Can we get rid of our 'Reputation' system?

It's one thing that seems to be a common ground with most (not all) folks I interacted with (forum and IRC) while proposing a 'Thanks' system.

I asked our hosts (icyboards) to see if this were possible. Here's the related thread,
http://forums.icyboards.net/showthread.php?tid=5063&pid=42440#pid42440

For that matter, we can even get rid of the 'number of posts' and 'joined' dates if we want, though after thinking about it for a few more hours, I'm not sure where I stand on that matter.

But I would like the current 'reputation' system thrown out the window. Thoughts?

I'd be fine with the reputation thing gone.

However, I'd rather the joined and posts entries stay.

Heh... I just noticed... my own reputation just dropped today... Oh well...

Most likely because of your opinion in the TSAB thread.

Meh... Probably... For sure my opinion on that series is not the general consensus. Either way I'm not concerned with it...

I've stated it before, but for multiple reasons I simply consider the reputation system worthless for judging people.

All I know is the last I looked at it, I was at 2, now it is 1.

An opinion I can stand behind. We might have different ideas on 'alternatives' but at least we seem to agree that its got to go.

I wouldn't mind the reputation system so much if negative votes required you to give a reason, required mod approval to count and people who abused that feature frivolously got warnings, so people would stop using it to attack people for the shallowest reasons. If someone is insulting people or spouting bigoted crap or posting insane conspiracy theories or something, that's adequate reasons for a negative repvote. Stand behind your downvote by giving an actual reason for doing it and a mod would likely agree. Don't just vote people down without comment because you disagree with their interpretation of a manga, that's stupid.

Edit: Or maybe just get rid of negative votes altogether but keep the positive ones, those seem to be pretty much harmless and it's nice to know when someone appreciated something you posted.

Not really that 'its got to go', more that I do not see the point and would not care if it went.

But my reputation!

Noooooooooo!!!!!

Okay, now that I've been overly dramatic enough...

Yeah, the rep system probably should go.

I've seen enough of how it can cause friction within fandoms over on AnimeSuki. Especially with those Gundam fans *shudder*. Just ask Rising Dragon about how he got neg repped for not liking a pairing.

So, yes, the rep system could be abused.

Though, so long the system tells you who neg repped you, it might keep people in check, as you can't anonymously give out rep.

I think you guys are just taking it too seriously. I was a member of a forum with a reputation system before, called Karma there, and we treated it so farcically that the top posters all had massively negative Karma.

Exactly. Its not hurting anyone, and anyone who thinks red means that someone is an asshole obviously doesn't understand TFF. +haha

The whole thing is just an extra bell. I see no reason for this to even be an issue.

I don't mind keeping it. And I would be rather against losing the posts and join date. The latter gives you an idea about how active someone is and honestly, zeebee wouldn't be zeebee without constantly seeing that ridiculous number next to his name.

Good news! I just found the reputation controls, so I am now capable of turning off the reputation system entirely. This would have absolutely no effect on any other forum system.

I'm going to put this to an official vote over the weekend.

Excellent news! It reinforces the testing I did on a separate icyboards forum I made for myself with sockpuppets. Can I assume that the link I put in the OP was helpful?

I'm going on a trip this weekend, so I doubt if I'll be able to vote - unless we extend the voting period for a week. Can we do this?
