String togeher several score in a carbon-fiber and plastic mounting and vola railgun. :flameon: For a smallbattle field version in 40mm powered by cartridge style loadstone in the base with a multi-feed mecchanisim with several types of ammo. Said ammo storage having space expansion and permenat lightning charms to make single ten pound ammo can hold several hundred rounds of 40x160mm spell cannisters and explosives in simple fin stabalized shells. Weapon is good for several hundred meters at least. or can have extender put on for greater/velocity as needed. First time its used in battle the purists would ban it and the muggleborn embrace it. America would have scores wth their Rapid Response Magical Regiments. Mounted on the air-jeep.

Whats an air-jeep. Think flat-bottomed twelve man skiff in steel (or a special forces fast boat) with a amidships drivers position a forward gun tub (railgun) and its own loadstone/dragonheartstring powering the magic carpet based flght spells. Can we say air-cavalry? ::blink:

Two-seat gunship version. Fully enclosed armored cockpit. Has very braod weapons plylons. a railgun in front (or just plain old 30mm canon or gatling guns) but weapons plylons in the under wing storage positions can be retracted to reload up to three times from interior weapons bays. :jawdrop:

All use magic t power apparently technological effects or allow 'muggle' forms of attack. Plus both the skiff and Gunship can be portkeyed if powered from a loadstone. :evil:

Think of thje carnage in using mages for troops (trained in cross-over spec-ops tactics and some firearms) backed by these two relatively simple platforms could do to the purists and even whole nations.

The Purists wouldn't know what hit them. Especially if the gunships used ward breaking ammunitions (runes scribed sappers) onthe first pass and a skiff set up seige line wards around the property to prevent apparition, portkey, owl and floo. :flameon: :blink:

yeah, this sorta thing appearing on the scene not long after voldemorts second rise would really shake things up.

Think of this thread more of an an Ideas sort of thing. The technological and magical ideas being used to crosspolanate each other and creating new or different applications of old effects.

Who has the weapons. The ones who made them. Most likely the First World countries but as the idea for the weapons spread along with the techniques from muggle manufacturing them all hell breaks lose as the technomancery geni gets loos....

Would muggleborn have them and the ones driven out by the purists? I don't know what do you think or write for that matter. this thread is for the ideas.

Say you want to make a fusion reactor. Biggest problem isn't producution of the fusion reaction but containment.

Enter spells used to contain fiend fyre or other magical fires. WSmart squib brother to a mage studies these things at uni in the High Energy Physics lab of UCLA Berkley which for some reason has anti-detection wards...

Long story short Squib and brother get a containment vessel for a fusion reactor to work and only be the size of a small car. This includes the fuel recylce loop and a fuel cell with Tritium in it that can power it for five years.

Plus the direct power conversion crystals that convert plasma to electricity or pure magic. In 1987 they are mated with a simple railgun excellent British Chobrums armor and a antigravity motor based on levitation/spell arrays from a magic carpet. M1G is the first grav tank and gives the Soviet block observers a heart attack. Especially the 210 tons weight (ninty of it armor0. A 150mm railgun with a six kilometer effective range an the next generation thermal sight over the M1. A coax 12.7mm HMG. Plus two (left and right ball turrets) with a 7.62mm electric gatling gun and five thousand rounds each remote controled from the commanders position.

This monster backed up with an Infantry fighting vehicle version and most importantly a barge or small ship (25,000 ton container ship) able to fly at low altitude to resupply forward positions or act as a forward base (including bombardment via artillery , missile or deadfall ordanance) for moving armies. The New Liberty ships totally revolutionize all commerce and warfare, construction, mining, salvage EVERYTHING. Oil becomes usefull only for plastics and as a transition fuel or for chemistry. Ten years on it stops being used for general transport. A Fusion reactor driven sky-barge hauls containers between cities and electric trucks handle local delivery. trains run on fusion reactors and still haul most bulk cargos but finished products and perishable generally go by sky-barge.

Airlines are gone - An enterprising squib gets his cousins to help disguise and power portals with fusion reactors for concity to city and intercontenental travel and mail delivery. UPS and FedEx buy in instantly and most airlines are crushed under the new Federal Portal Service. Who's entire stated goal is to lace a web of portals between every cities airport, Amtrac and Greyhound bus stop in America in ten years. Most countries soon follow and only the military and private flyers stay in the sky for long (aircraft mechanics change over to skybarge repair, pilots drive them and even the first pleasure ships and the families who give new definition to snow birds). Travel time between east and west coast in now minutes to maybe an hour.

NASA loves the new sky barges. No weight limits for payloads and with contra gravity drives usable to 90km the hydrogen rockets are only needed beyound this point and for no-contra gravity platforms and satilites to reach orbital velocities. No spectacular surface launches anymore. But Cape Kennedy gets much busier when iots found a portal can go from surface to orbit :yay: and the Space race gets much more energetic.

but what i'd really like to see is a story in which this is brought into effect.
maybe harry starts school not long after this change starts up and by the time voldemort comes along things have seriously changed for the world and a major beat down occurs.

Smuggling is also harder and much easier with shinking spells and spacees that hold more then they seem.

Magic makes it very easy for the bad guys. But for good guys also. Going through customs is far quicker. Stand in the arch. Put you hand on the palm-plate and insetrt your pass-chip card into the reader. Reader taps national data base for a bometric scan in the rune scribed arch while the conveyor scans your bag for magical supression or contraband backed up buy sheets of rune scribe scanner plates. Takes sixty seconds if that and there are ten lines at major international traval ports. With three lane checkpoints that can be activated for the interstate portal system and for going into high security zones.
