The Shadow Chronicles is one of the best fanfics we've seen.

I re-read On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, and I wanted to talk about it, so I figured hey, why not here.

Specifically, the voice manipulating Wynneth. I wonder if it's whatever is sealed in the Aether that makes the Grim, the Grim, but I'm not sure; it might also be one of the Illithids from the deep future that Dragon was talking about.

What do you think? Who's the puppet master, the Jenova to Wynneth's Sephiroth?

I thought it was related to the Wynneth on Ranma-Red's world: I swear I remember something about that one being bound to another person.

This is like the holy grail of the fanfics for some and the satanic verses for others.

This things is soo good that if will make you laugh, cry and you will love and hate it at the same time.

And to make it better or worse is among the longes Ranma fanfics ever, if if you're reading this for the first time youre gonna think that it's filled of fanfic cliches... which is a lie since this is the fic that invented those cliches.

All I can say right now that that I never got to know my inner masochist so well until I read this story, and sometimes when my faith falters and my inner masochist can scream again I know that I still have to read like 3 new chapters... and all I can do is weep at my own weakness ;)

I managed to hold for a couple years this time, thanks for reminding me that I need to reread the whole thing again one of these years.

I have re-read this story at least four times. (Though I only read the prequels to it once since most of them are rather boring.)

Last time I read it was... *checks site* September 2008. And now I'm going to re-read it again.

Damn you.

Who IS that as your avatar, Oh Fat One?

Anyways, yeah, I usually steer clear of the other stories, too: the only ones that really interest me is the first one, the one about the Kunos, and the last one before On A Clear Day.

I also really like the On A Clear Day I Can See My House From Here stories.

I tried reading this story once, several years ago (at least five or six), found it immensely dull, and never tried again.

Same here. Somehow that author's style just bored me to tears.

Maybe I'll give it another try one of these days.

To be honest I mainly just skip most of it and just re-read On A Clear Day You Can See Forever rather than the entire Shadow Chronicles. Its much much more interesting.

I only read 'Clear Day' and didn't bother with the others since they have Ranma/Akane. I really like it, except that Ranma is really annyoing for refusing to have sex with a VERY willing Minako and Rei.

Well, it's made pretty clear that he has ISSUES. And, they're pretty justifiable.

As for the voice... It's pretty clear it's connected to the Outsiders, but as to how. I don't know. Perhaps some remnant from the Time Gate's activation (of course, even W. is not that old)?

So leaving aside Ranma's hang-ups, I'm going to point out that for the audience it's been seven years since chapter one, but for Ranma it's been like two weeks. Considering that, he's opened up to them remarkably fast.

I seriously don't remember that, but then again I read it like a decade ago.

Also, I don't think Wynneth was "Dracula times 10" in the Red World, whereas in Saeni she's like the Queen of the Damned or something. I did go piddling around trying to find some evidence of your assertion, cuz it sounds right, also interesting, but was surprised with how little of the original arc I remembered.

Anyway....

You know how everyone imagines scenes that they thing would be epic cool, but would actually be kind of bad for the story? Things that would be awesome as singular moments, but would derail the narrative or the plot.

Here's mine.

Dasma: ...And that's why we have to protect this last sphere, when all others fell with the hyperways.

V: Wait, aren't you from another sphere, Ranma?

Ranma: Oh? Oh, yeah. The uh, the Slider Police never bothered rebuilding the Hyperways 'cause the Doors made 'em obsolete.

Dasma: what.
I just wonder about how Dragon and Dasma are all talking about how this is the last world, all the others fell to the Dark, and Peorth is like "maybe he's been to other worlds, that might even have people" and Hild's like "that's absurd, everywhere else is monsters" and meanwhile, meanwhile Ranma's hitchhiking between parallel worlds because he didn't feel like getting a job with the Slider Highway Patrol.

Hilarious.

So. . . What do we know about what the Voice wants?
It was frantic to avoid Mamarou being murdered. So it needs him to be alive for some reason.

I... had completely forgot about all that. Either that, or I didn't put the conversations together. Still, that'd be hilarious: the world thinks that they're the only ones left, only to realize that everyone else just kinda forgot about them.

Damn... I saw this and thought that some over-excited fan had noticed an update.

Yeah, love the story, re-read it every time it comes out, still waiting for my angsty slider/dark priestess/nympho threesome.

No chance... I was on the site a few days ago, and again last night... checking...

Unless he updated today... no update.

Sigh.... Why did you have to go remind me again.......

I usually re-read Clear Day about once a year (its the best part of the whole thing) and always re-read it all when ever a new chapter happens... however after all this time and no word on it, I've been trying to give up hope.

Meh.

Thanks ever so much for rekinding the lost hope (sarcasm)... especially after the bastards finally finished my other longing... Children of an Elder God.

Right before the massive attack on the police station.
Wynneth considers just killing the people that have the body at the moment.
The Voice goes crazy.

No. When Wynneth tried to command her wraiths to kill Mamoru and Yusaku (when they were driving with the body back to the morgue), the Voice wouldn't let her. It was so that there'd be no connection between the vampire case (and wraiths) and Dasma's Order (the body is darkmistress' late mother - turned) for the Senshi to discover.

That was the line of reasoning that it used on her. But they discovered it anyway. I doubt that the Voice is totally incompetent like that.

And it's really not. During the raid Mamoru could've died several times (and almost did once, only to be saved by Sailor M... pardon me, by Tuxedo Mask) - so I don't think that the Voice's strategy was to spare him from death. And, ironically, it was him who'd bring Rei splinters from Cyrie's coffin, which would point towards Wynneth's involvement (discovering bodies in the Shadow is such a stroke of good luck that really couldn't have been anticipated). The Voice and Wynneth couldn't have predicted that Mars would be able to sense them that way.

And, when they did discover that connection, it was too late to change anything. Dasma's priestesses wouldn't believe them anyway (and they didn't). So this whole affair at the police station was just overcautiousness on the Voice's part, just a ploy to give Wynneth more time - and in that, it worked quite well.

Does anyone think that, going by the latest chapter, either the author decided to drop the whole "Mamoru getting mauled by succubus" storyline entirely, or that Mamoru's just repressed the hell out of that experience?

Someone should really make a TV tropes page for this fic. I know that there is a lot references to it on other pages but OACDYCSF doesn't have it's own page.

what are the requirements for getting a tv tropes entry? I'm mentioned once... in the top 100 posters list.
