Before I begin I'd like to point out several things.
  • No, Ranma will not be leaving Nerima, I'm tired of people complaining about it, it will all happen in Nerima.
  • Second of all, its just a crossover, and if you look on FF.Net, there is a lack of Ranma/YGO! crosses, and yes I know CANON Ranma would not play a card game, but I want him to, so nya!
  • Thrid, no I will not be changing any of the character's personalities, just their actions.
  • Fourth, The Kuno's, as crazy as they are, will play a big role in this fic.
  • And finally, I'd like to see some comments and suggestions on making this fic possible, not any criticism towards the idea. I respect your opinions, but you guys take some things WAY too far for my liking.

OKAY! now that I've ranted myself out. Lets begin.

Settings (In Order of Importance):

Ranma 1/2: Shortly after Ranma fought Herb, way before the Saffron Arch.
Yugioh : After the Series End (Characters much older)
Yugioh GX: Right before the Second Year.

Summary:

Ranma gets a heavy package and a note from Seto Kaiba, explaining that Ranma's Mother is his Aunt (by Adoption, seeing as Gozuboru (probably spelled wrong, the man's name sucks anyways and hes dead) is Nodoka's older brother) and has heard that Ranma is the best at Martial Artist. Kaiba had sent this note explaining that he needs a better challenge other than Yugi, and so Kaiba is challenging Ranma to pick up the game of Duel Monsters. The Package, contains some of the best cards in circulation at the time.

Ranma accepts, seeing that its just a harmless game and hes been challenged to worst. Ranma tosses the Note away, not knowing that Sasuke had read the note and got word to his master, Kuno.

Kuno then confronts Ranma, asking if what his spy learned was true, that hes the Cousin of Seto Kaiba. Ranma replies positively, and Kuno declares his loyalty to Ranma, saying that the house of Kuno has always served the house of Kaiba, and seeing as the current blood heir is Ranma, Kuno swears his house loyalty.

Ranma accepts, saying he doesn't need a servant, but a friend that won't try to kill him, and Kuno, in his own twisted way, teaches Ranma how to play duel monsters.

And then things just snowball from there.

-rolls eyes- I'd like constructive criticism croaker, not destructive criticism. And I saw a lot of the latter on my last Ranma/YGO idea.

<_< fine...maybe I did incite a little of that, but Ranma/YGO fics are too far and few and are really Make it or Break it kind of concept.

However, I still say they ripped apart my idea. I think the whole point of an AU is to do something out of the norm, and all fanfics do count as an AU...sort of.

I was fine with the idea... until the summary.

The Kaiba thing seems too convenient. The Kuno thing... sounds tacked on for no reason.

As for the card game itself, no comment.

Taking into consideration both yugioh series only 9 Ranma/Yugioh crossover stories exsist

This.

Resolving something so fundamental as the antagonism between the two should *not* be this easy. Work it, use your imagination, build up to actual genuine loyalty.

Just off the top of my head suggestionwise.

If Kuno has to serve, why can it not be only because of his family's oaths and not because he personally likes it? It's not like he can switch gears instantly from thinking Ranma is an SOB to loyal vassel. Perhaps he's only doing it with gritted teeth, looking for any loophole to get his own back at the first opportunity. Make Ranma *earn* his loyalty the hard way. Perhaps Kuno can get some of his own back by using his greater experience in a field Ranma hasn't at first.

Heck, if things fall out between Kaiba and Ranma, which side would Kuno go for?

In short, if you intend to use the Kunos as a major part of the story, make us care.

@ Tengu: As noted above, I do not intend to change much character wise so while Kuno is offering this, he does so under protest. And when Ranma accepts, The only thing that changes between them is that Kuno can't cause great harm to Ranma (Like say, try to poison him or injure him mortally). Other than that, the interactions between Ranma and Kuno when not dealing with the storyline is relatively the same. Kuno might not call Ranma a foul sorcerer, but he still thinks Ranma has "bewitched" his "beloveds" and will often make bets with Ranma in the duel to "free" them from his "foul" clutches....Quotation Marks. XD

So Ranma and Kuno are friends, but in the same loose sense as Jaden and Chazz is. Chazz might not like Jaden, but he'd rather beat Jaden on his own than rather resort to outside help. And while Jaden may actually like Chazz as a friend, he knows that hes also a fierce rival and respects him. I dunno about Ranma respecting Kuno, but thats how the idea goes.

And if Kaiba and Ranma have a falling out (which gives me a good idea, thanks tengu), Kuno would have to side with Ranma, as much as he'd like Ranma to be crushed.

Techinacally, Ranma is the Kaiba clan's living heir by blood, and while Seto controls Kaiba Corp., Ranma would eventually become head of both the Kaiba and Saotome family (seeing as Genma isn't really reliable). Kuno would have to side with Ranma on that issue.

While it is a Ranma 1/2 and Yugioh Cross, things like feuds between family members would have to be settled traditionally, as it is in Japanese Culture.

I hope that answers your questions.

@ Shiki: The Kaiba thing was just...a rock-paper-scissors kind of thing. For this idea to work, someone influential has to get him into duel monsters, someone he can't dismissed. While I could say it doesn't have to be family, I'd like to have familiar ties with Ranma as a personal preference. I could've done Maximilian Pegasus as the benefactor, but thats been done before. I would do Yugi Motoh, but not a lot is known about his parents, and I was afraid of touching on that subject cause really - that just SCREAMS angst. And so that left Kaiba. I had written previously a Ranma YGO fic where Seto and Mokuba's deceased mother was Nodoka's sister and while that Idea was good, now that I think back on it, it wasn't enough to float an idea.

The Kuno part, I explained as a part of the answer to Tengu's question.

@ Dan: Not a lot of people like crossingover yugioh. Its nothing against the series, but most of the authors are Yaoi fans as majority of the characters are male.

And nothing against that, a lot of those fics (yugioh, gx, and 5Ds in general) lack what makes yugioh...yugioh: the duels. Which is fine, I guess...its like going to read a pokemon fic without pokemon. Or a digimon fic without digimon. Or a Naruto fic without Ninjas....I think you get my point.

Kuno using the phrase 'foul sorcerer' or otherwise ranting about magic spells supposedly cast by Ranma ranks right up there with the crappiest of fanon craps anyway, so why not drop it altogether?

@ Sledgehammer: Its why I dropped that whole gimmick. Kuno will probably say different things but the bottom line is that kuno will be hounding Ranma about his girl side and Akane. At the basic levels, thats Kuno at least. Calling Ranma a foul sorcerer is, like you said, fanon.

And one of them was written by me years ago while horribly drunk and is phenomenally bad.

I've always intended to rewrite it at some point- hrm. And by rewrite I mean remake in its entirety, because it's /that bad/

[/hijack]

In any case, this looks interesting if managed well, but I think the basic concept is doing too much work to shoehorn Ranma into Yugioh. If you want Ranma to play cards, there's far easier ways to make it happen without having to come up with crazy familial relations. But it's your story- if you feel you can make it work, by all means take a shot.

Simple method for how to get Ramna playing a TCG:

Have Ramna-chan flirt with some card nerds, that can think with something other then their lower heads, for a quick treat. They'll treat her if she wins. If she loses, they had a game against a pretty girl, not much more a group of nerds would ask for in Nermia.

And then have the story evolve from there.

Sorry to bring this back op (but it's at the same page so it's not really bumping for bumping sake right?

My point is that Kaiba wouldn't stay single forever right? And what about his brother? If Kaiba had to choose between a guy he's never met before or his own brother then it would be the latter and not the former.

Aside from that, it is always possible to produce his own heir....

I had an idea for a Ranma YGO cross a while back. In it Ranma never heard of or learnd about Duel monsters, He just took duel to mean Martial arts fight and beat the shit out of them and looted the bodies. And when he finally learns bout the game he doesn't even bother with any kind of rules sind no one else does; fake monsters, lying about the powers, stacking the deck.
