Anything by Vathara.
Hell yes! Vathara kicks ass.

Okay, this is probably just tooting my own horn, but I have one of my Stargate fics to recommend in addition to some other great ones:

The Puddlejumper Diaries

Random stories from the perspective of Atlantis's most under appreciated residents: The Puddlejumpers.

Something's Come Up

Cadman and McKay got separated at the end of Duet, but little did Laura know that she took a bit of Rodney with heràMcKayCadman, BeckettCadman.

In boredom I recently came up with a very plausible method to having a British-run Stargate programme... and then, upon realising what a chore it is to juggle a bunch of OCs in a realistic layout for such a project, I gave up pretty soon afterwards.

It did, however, make me want to read some decent Stargate fics and, instead of making a new thread, I thought I'd uber-necro. Preferably on the SG1 side of things 'cos I never got into SGA, I'm looking for decently lengthed AU fics. Please indulge me with many links.

On a side, but related, note: Anyone seen the trailer for Stargate: Universe? Glad to see they're continuing the franchise. It's apparently going to be very different to the last two series. Probably influenced by the likes of nBSG and Heroes; going to be more rugged and 'realistic' so I'm looking forward to it.

Have UNIT run it.

I'll give it a try, but as a fan from the get go I liked how SG-1 fused the comedic and serious parts, so I'm not sure if I'll like Universe or not. I just don't know if it'll seem like "Stargate" to me or not.

As for recs, try this out: Altered Destiny: Divergence Point
Summary - AU. When Anubis makes a different decision during his attack on Earth in Lost City a chain of events is unleashed that will change the universe forever.

I had the Royal Navy find the Antarctic stargate in the 1940's but only really begin researching it after detecting energy surges in 1969 (when SG1 travelled back in time). Then everything pretty much goes the same as in real life, conveniently ignoring the NID use of the antarctic gate, only the Brits have a facility set up in an attempt to study or use their stargate.

When SG1 have to use the American stargate to destroy the Replicators and the Russians swoop in to collect it off the sea floor, the Brits tell the Americans they've got a second gate and it pretty much starts a Cold War 2. That was the rough plan... but it seemed like too much hard work and I had a serious case of the cba disease.

Anyway... I'll check out that fic in a bit and tell y'all my opinions (because everyone obviously wants to know what I think).

Wouldn't Sam/Jack/SGC have a sort of idea of the second Star-gate being known when they come shooting out of the Atlantic one in that episode where they discovered it? You know when Sam and Jack are going through the Star Gate and its attacked by those laser things or whatever it was and jumped from the one on the base to the Atlantic one?

Yes well, that was the rough idea but, as I said, I couldn't be arsed to take it any further and work out any kinks because of all the OCs I'd have to create.

Anyway, I read that fic. It's... alright, I suppose. Iunno, interesting idea but I just found the writing to be boring for some reason. I did end up reading this fic a while ago. It's a bit ameriwanked but it's well written so far.

There's a large collection of pretty good SG-1 fics at
http://www.prophet.phlegethon.org/Fiction/...frame-index.htm
almost all of them in the same continuity. Until season seven-ish, the author was attempting to keep his fics compatible with canon, and they are still largely so, if you squint a little.

These fics include some sub-series centred on Gouald, and on other stargate teams, one of which gets to deal with Lovecraftian elements.

<a href='http://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-16092/Hotpoint+XSGCOM+Goa+uld+Defence.htm' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>XSGCOM: Goa'uld Defence</a>

An SG1/X-Com crossover and one of the best Stargate fics I've seen out there yet. I'll go even as far to say THIS is what SG1 should've been.

I love how the author not only revisits those little known one episode worlds but integrates them into the storyline. Planets like Euronda and Optrica/Bedrosia, those worlds had potential for some great follow up action, it's a shame the show's writers forgot about them.

I shall second this nomination :yay:

my only complaint is the time between updates. :blue:

Hell most of hotpoints stories are rather decent to great.

I always like Hotpoint's fics up to a point and then something always springs up that niggles away at me until I just can't continue reading. The only one of his fics that I haven't stopped reading halfway through is his Fallout one... probably 'cos it's only ~6 chapters. They're excellently written, though, and I do recommend them.

Wow, this list is rather deficient.

Anyone got any good recs? Preferably SG-1, though SGA/U are also ok. Personal taste leans away from shippy fics, though I will read them if they are really awesome and the ship isn't the sole focus of the story (an example of that being <a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3394910/1/Honor_Amongst_Thieves' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Honor Amongst Thieves</a>, a blatant Daniel/Vala ship-fic, but with so much awesome packed in that I really didn't care). I like a lot of the action that generally comes with SG, but also enjoy the moral quandaries and politics that often crop up (thus <a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4678383/1/Empress_in_the_shadows' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Empress in the shadows</a> is awesome). Crossovers are also more than welcome.

YMMV as to quality, but <a href='http://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-6930/kevinm+Xander+Mercenary+-+the+sequel.htm' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Xander Mercenary the Sequal</a> ,a BtVS multi cross that StarGate plays an important role in, is alright for killing some time.

A good clone fic concentrating on the team relationships in between SG1. Eventually J/S but doesn't detract from the story.

<a href='http://www.mindspring.com/~redbyrd/desperateendeavor.htm' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>http://www.mindspring.com/~redbyrd/desperateendeavor.htm</a>
The reactions of the shuttle crew that picked up SG1 at the end of the 1st season.

<a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3546854/1/Reunions_are_a_Bitch' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3546854/1/Reunions_are_a_Bitch</a>
SG1 meets NBSG and they don't get along well at all.

Jack is on death row for killing Carter. Crossover between SG1/NCS

Speaking solely of that pairing, despite how heavily it is favored in canon, I just don't much care for it. Now I've never been to the website, but an entire site promoting that pairing just seems like it'll be full of nothing but crappy ship-fics. Which begs the question of whether that is the case?

There are other places that promote other ships, I just don't read them.

And like all other stories, what one considers crap, another considers mediocre while another thinks its a gem. YMMV.

Gah shipfics, they're the reason why I don't even bother checking FFN's SG1 fics anymore. Oh and Terra from the Deep updated.

I have issues with hotpoint's work, and i've got into heated arguements over it.

my problem is he's prown to force canon adherance in his XSGCOM fics. no matter how much Xcom's presence should cause things to diverge he will then Force, and i do mean force the story to basically match up with canon for the most part, like the eye of RA thing he shifted things round, and yet RA still got the eye, still destroyed Abydos.

oh and lets not mention the Replicater Business...

I love his story but the problem I have with his works comes along the lines that he can't write battles for shit unless it's a curbstomp.
