Nasuverse Servant Archer - Ayako

On the Shirou's Servant: Rin thread, for one of the suggested arrangements of Masters and Servants, I wrote this line:
"Servant: Archer (Mitsuzuri Ayako - became an Epic Hero after an apocalyptic disaster, which she will do anything to prevent)"

Its got me wondering, what sort of disaster that might have been. Also, what sort of Servant would Ayako be, and what would her Noble Phantasm be like?

For the disaster, I had an idea, but I'm not sure how plausile it would be in the Nasuverse:

A group of Luddite magi create a type of gremlin, with a two-stage 'life cycle'. The first stage is like a disease with an infectious incubation phase - they reproduce, and travel from city to city to factory to town, increasing in numbers, but staying hidden. The second stage is triggered by some predetermined event, probably astrological ('When the Stars are Right'), far enough in the future that the gremlins can reasonably be expected to have spread to most major cities and manufacturing centres. When that happens, the gremlins begin smashing every complex machine they can find, bringing modern civilization down around them - and of course, causing many, many people to starve to death, crash, drown, et cetra.

In a world like that, an expert archer would certainly have a chance at becoming an Epic Hero among the few survivors, guns being rather more complex than bows.

Haven't thought about what her Noble Phantasm would be like. As for her appearance, all I've got is 'thin and ragged, but unbroken'.

Okay, the apocalyptic idea has a problem with the fact that, well, counter guardians would generally be sent out to kill anything like that. There is an apocalyptic future in canon Nasuverse, but that's a long time in the future, and was partially caused by the conflict between humanity and Gaia, if I remember correctly.

Second, unless Ayako turns out to be incredibly skilled (like Assassin), or ends up learning a form of magic that complements her style (like Archer) chances are, she will be a very weak servant, even if she had a contract with the world.

EDIT: This is of course outside the fact that there really is only that way for her to get into the throne of heroes, given the issue of modern times.

Interesting.
have you read F1's Ayako/Assassin lemon? It would be relevant to your interests.
Of course, I'm not sure how/where you would take this.

Charon's the type of guy who hardly takes up whatever ideas he posts up as an 'annoyingly slow writer with too many ideas'.

 Hey, I have an idea, she could have been Shirou's "Secret Apprentice" and got pissed when he died before she could pay him back for the hellish training she endured. :sweat2:

It certainly won't tie in to any recent and/or popular games or anything along those lines.

OK, let's drop the 'apocalyptic' part, as I was never sure about that working, in the first place. 'Disaster' is still possible, as, for example, her timeline's version of the Fifth Holy Grail War doing more damage to Fuyuki City than even the canon Fourth Holy Grail War did (or, maybe it was a more personal disaster, like many of her friends and/or family being killed).

As for how she learned enough magic to be a useful Servant - and to make a contract with the World - perhaps she witnessed magic being done, but the person she witnessed did not want to kill her (that idea has been used in at least on story, though I don't know if she'll be learning magic in that one)?

Being just Shirou's apprentice would make her to much like EMIYA!Archer, but he's not the only one who might choose to train her, rather than killing her - Sakura, for example, certainly wouldn't want her dead, and might draw the conclusion that two cute girls working together would have a better chance at getting a guy than one cute girl, working alone. Likewise, Rin wouldn't want to kill Ayako, and Illya at least wouldn't want to hurt her onii-chan's feelings by killing his friend.

For one potential Counter Guardian Ayako, I recommend Gugenka, by F-1. It has to high a rating for me to link you directly to it, but it can be found on MediaMiner.org. OTOH, that Archer isn't likely to be any more friendly to Emiya than canon Archer was, and might not be to fond of Rin, either, given her interests.

I have an idea for another version of CounterGuardian!Ayako, which I'll post later. Friendlier than the one in the fic above would be, but also a fair bit creepier.
