Reflection, Prologue II: Paradox (Magus)

Broken weapons litter the sands, abandoned. Unattended.

It is a desolate wasteland.

Swords.

It is their battlefield.

Blood.

It is where one will fall.

Screams.

And where the last one standing will be the only one breathing.

Justice.

/-/-/-/-/

Sparks flew.

I am the bone of my sword,

Their weapons clashed.

Steel is my body, and fire is my blood,

The boy was fighting for his beliefs: ideals that would not hold in such a flawed world.

I have I have created over a thousand blades,

The man was fighting for his existence: the right to live, to be... to stay.

Unknown to death,

Their hands are tired, but they must go on.

Nor known to life,

Their blood has run dry, but they must continue.

Have withstood pain to create many weapons,

Their eyelids are heavy, but they must stay vigilant... for they stand before one another, the greatest foe that the other has known.

A mirror image of one another.

So, as I pray...

"ANSWER ME... EMIYA SHIROU!"

Sword met shield.

And it was time for the curtains to be called.

He prayed one last time.

Unlimited Blade Works

Zelretch turned to the chess board with a grim look.

"Checkmate."

His opponent rose an elegant eyebrow.

"But the game hasn't even started yet."

A/N: One more prologue piece, and I'll start the story. And I edited the dialog. Inappropriate. Please critique.

*stroaks imaginary goatee and enters Vizier-about-to-throw-you-into-the-scorpion-pit mode*

Not nice, this teasing. ;(

But... it DOES light up the fire of interest in this one. We Shall See? how this will develop :D

Just the fact that Zelretch is there pulls my curiosity. I'm also a sucker for fics dealing with Shirou's beliefs.

Keep going, please.
