Just a little spin I thought up.

As Ichigo lies bleeding in the street from Byakukyas attack(sp?), Isshin's senses it. He forces himself from his body, a Gigai, his reiatsu flooding back into him, and races to his sons rescue.

The rest is yours. I just think this would make a pretty hardcore fic. Isshin coming out of retirement to help and train Ichigo.

Hell, instead of Isshin, how about Ryuuken? Renji kills Ishida (or almost), and Ryuuken notices. Cue major flipout. He shows up in the middle or near the end of the Igigo-Renji fight. Byakuka and Renji both have limiters on. It takes a long time to get permission to remove them. They are fighting someone who can kill two Menos in around 10 to 20 seconds.

Even with the limit on Byakuya could take on menos easily. But Ryuuken would probably win. On the other hand, if a Ryuuken did do that the brass would notice, and the Ishida's would be hunted down. What he would do is take his son out of the line of fire without drawing attention to himself.
