When there's an English sub, I'll give it a chance.

With all the new technology we have these days, it had better at least look good.

This is going to fail so hard, the aftershocks will be felt for years afterward.

Very likely, but it still possibly for it to not suck. Depressingly improbable, but possible.

Maybe there'll be a new Ranma anime afterwards if it is successful.

Well, I recall years and years ago, someone in Hollywood had plans to make a Ranma 1/2 movie, but nothing came of it in the end.

Also, I get the vague feeling the pics for Akane and Female Ranma are switched.

If the title of the thread had been Ranma Live Action Comedy, I'd have some hope.

Hey, guys, give this a chance.

After all, the live action Sailor Moon series that came out not too long ago put new life into the Sailor Moon franchise and got the anime and manga re-licensed after all.

Who knows? Maybe, like Dumbledork said, it'll give us a new Ranma 1/2 anime.

There was that OVA not too long ago.

I'm normally optimistice but the following line kills my geneally positive outlook.

Live action drama to air in December. Original storyline to deviate from established canons.
For them to make a specifice point of that fact does not fill me with hope.

I like that it is noting multiple canon continuities exist

It is not nessecarily bad if they deviate, but they may loose a lot of fans...

Consider 2 examples... Transformers and Star Trek 2009...

Transformers fans grumbled, but a heck of a lot of fans went to the movies and liked them... my own brothers were bigger fans than myself and are fine with it.

Star Trek 2009 on the other hand... practically caused a warlike schism to occur in the entire online fanbase community, as that movie and time reset turns its back on hundreds of episodes across 4 series (5 with cartoon), multiple movies and the games and pocket books franchise series and tech/history books collections... The modeler community and various tech facts sites also were affected, quite badly... Paramount made it worse by two key issues though, they were inconsistent in sizes on the ship (unlike many series, Star trek fans will rip apart a movie or scene frame by frame to get details and measurments), and they are taking way too long to continue it with a follow up of either another movie or a series.

As for Ranma... I can only see one type of actor in the role of Ranma, that would be someone whom can pull off both comedy and over the top yet high grade martial arts...

In other words... a younger version of Jackie chan...

10 bucks says it will have excessive and exclusive Akane-centric focus that will make Baby Raptor Jesus cry tears of blood

Better focus on Akane than any other girl in that series.

Also, deviation from canon is not necessarily a bad thing. Quite a lot of the manga is pretty terrible imo. And who knows, maybe Ranma and Akane will actually act their age in the film instead of behaving like five-year-olds.

Seriously, I cannot see how they could find director incompetent enough to not notice that even anime, as much as it's generaly about about beating dead horse, cliches, and, most of all, shallow characters, actually managed to advance a lil' bit in last two decades. If anyone thinks ~2012 teens can relate to characters that put duct tape over their mouths when forced to perform scenic kiss, or miliard other past century gimmicks, please raise your hand.

But I do not think the fan split is likely. Potential new fans will simply CBA about Takahashi being traumatized about whole Lum vs Shinobu fiasco, while many among old ones had ample time to get bored with outdated cliches. It's hard to keep going gaga over Akane after seeing, for example, how Misaka Mikoto got constructed as a character and potential relationship to show's main male baka.

No takers. According to Anime News Network, relaying information from Mainichi Shimbun:

As the third daughter of the Tend?ì family, Akane is determined to protect the family's legacy, its d?ìj?ì. However, her father Soun suddenly and arbitrarily announced one day that "only men can be heirs." Unfortunately, this puts Ranma in a bind, since he turns female when splashed with cold water after falling into a cursed hot spring in China. To return himself to a "full man," Ranma searches for the "secret hot spring" and gets caught up in a battle with a mysterious enemy. Now Akane holds the key to the story.

And I'm not surprised that Foesjoe doesn't like a lot of the manga. :snigger:

No thank you. I doubt that I'll watch it.

Meh, it can't be worse than Dragonball Evolution and Legend of Chun Li.
