Naruto The Crumbling Leaf

The same goes for his heirs, Suna would literally have to ensure that the government would be in no condition to try and revive Konoha.
actually, destroying Konoha would mean Suna would either get more missions(those Konoha couldn't do anymore) or get really messed up with the Daimyō disowning the village for acting beyond their boundaries or some shit and either going freelance or declaring a different village as their "official" village.
This even with the Fire Daimyō rebuilding the village: it would take A LOT of time to rebuild the village as strong as it was.
If they were, what was stopping Suna from simply killing their Daimyo and taking control instead of going after Konoha?
Narutoverse Ninjas aren't known to be good at making killing appear like accidents. Most likely they actually try to make the killing as flashing as possible, to attract more costumers.
And killing your boss is not a good way to get more costumers.

Most likely disowning them revoking any support the village was receiving. It might sound like Suna would receive missions if Konoha was out of the way, but the moment after the invasion would be the start of a political nightmare for both the village and the Daimyo.

To the same level, yes, I agree that it would take time. Rebuilding it to the level that it could operate? All the Daimyo would do is 'recruit' ninja from outside Konoha. If Tea's Daimyo was willing to allow Orochimaru to start an official village in his country, I doubt the Fire's Daimyo would hesitate to recruit missing-nins if he had to.

The Daimyo was the one that put the village in the straights it's in. By ensuring his death and that a 'suitable' one takes the throne would goes some distance to the repairing of the village's situation.
As for making killings look like accidents? It would be better if it didn't, only making sure it looked like Suna didn't do it.

A criminal invades and some high ranking politicians die. I know who'd the survivors would blame, especially since Sound basically can't fight back.

Yes, they would blame the fucker who GOT PAID to protect them. You know, the same fuckers the criminals were attacking in first place.

...umm, Kohona isn't getting paid for their protection. The high ranking people bring their own bodyguards, as I remember in the anime that one Daimyo sent his in an attempt to intimidate Gaara.

at very least they were CHARGED with the general security of the audience, being the, organizer, host village and all.

Let's say Chile was hosting the Olympics, and a country decided to use the Olympics as the first strike in a war.

Is Chile to be blamed for not protecting the audience completely against a surprise attack?

No. The very idea is stupid.

I agree, they were charged with general security of the audience, which meant basic security that you would see at any sporting event today and not protection from a full blown invasion. Shirotsume already gave an example solid enough that I doubt I can do better.

You need to remember what the lords were like. They mainly care about their own comfort. Killing the mastermind and putting a ninja village in it's place would both be cheaper and would ease their peace of mind. Starting a major war would be too much of a bother for most of them. They might even hire the Akatsuki to do it.

you are also forgetting villages are MERCENARY organizations, selling themselves as competent and more powerful than the competition.
Getting invaded pretty much show their abilities aren't that good, and losing is even worse.

Competence doesn't come into play here. The village itself was invaded, so losing rep isn't the worse that can happen if they lost. Losing would mean that the village won't need to worry about rep for a long time.

You would need far more of a divergence than discussed to make this ever work.

Authorial fiat can only cover so much before someone just gets sick of you shoehorning things.
