Star Wars Question

#1
Okay, I'm a little scared to ask this, but in the interest of SOME accuracy, I want to know any facts I can get, even if I won't limit myself with them.

First off, I want to know details about the 'Valley of the Jedi' or places like it, 'force focal points' and the like. I heard about it while playing the beginning of one of the games, Jedi Knight II or something...

Secondly, strange things done with the force by the super-powerful. I once heard something(from a somewhat less than reliable source) about some Sith obliterating the rest of Yoda's race, and I think it might be related. Things on that scale.

So, Star Wars nuts of this forum, what say ye?

Don't try to hide, I know you're there... :ph43r:

I once read that Palpatine used a Force Storm so powerful it warped space. It traveled interplanetary distances as well. I think. I do know that when Exar Kun was defeated an entire planet became uninhabitable. That was mostly Kun's power. Jacen Solo can manipulate time.

Okay then, I wasn't too far off base with what I was thinking...

So, according to all that, it should be possible to alter the genetic makeup of an entire race(not a huge population, enough to fit comfortably on a single planet) with the force, right?

While I'm talking about Star Wars (and waiting on the answer to the other question) what do you guys think about them trying to make Jedi orthodox among religions? I understand they're trying to...

Well, Palpatine could take over clones, and he was capapble of possessing his own servants. It's also rumored that he impregnated Vader's mother through the force. Creating life out of nothing. Altering an entire population on the genetic level might be possible, but the knowledge is probably lost. You need to remember that the ancient Sith could do things that the current ones could even dream of. For example, the ancient Sith could make metal swords that could match lightsabers.

If you want more help you might want to move this thread to the movie section, where it belongs.

Well, the fact is, the event WAS ancient... Pre-Yoda even maybe. I don't pretend to know everything that happened by then, but I think this event and the people would be flying under the radar after a long enough time period... especially considering how they handled it and the eventual closing of their borders...

Of course, for the important character, who is only average strength force-wise among Sith (of the time around and shortly after Yoda took over running the Temple... how long ago was that anyway?) They'll need some kind of force-wellspring or other advantage to further manipulate their own genetics.

The Sith and the Jedi are ancient. The KotR series takes place four thousand years before the movies. The Republic was, I think, something like sixteen thousand years old, and the Jedi were founded at the same time. Plus I think that the Sithari, the species that were the true Sith, may have preceeded the Jedi. Also, certain force artifacts, like the Star Forge, use and gather tremendous amounts of force energy by themselves.

Star Forge, huh? Did anything like that get mysteriously lost or 'supposedly' destroyed? Where an enterprising force-user might spot it floating hidden in space?

Only the ones I've already asked...

To answer some questions regarding Valley of the Jedi click the link.

In regards to Yoda's race George Lucas has been determined to keep all information regarding such, completely unknown.

Secondly, strange things done with the force by the super-powerful. I once heard something(from a somewhat less than reliable source) about some Sith obliterating the rest of Yoda's race, and I think it might be related. Things on that scale.
The only thing I know about is Exar Kun. That's the only instance of mass genocide that I remember.

I once read that Palpatine used a Force Storm so powerful it warped space. It traveled interplanetary distances as well. I think.
Correct it was done by Palpatine, however he could barely control it. Not to mention ther are other types of Force Storms

Well, Palpatine could take over clones, and he was capapble of possessing his own servants.
True to an extant, Palpatine took over his own clone bodies, and as for possessing his own servants it actually was battle meditation.

If you have more questions I'll see what I can find out for you.

The Valley of the Jedi is a Force Well, there are a few of them that are known (One of them is under the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and is frightnely potent and is used in the NJO era in the infiltration of Coruscant mission by Luke and I think Mara to basically be able to enhanse their talents to Matrix like levels

Your welcome. The closest date to your question in Yoda's profile is that he went to Coruscant to join the council when he was 700, after the Chu'unthor crashed.

this incredibly aged Jedi Master was regarded as one of the primary leaders of the Jedi Council, in the decades leading up the to fall of the Old Republic. Along with Mace Windu and Ki-Adi-Mundi, the 860-year-old Yoda was a strong voice in the Council's decisions. A master of appearing old and frail, Yoda was an expert swordsbeing and teacher. He attained the rank of Jedi Master at a meer 100 years of age. More than 100 years before the Battle of Naboo, Yoda served as one of the Jedi Masters working aboard the Chu'unthor before it was lost on Dathomir. 700 years old at the time, Yoda returned to Coruscant in defeat, and resolved to spent his time on the Jedi Council, guiding the Jedi Order with the help of the Force. He never revealed his race or homeworld, preferring to maintain an air of mystery. Like many other Jedi Masters, Yoda continued to teach while sitting on the Council, and was responsible for the early training of Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, when Qui-Gin Jinn brought nine-year-old Anakin Skywalker before the Council, Yoda was one of the few who voted not to train the boy. He was overruled, and Obi-Wan Kenobi was appointed the boy's master. A decade passed, and Yoda became increasingly aware of the presence of the Dark Side of the Force in the galaxy. However, he underestimated its strength, and the Jedi Council was blinded to the creation of a clone army on the planet Kamino. When the Separatists - led by one of Yoda's former Padawans, Count Dooku - rose up on Geonosis, Yoda was asked to take command of the clone troopers and answer the Separatist threat. Although he managed to save a handful of Jedi and defeat the Separatists' droid armies, Yoda was unable to prevent Dooku's escape. Like other Jedi Masters of the time, Yoda agreed to take up the role of a military General, and led several missions for the Old Republic, most notably to Vjun and Kashyyyk. However, Yoda - like the rest of the Jedi Council - failed to locate Darth Sidious before it was too late. When Chancellor Palpatine revealed that he was the Sith Lord, he moved swiftly to eliminate as many Jedi as he could. Yoda managed to escape Kashyyyk, only to learn from Obi-Wan and Bail Organa that the Jedi had been outlawed. Yoda tried to confront Darth Sidious back on Coruscant, but came to realize that he was totally unprepared for the Sith's power. Yoda also realized that the Jedi Order had been preparing to meet a possible Sith threat based on information from the Battle of Ruusan, a thousand years earlier. Instead, the Sith had been adapting to the changes of the galaxy, and the Jedi had become arrogant enough to believe that the old ways were the only ways to handle things. Thus, any actions the Jedi Council could have taken against Sidious would have been - and, ultimately were - utterly useless. Rather than fight Palpatine and surely die, Yoda chose to flee Coruscant and fight back in other ways. On Polis Massa, he was visited by the spirit of Qui-Gon Jinn, who had somehow discovered the ancient teachings of the Whills and learned to affect the real world even in death. Qui-Gon then offered Yoda the chance to learn the techniques, and Yoda gratefully agreed to become Qui-Gon's apprentice. Yoda later learned of the birth of Padme' Amidala Skywalker's twins, and decided with Obi-Wan to separate them and place them in hiding. The two surviving Jedi hoped that the children would one day be strong enough to oppose Palpatine. Yoda then fled to Dagobah in hopes of eluding the Jedi purge by hiding among the intense life-force of the creatures there. He remained on Dagobah, and was eventually caught up in the Dark Jedi rebellion that engulfed Bpfassh as he was forced to destroy their leader when they fled to Dagobah. A period of relative tranquility passed for Yoda, until the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi directed Luke Skywalker to seek out the old Jedi Master. When Luke discovers him on Dagobah, following the Battle of Hoth, Yoda is almost 900 years old, and appears as a dimuntive elf-like creature with greenish-blue skin, wide eyes, and large pointed ears. He speaks in an archaic form of Basic. He claims to have watched over Luke's development for as long as Luke has been alive, not knowing if he would be able to train Luke or not, for he and Obi-Wan Kenobi realized that Luke might be the last of the Jedi Knights. Yoda took part in the events on Dathomir, along with the Jedi Masters Gra'aton and Vulatan, and foretold that the last of the Jedi Knights would someday come and defeat the Nightsisters. This would mark the end of the world as the witches knew it, and reshape their lives in profound ways. The Jedi Knight Yoda saw as Luke Skywalker. Yoda also foretold that Luke would be able to reveal the secret of the hundreds of reader disks that the Jedi kept with the witches of the Light Side (passed down to Rell), and that he would share them with the Dathomir witches.

Hm, interesting... thanks. Plenty of time if it was 160 years before the events of the movies began. Thanks.

Aa. You mean this 'flow walk' thing of his I'm hearing about? What does it DO exactly? Is it 'real' time travel or just some form of postcognition?

Smart ass :p

Actually, that was just because I see how some of the other star wars discussions floating around go... scary...

So yeah, feel free. Until I have another one I can't answer/am too lazy to look up.

I'm not sure if everything has been mentioned but here goes.

Among lightsiders the Jedi had some of the strongest techniques, for example in Dark Empire Luke, Leia andher unborn child linked through the Force to cut off Palpatine's connection to the Dark Side long enough for him to lose control of his Force Storm.

Another technique, lost to the ages it seems (only used once in Tales of the Old Republic: Sith War), is one that allows a lightsider to cut off the connection of a darksider to the Force while the taint of the Dark Side remains with them. It was not widely learned because of the sheer cruelty of doing that to someone. It is far kinder to kill them or leave them stranded on a deserted planet with no way of escape untill they either die or repent.

Then there is battle meditation in which a Force-user (anyone can learn this) imboldens his troops with confidence and crushes the enemies will to fight, improving your performance and cohesion while leaving the enemy panicy and confused.

Now as for the Dark Side... the Sith are top of the heap. When the Sith first formed their empire (25,000 years before the movies) they were worshiped as gods. That combined with the natural competitiveness of darksiders and their axiomatic craving of power for its own sake and you can guess what they spent their time developing. That they are the only group of darksiders that have become cohesive enough to build up a full tradition and culture also helps them. It is why the secrets of Sith magic are highly prized by all darksiders, because Sith magic is exactly that magic. Of course a few non-Sith have shown what a skilled darksider can achieve.

First off, destruction. The Dark Side is repleat with techniques to kill things and break stuff. This includes items, rituals and at least one technique with a nasty side effect. I'll start with the powers. In addition to the normal techniques a well trained Sith lord can unleash waves of raw Dark Side energy to destroy things. Darth Bane used this during his fight with the swordmaster of the Brotherhood of Darkness, the guy who taught him the lightsaber (see the novel Star Wars: Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, I highly recomend it). During that fight the blast missed but it did destroy the Sith temple behind him.

Next is the Force storm, by leashing ones hatered to their indomidable will one can tear asunder the fabric of time and space, allowing the raw energy of the Dark Side to pour through into a storm of absolute annihilation directed by the mind of the creator. Though if he loses control the storm will hunt him down relentlessly and kill him before dissapating. While cool and impressive this might not be the technique to use to gloat at your enemies.

Now items, the ancient Sith created amulets and talismen with a variety of effects (not all destructive), including one that could unleash the wearer's rage as blasts of destructive power. Exar Kun had one of those. Also there were focusing chambers and meditation chambers to increase the effect of ones powers or help them channel more Force energy. Another item was installed in the ancient Sith battleships and allowed the commanding Sith to greatly enhance his Force powers. With this the Dark Lord Naga Sadow destroyed pursuing Republic vessels by tearing out the heart of a binary sun and using it to destroy his pursuers. It also causes tageted suns to go nova. :flameon:

Then there is mind control. The Jedi don't delve too deep into this field because it is naturally Dark Side territory. This is why they work best on the weak minded. With the Dark Side you can shatter even the strongest of minds with the know-how. In the Thrawn trilogy Jurous C'boath, Dark Jedi Master, completely rewrote the minds and personalities of some minions and performed an act of mind control on a very strong minded individual, Captain (later Grand Admiral) Palleon. Also the Sith created ways to control electronic devices with the Force and even literally tear knowledge out of a person's head for your own use.

Next, cool stuff. the Emperor was among the few who knew how to transfer his life essance, destroying the soul that resided within if there way one. This technique works best on mind-blank clones. Since failure means death most take all the precautions they can. Other Sith like Sith Lord Simus bound his soul to his severed head, carried around by a slave, another bound his spirit to his corpse and yet another bound his soul to his armor. Immortality is a much desired ability. A Dark Jedi in one of the books enhanced/increased his powers by draining the life forces of entire populations he killed at a time. The Sith also mastered the arts of alchemy, which have since descended to other darksiders, creating monsters called Sithspawn as well as alchemicly enhanced armor, ancient droids and Sith swords.

Finally the Dark Lord Exar Kun, in the Sith War series, stormed the Republic Senate as they were trying his ally, the Sith Lord Ulic Qel-Droma, released him while freezing the entire Senate and their guards in place, forced the leader of the Republic to speak his decleration of war on the Republic, complete with illusions to illustrate his point and dualled his former Jedi Master to the death before leaving.

Don't forget Darth Nihilus' ability to strip entire planets bare of the Force, killing all life, be it plant, animal, or sentient being, and using the acquired Force energy to sustain himself. There's a reason he was called 'Lord of Hunger'.

As a dissenting opinion, I can't say as I like the Expanded Universe very much. The hyperinflated power levels of the EU Force Users, and the inflation of the canon characters' abilities, reeks of munchkinning. I think the Force was a lot more interesting when the Jedi or Dark Side users were at the low power-levels of the original three movies (read: not "Special Editions").
