The New Star Wars EU

Well, we have a bunch of new books on the way, and I figured we might as well start fresh. The previous thread, I suggest, be used to discuss the pre-Disney EU Era.

Four excerpts from some upcoming novels have been released on Kindle and I will present my thoughts on each. Note I am not commenting on continuity since I no longer have a firm grasp on what that is anymore.

Star Wars: A New Dawn
by John Jackson Miller

Has a comic book feel to me as far as characterization but it could be fun. 'Knight Errant' was a fun little romp (mostly) and I'm expecting about the same level of quality from this book.

Tarkin
by James Luceno

Written by the same guy who wrote "Darth Plagueis", the opening paints Tarkin as a competent military Governor that seems respected by his people. He's obviously into efficiency and I see no reason that this shouldn't be a solid book from what I've read.

Heir to the Jedi
By Kevin Hearne

A first person story that tries to get into Luke's head around the time period after a New Hope but before the Alliance's arrival on Hoth. The excerpt had some pacing issues, and some comments that threw me. (Example Luke seemed surprised that a TIE fighter didn't have Shields thinking it was an older model. Whether this is a mistake or changed continuity I can not say). I'm interested in the premsis since it's about Luke trying to understand the Force with no real guidance....but this author is kind of hit and miss with me.

Lords of The Sith
by Paul S. Kemp

Begins with Darth Vader leading a fighter assault against a stolen Imperial transport. Ends with Vader deliberately crashing his fighter into the transport to tear open a hull breach (he ejects just before impact), and then boarding the Transport through the breach with the intention of taking down the rebel crew, which numbers in the Dozens, recapturing the Imperial weapons and perhaps finding out who they were working with/for and bringing his wrath to them.

Best of the bunch at this point really.

Old EU=Lucas SW EU
New EU=Disney SW EU

Any idea if any of the old authors are making the transmition to the new EU?

All the authors listed above (except Kevin Hearne) have worked in Star Wars EU before.
