Naruto Sub-Plot Thread

Decided to create this after a brief mention in the misc thread. Rather than a thread for gathering story ideas, this is a place for ideas that aren't meant to have an entire fic based around them. The smaller ideas that spice up fiction such as having divergences occur prior to the main storyline, making characters who've never met interact, playing around with personalities etc.

A few examples:

- A Naruto who embodies the trope of <a href='http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DissonantSerenity' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>Dissonant Serenity</a>. Being forced to raise himself in a society with a skewed moral compass while surrounded by people who hate him teaches him to deal with the bad things that happened with a smile on his face. Including the bloody battles he gets involved in as a result of his career choice which has the habit of unnerving both allies and enemies.

- After hearing that Kimimaro was dead, Juugo goes on a rampage and breaks free of his prison while leaving a path of destruction in his wake. When he comes to, he finds himself in the care of wandering monk who tells him to seek aid at the Fire Temple. Juugo goes there in hope of controlling his murderous urges and he begins to study under the ninja monks who train his body and mind.

- Once Sakura breaks off their friendship, Ino finds herself getting closer to the other shy girl in class, Hinata. Her outgoing personality and inclination to help results in her trying to coax Hinata out of her bubble of shyness and low self-esteem and they end up developing an interesting friendship.

So something that like. You could turn these into a fic if you were willing but they're ideas that are better suited to being a part of one rather than the focus. Have a go.

Kinda reminds me of a character from David Farland's "Runelord" series. Can't remember his name right now, but during battles, the guy starts laughing without realising it(I think, it's been quite a bit of time snce I've read it). Scares the crap out of most people.

More ideas:

- Haku survives Kakashi's blow thanks to his armoured vest and instinctual use of Hyouton that put him in a near death state. When hunter-nin raid his and Zabuza's grave to burn their bodies, he awakens and escapes/takes them out of commission.

- In the aftermath of the Sasuke Retrieval mission, the bodies of the S5 are brought to Konoha to be studied. Tayuya's summons, Kidoumaru's spider hijutsu, Sakon/Ukon and Kimimaro's kekkei genkai are all studied and dissected. I though it'd be interested if Ino learns some of Kidoumaru's skills to broaden her abilities.

- Rock Lee chooses to specialise in kenjutsu instead of taijutsu pre-canon.

Something I have been wanting to read for a while now: A fic that takes the idea of Anko's hobby being tea ceremonies and running with the idea.

Anko having a tea ceremony with her snakes would be so adorable. I'm imagining the snakes wearing top hats & monocles and/or frilly little dresses, and she gives them all silly nicknames. It's a hobby she developed to deal with the stress when studying under Orochimaru and she never grew out of it.

I could see her doing that sort of thing as well. I could also see her having one of the snakes in a dress being called Mr. Slinky.

Have the other ninja feeling pity for the snakes, while the snakes actually enjoy them and have taught the art to Anko(Toads->Yakuza, Slugs->Drugs, Snake->High Class and Mature) for maximum hilarity

Take this three steps further and have them form the Broship of Konoha or something or another as they bro-bro their way through every enemy that comes at them and their bro-fist is able to shatter steel.

Though I have seen the friendship-by-proxy thing in one fic (they pulled some epic prank, and Naruto had the date of it memorialized onto a ramen cup, which Ino thoughtlessly threw away in her quest to steal Naruto's money for clothing).

Let's see.... subplots...

Kin and Zaku learn of Orochimaru's plot to turn them into living sacrifices for Edo Tensei, prompting them to attempt to defect to Konoha before they're killed.... or worse.

The Aburame clan have the entirety of Konoha bugged, literally, and learn many secrets that could change fate and destiny of the entire land.

Kakashi is accidentally reversed summoned by his nindogs, who don't have a way to send him back, while Team 7, before timeskip, are stuck neck-deep outside of Konoha on a simple escort mission that has went seriously wrong and have to go it alone or get killed.

Bizarre how I can remember the exact title of that fic. I don't think I even read beyond the first four or five chapters.

The word bro-bro reminds me too much of yo-yo. Which makes me think of them doing some sort of frat version of yo-yo tricks with each other being the yo-yo (especially Choji).

Thanks to your mention about yo-yos, I have an image in my head now of Kankuro joining the Broship and using his chakra strings attached to Kiba so Kiba goes on his drill spiral attack thingamajig, connects, gets pulled back by chakra strings, then goes for another attack.

That would be awesome.

I could actually see them doing something like that during the war post time skip. Team up and use different tactics the enemy would never have thought would be used due to the base idea being stupid. The idea ends up being so stupid it works brilliantly.

I think a yo-yo combo attack would work better with Chouji since his jutsu is actually a spinning ball, Kiba's is a drill which wouldn't work for that.

Depends on what you are going for. Penetration would be best with a drill. I would suggest Kankuro use both. Kiba to create an opening for Choji to get inside of/behind the enemy's line. Then follow up with Kiba in other areas to strategically create openings for other people to get into the enemies defense and more effectively wreck it.

That would work better with Gatenga than with Gatsuuga.
Which means Kiba actually bother his mother to learn said jutsu because its Brotastic Level is Maximum

If you're talking about the attack he uses on Jirobo, that is literally a punch, so it would be the Brofist of Death I guess.

I was talking about Human Bullet Tank, that's a spinning sphere attack so it would work better than Kiba's drill attack as a "yo-yo combo" jutsu.

But ankokudaishogun is totally right, Kiba's sister's Gatenga jutsu is way better cause it's a frikkin' buzz saw! If Kiba learned that jutsu and Kankuro grabbed him with chakra threads they could totally fight using some wicked yo-yo tricks.
