Here's a rather strange idea that I had and thought somebody might find intresting.

Do to a screw up in heaven or perhaps the intervention of the Phantom Stranger, instead of going straight to hell (and into the First of the Fallen's hands) John Constantine instead ends up in Hpverse as the guardian angel of a newborn Harry Potter. Events still go the same such as the Peter's betrayal and Harry ending up with the Durselys. However having been struck by the death curse has left Harry capable of seeing John... Where this would go after that is up to anyone who feels like writing it.

John does care somewhat about Harry partly because he's been around him since he was a baby but mainly do to the fact that the longer that Harry's alive the longer that he has to try and figure out a way to stay out of hell and away from the First of the Fallen.

Unfortunately do to the number of entities that John managed to piss off during his former life have made Voldemort and his supporters the least of John and Harry's problems. Both heaven and hell would love to have his head on a plate and if it meant that innocent child had to die... well sacrifices have to be made sometimes.

Hooo boy...I'm not sure the Potter-verse is ready for the shit storm that is Constantine and his world. It would eat them all and shit them back out without even noticing. Not a damn clue who the Phantom Stranger is, but then I'm missing several books from Hellblazer (as well as the Books of Magic; anyone else notice that Tim Hunter looks a helluva lot like Harry? Yet another reason for John to perhaps help him out somewhat, rather than meandering off to do his own thing)

Can't really think of anything to offer for a plot direction (though the idea of Harry actually being some sorta shade of Tim comes to mind, but no idea where that would go) but I'm damn interested in where this might lead *goes off to read his Hellblazer collection yet again*

Actually, Harry Potter looks like Tim Hunter, since Books of Magic predate any Harry Potter books, if I remeber correctly. I remember reading somwhere that Harry Potter is "heavily inspired" (read "total rip-off") by Tim Hunter, both in looks and in the early personality only without grittier and darker aspects of Books of Magic.

Hmm, I definitely like this idea and proclaim it as being a WIN, though I imagine you're plot would really just be Harry growing up with a bit darker, grittier outlook on life and having to deal with the occasional angel/demon attempt on his life.

Well the Hpverse wizards have a small advantage in that while their magic is nowhere near the levels of the DCverse it is more moldable.

The Phantom Stranger is that guy who often shows up in a trench coat and hat that shadows his face and tends to offer John vague hints and clues to whatever is going on at the time. No one knows what he is although the most commonly believed theory is that he was once an angel, but after refusing to either rebel with Lucifer or fight on the side of the Host, he was then rejected by both.

As for why John didn't wonder off to do his thing keep in mind that its his new job as a guardian angel that's keeping him out of hell given how after causing Gabe's fall and then going and hacking his wings off with a chainsaw has pretty much made it impossible for him to get into heaven. Something that makes sure that John will do his utter best to keep Harry alive and safe.

Thanks. This is something that I'm throwing out for anyone who wants it; as the story itself keep in mind that John's two main goals would probably be 1) to find away to come back to life or tie himself to the mortal plane and 2) keep Harry alive and well something that'll make several of Dumbledore's plans go down the drain. Although I would prefer if it did branch off from cannon unlike so many of those other fics that start around the time that Harry gets sorted.

Actually, they keep giving the Stranger an origin, but then retcon it into something else.

I remember reading one where the Stranger was actually the Wandering Jew, condemed to wander the mortal plane until Judgement Day, for cursing Christ just prior to the Crucifixion. His magical powers were explained away as being magic he learned in his attempt to break the curse.

The neutral angel bit is just the most recent origin they've given him.
