On the Shirou's Servant: Rin thread, for one of the suggested arrangements of Masters and Servants, I wrote this line:
"Servant: Archer (Mitsuzuri Ayako - became an Epic Hero after an apocalyptic disaster, which she will do anything to prevent)"
Its got me wondering, what sort of disaster that might have been. Also, what sort of Servant would Ayako be, and what would her Noble Phantasm be like?
For the disaster, I had an idea, but I'm not sure how plausile it would be in the Nasuverse:
A group of Luddite magi create a type of gremlin, with a two-stage 'life cycle'. The first stage is like a disease with an infectious incubation phase - they reproduce, and travel from city to city to factory to town, increasing in numbers, but staying hidden. The second stage is triggered by some predetermined event, probably astrological ('When the Stars are Right'), far enough in the future that the gremlins can reasonably be expected to have spread to most major cities and manufacturing centres. When that happens, the gremlins begin smashing every complex machine they can find, bringing modern civilization down around them - and of course, causing many, many people to starve to death, crash, drown, et cetra.
In a world like that, an expert archer would certainly have a chance at becoming an Epic Hero among the few survivors, guns being rather more complex than bows.
Haven't thought about what her Noble Phantasm would be like. As for her appearance, all I've got is 'thin and ragged, but unbroken'.
