Got this idea just yesterday evening ( morning today, whatever... 
) after an intense Civ4-session.
Though Civ4 has nothing at all to do with the idea and I have no idea of where it came from.
Anyhew, this notion that came from me outta nowhere caused me to start yet another new fic and for once, the title came to me pretty much instantly.
Harry is exposed to a nasty old spell that has been banned since 1485. I haven't decided yet if he's exposed to it because Voldie tries to use it on him, or if he simply picks it up from some rare book or something of the sort.
Anyhew, the spell in question was originally used to better endure the elements, by allowing the caster to take on certain properties from whatever was targetet. Cast the spell on fire, to better endure cold temperatures. Cast the spell on water, to better withstand a fire. Cast the spell on ice, to better endure extremly hot temperatures. Shit like that.
Anyways, when it's discovered quite by accident, that the spell will completely and utterly destroy any living creature it's used on, permanently giving the caster some traits from the target, as well as most of the targets memories, it's instantly banned and since long thought forgotten.
Enter Harry Potter who learns of it. Either from Voldie trying ( and failing ) to use it on him, or from reading about it in some ancient tome or something.
A Harry who uses it as a last-ditch effort to save his life when nothing else works against some extremly well-shielded opponent and he can't summon up the hatred necessary to successfully use either the cruciatus or the killing curse.
Haven't quite decided who the first target will be either, as the entire thing is still just an idea at this point.
Though I do have a few probable candidates...
Lucius Malfoy
Draco Malfoy
Narcissa Malfoy
Rudolphus Lestrange
Bellatrix Lestrange
Theodore Nott
Crabbe or Goyle, either junior or senior
Anyhew, whomever he absorbs is leaving an imprint of themselves on Harry as they croak, an imprint which slowly is beginning to change/corrupt Harry as well as giving him habits and quirks from the victims of this nasty spell.
My perverted mind instantly desires to use Lucius Malfoy and/or Rudolphus Lestrange, if for nothing else that this gives Harry a legitimate reason to lust over Narcissa and/or Bellatrix while slowly becomming dark. But what the heck, I've already got several of those kind of fics in the works, so I'm rather reluctant to go down that road again.
Draco could be interesting, especially if Harry were to come up against Lucius at some later point, finding himself conflicted between his own desires to fight the bastard and Draco's desires to make his father proud of him.
Nott, Crabbe and/or Goyle ( the seniors ) could be interesting. Both because their evilness will corrupt Harry and because it'd be fun if he started acting fatherly towards their offspring.
