Big armored dude with long dark hair, goatee, and at first glance what looked like dreads.

First thing that comes to mind:

Granted, however Thorin looks to be cooler by several orders of magnitude.

I am definitely looking forward to this movie. I will probably even go see it in an actual theater. When does it get released?

Heh that depends on how many disasters happen from now and until the movie actually gets released.

..I know it's been years since I read the Hobbit..

But when the fuck was Legolas and Frodo in the Hobbit?

They weren't. Frodo wasn't even born when "The Hobbit" took place.

Legolas theoretically could be in the Hobbit. His father was the Elf King who held the dwarfs prisoner in Mirkwood. As such he could potentially have been present (if not doing anything of note) during the time they were locked up in Thranduil's dungeon. He could also have been in his father's forces during the Battle of Five Armies.

True. Frodo, OTOH, would only be able to participate in an epilogue, or a framing story, with Bilbo telling him of his adventures.

Also quite true. At the time of The Hobbit, Frodo would be -27.

I'm see it day 1 pumped right now. So, so much. I'd even consider popping in the game I rather enjoyed many years ago if I weren't still in the middle of Rogue Galaxy.

Oh I'm super pumped, but not Better than Pirate Ships in Space Pumped.

Sorry to necro, but I have to point out that in the beginning of the trailer it appears that Bilbo is narrating to Frodo several decades after his adventure, so having Frodo make a short cameo in the movie wouldn't be too bad. Legolas on the other hand...yeah, it's probably just a short cameo as well, but it makes sense because, like Bissek said, he's the Prince of Mirkwood.

Oh yes, and I am going to totally buy the soundtrack, if just for The Songs. That was probably the best part of the trailer.

Well, Frodo being just in the framing story is perfectly alright.

Was it the elves of Mirkwood that came to the Battle of Five Armies? If so, it's not unreasonable for Legolas to have more than just a cameo, as long as he doesn't have a big role.

O_O This guy is a... troll... right? right? Because if he isn't... Well... I hope a real troll finds you and bashes your skull in.

Really.

My Mom made me read The Hobbit when I was fourteen and I loved it. I...I...don't have the words to describe my utter hatred of you.
