once A Ranger (Which also shows that the original powers could still be stabilized).

And there will be a cause for a lot of the changes that did happen.

Technicly Conner only ever showed as much power as the standard red... heck, the battlizer has a worst record than the Triassic Ranger upgrade. And anyway, if you want Shepard to be overpowered, give him the Zeo powers, they've been growing in power since the 1990's.

i think those got merged with the Turbo powers, which seemed... lack luster in comparison. Though the Lightspeed Rescue morphers should be lying around somewhere. Including the Titanium Ranger Morpher.

Nope, as Linkara points out, they never said what happened to the Zeo powers, although they apparently planned for Divatox to destroy them, it never happened, the Turbo powers being switched in because they were needed for the mission, but were never switched back, likely due to the Turbo Zords needing Turbo Ranger power.

In fact, of all the morphers up till now, the following shouldn't be powered: Time Force, and even then the Quantum and likely the Red Morpher are still around.
Wild Force, if only because the Princess has them
Ninja Storm, bar Tori's Water Powers.
Mystic Force and Operation Overdirve I didn't really watch, so others can fill in for that.
RPM, if only due to its unkown place in the timeline or canon status
And we don't know about Samurai yet, but if it follows the sentai, the morphers are still around post series.

Time Force Morphers would still be around, the Red and Quantum Morphers were still working quite well for Wes and Eric even during Forever Red.

Zeo also wouldnn't have their Zords either destroyed or the Super Zeo Zords that were apparently given back to Trey

The Time Force Morphers could be partially contested though, its fully possible tha Time Force sent a force to retrieve the red morpher once Wes is dead.

Quantum would still be in the timeline anyway.

Also, there is the major possibility that a later Red Time Force Ranger was involved in the "rescue" of Doggie in SPD that we don't know the specifics of the time for.

While thats true, and we do see Time Force Red as Sky's dad, it is very likely, as I said, that it was retireved once its current user was dead, it is Time Force property, unlike the Quantum Morpher.

I'm not sure if it would even matter due to it being gene locked

The RPM morphers go taken back by the creepy scientist lady, and I wouldn't recommend their use. The Big Bad of that series uploaded himself into the morphers, so in a way, he's still around.

Whatever happened to Titanus anyhow. Did he get destroyed or could he still be lurking around somewhere.

EDIT: Never mind I found it, he got wrecked. Rita killed him, and he was my favorite Zord *sigh*

Source? In the series, he stuck around for the ninja zord season, and they never explained what happened to him. He's probably still around but inactive, like Tor.

He get's wrecked before they get the Thunder Zords.

Season 1 Episode 39

If he was still around after that... I dunno. Though I thought they switched to Tor for the Ninja Zords.

EDIT: No Tor was for the Thunder Zords, and I just found a clip of Titanus combining with the Ninja Megazord. So... Yeah I have no idea what happens to him.
