Uh dude, ya might wanna back off from that, you're gonna start a verbal bloodbath here.
Since I am from/live in California, I will take your kind advice, sir. ^_^

Remember that Randy Quaid quote from Days of Thunder - If you're from California, you're not a Yankee. You're not really anything. ;)

What's the Problem with Alabama? I live in Georgia about two counties away from the State border from there.
There's just no curing Alabaman - the only thing worse is if he'd been born and raised in California!
You shut your whore mouth.
You guys voted the Governator into office.

Nuff said.
Well, they didn't have a choice. The version of him that lost sent back robot clones to kill the parents of those who would beat him...

Hey Brian Boru, what if Shinji was renamed with one of the following names?

George Patton
Stonewall Jackson
Simon Bolivar Buckner
Jefferson Davis
Robert E. Lee
Nathaniel Bedford Forest

Oh and Jomasten, this is TFF. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Oddly, every time I see this thread, I am reminded of the two stories I've read that would seem to come closest to this, though neither match it.

The first regrettibly is no longer available on-line, but had Shinji living as a hermit in a small cabin with a trusty shotgun and just wanted to be left alone.

The second is:
NGE 'Walking Home' by Legato Deathscythe - [Dld Date=04/04/2009] - [Dld Size=15kb] - [Status=Inactive]

I don't know why, but when I saw this thread, I thought of Shinji ending up like Tallahassee from Zombieland.

"Misato, stop!"

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERT!

"What!? What is it!?"

Shinji jumps out of the car and runs to the back. Misato pops the trunk when he motions. After a little digging, he comes up with... a shovel? Shinji runs back a few yards, scoops down, and comes up with... a dead possum. Misato sits in complete shock until he stows it somewhere in the back, closes the trunk, and gets back in the car. She mechanically starts driving again. After a few miles he delayed reaction finally kicks in.

"What the hell was that!?"

"What was what?"

"The possum! Why? What? Who?"

Shinji gives her a quizzical look, as though not quite understanding the question. "Well, I thought my new roomie might like to sample my world-famous roadkill stew tonight."

"What."

~~~
Misato looked at the stew dubiously, uncertain of the cloudy liquid with unidentifiable chunks floating around in it. She finally mustered her courage and took up her weapon (a hand-carved wooden spoon,) before slowly lifting a steaming mouthful, blowing on it to cool it off, and taking it all in one bite.
Chew. Chew chew. Chew.
"Wut da hew." Misato stated around her mouthful, then quickly swallowing, "This is one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten."
"I told ya it's world-famous."
Misato just dug in and wondered how she could prank Ritsuko with it, because she was sure there was a way to do it.
This idea has much merit. I am somewhat biased in my opinion of said idea though...
I suddenly get the mental image of Shinji painting on a black "3" on the sides of Misato's car. She would probably not get why the boy is desecrating her precious car. Also, I would expect Shinji to be able to fix anything with either Duct Tape or WD40, like a good number of my Southerner friends. Oh, and he could himself surprisingly good at the slaying of an errant God's Messengers, instead of the ravenous undead hordes.
One note: Recall that the world's water levels rose and how the inland water flows would be affected. Additionally, take heed of the fact that much of Florida is both not a part of the South and that most of it would be submerged. Thank the gods, no more Miami.
(That last comment was not made to offend anyone from Miami. I just dislike the city in general. Its people can be nice.)
Well the Idea was that the Daniels clan was from the Appalachians, Tennessee specifically. So while the coast may be closer its not that affected.
While "Ike" is a decent abbreviation for "Ikari," I don't think your stereotypical Southern Hillbillies would give a kid a nickname like that due to some lingering dislike from the forced beginnings of Integration in the schools which happened only because of "Ike" Eisenhower sending in federal troops to make Southern schools integrate.
For Shinji to get nickname like "Ike," it would require a decent explanation for how it came about.
Food for thought.
Maybe they're more foward thinking than the average hillbilly clan?
@Brain Boru: That works.
@DarthStumpy: I'm not really sure how those two phrases go together...I mean, I know a few people that fit both descriptions, but yeah...
Hmm,...
Eureka I got it!
Ikari could get shortened to 'Eek'.
Then to make it like a real name change it to Zeke (though that is the shortened version of Ezekiel which is awkward).
How does that sound?
Or one with more military connections.
