After 50 years it looks like Marvel has decided that Spider-Man need a sidekick. His name is "Alpha".

Andy Macguire was a normal outcast kid on a normal school trip to a lab where Peter Parker works but there was a accident and now Andy has super power. Feel responsible about what happen Peter take him under his own wing.

I don't know what to say about this but

How much do you want to bet that he his arc nemesis is going to be called "Omega".

If this Alpha kid acts like the Robin to Spidey's Batman, then Fail.

But if it's more of a Spider-mentor kinda deal, where Spidey's showing him the ropes, then that's not that bad.

I read the preview for it and am cautiously optimistic. The sidekick character Andy Macguire, though his name be an amalgamation of Andrew Garfield and Toby Macguire reminds fans of early Peter...but not. He's not a genius and is the average ignored kid. Not popular nor unpopular. One lab accident later and Peter is trying to teach the kid the lesson he learned without the tragedy, I assume.

Its something new and while not my preferred character, Anya (Spider-Girl), as a the sidekick, I've liked Slott's run so far and am willing to give it a shot so long as the kid doesn't shove Spidey's ongoing stuff to the side too much.

Also I demand FlashVenom get some face time with Spidey. Sure Flash and Kaine will have an awesome teamup in Minimum Carnage, but I'd love to see Spidey forced to accept the symbiote as an 'ally' and hate every minute of it.

I lol'd at the comments made on the IGN post.

Yeah, I really don't see this lasting very long, either. Reading the intro story, it's like they worked too hard on trying to make Andy the Not-Peter character while he still retains Peter's core "loser" vibe.

Hearing the idea doesn't make me feel good.

But reading the preview does give me a good feeling about this.

Plus, the fact that it seems the kid is not going to have Spider-Powers judging by the art.

Just makes me think Speedball for some reason.

Have to agree with the IGN thread really.

Alpha: I'm gonna be your new sidekick Spiderman Isn't that great!

Spiderman : Hurray, a new source of angst has entered my life. Have you tried Batman I hear he needs a new Robin.

Wait a minute. He's a blonde, blue eyed, Caucasian hero. Damn those racist bastards at Marvel.

So Peter suddenly mentors the Mutant Messiah, his black doppelganger from another universe and some random kid from god no where.

Why is he ignoring Spider-Girl?I mean, she's just a young inexperienced superheroine with the same powers as him and who recently lost her father.
