Aftermath deals with some shades of grey in the Empire—the Imperial Future Council at Akiva has a few members who were dissatisfied with the Emperor turning the Empire towards the Dark Side and outright malevolence over the years. One General, I forget her name, has a great line where she basically says “We built a planet-destroying battle station and called it the DEATH STAR. How the hell were people going to trust us!?”. On top of that, there are plenty of Imperials who rather than fight the New Republic choose to join them in bringing peace to the Galaxy instead. It gives the Empire a bit more depth than assuming they were all maniacally evil.

Imperial PR Personnel: "Oh THAT...well you know....we just needed ONE sueprweapon to deal with Outside Context problems. It's not like we'd use it on our own people....that would be crazy. Hm?....the name...well one of the Engineers jokingly coined the term during construction and it kind of stuck....truth be told we were focus testing new names when those filthy Rebels launched an unprovoked attack on a modern marvel of Engineering....

Alderaan? Ah....the Rebels have spun a very convincing lie.....one I will be happy to to inform you all about in 25 years when the records are declassified....
