Harry Potter The "Line theft" fanon

I was going through Corwalch's <a href='http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4816968/1/' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>"Do Not Meddle In The Affairs Of Wizards"</a> today and was struck by a moment of curiosity.

In Harry Potter fanfic, the fanon concept of 'Line Theft' crops up semi-regularly. As part of the whole body of fanon that has sprung up around Ancient and Noble Houses, wizarding pureblood aristocracy, etc, etc., is the notion that its considered a very grave crime to interfere with a pureblood house's attempt to ensure heirs for the next generation, making it a crime on the same level as murder or rape to try and love potion someone into marrying your daughter instead of someone else's, or using magical means to inseminate a child against their will, or etc.

And so now I'm wondering; where did this particular bit of fanon originate in the first place? Which fanfic pioneered the concept?

Not a clue. I think its a justifiable concept, but I know not from whence it came.

I don't recall ever seeing it outside that fic; as such I have absolutely no idea where it originated.

Never seen this bit of fanon. Never. I've been reading HP fics since 2004 too, so I've read alot of them.

It may just be the type of fics that you read. I personally avoid crappy pureblood society focused fics because they usually suck.

Don't think I ever got past the first few chapters of that linked fic either... pretty sure it pissed me off somehow.

It probably didn't spring from HP canon/fanon. I think it is a transplant from somewhere else.

Depending on when the first story was written it might have been the result of somebody reading/watching Naruto* and going "Hey, you could do this in HP".

Voldemort's resurrection really serves as an excellent breeding ground for it. It happens in manner which might suggest it possible (Harry's blood as ingrident) with somebody who would have an motive (Voldemort against Harry's blood protection - bypassing those that way is also fanon and often also present in line theft stories).

*Either Kakashi's eye transplant or Yamato/Tenzo** might serve as an inspiration, I think.

**For those who don't know: Was a kid (out of fifty) that the resident supervillain mad scientist injected with DNA of a past legend. He survived and got the powers that made the living legend, well, a living legend.

I saw this theme in several fics, even in couple decent ones(like 'Trust is a relative thing') but it's almost always either minor part of the story.
Hmm. I think it came from period(2-3 years ago? I can't remember) when concept of family magics and bloodline traits was very popular. Then it's only one step from using concept of Inborn talents to downright zealous effort taken to preserve them. And then it's only half step to think up people who would want to get 'special powers' for themselves - hence Line theft.
On other hand a lot of.. lets just call them less then skilled 'authors' like to give Harry some kind of SuperpowerÖ and then use Voldemort's resurrection to 'steal' it(to prevent Harry from ROFL-stomping all over Tom).

Harry again gave Dumbledore a silent question with the rise of a single eyebrow. To which Dumbledore smiled benevolently down at Harry and answered, "Being the head of the Wizengamot and the ICW has its privileges. I am allowed to apparate anywhere I wish and an obliviation team follows me around when in muggle areas."
