I love hufflepuff Harry and I like well done dark Hary. The mafia thing doesn't really do it for me. If seeing a mob movie was a formative moment in his childhood, I guess I could understand. As it is, it feels unnecessary and kind of goofy. Nothing wrong with that. It's just not what I was expecting from the thread title.

That said, I really enjoyed what you've written so far. The back story with Lavender was well done. I also liked your idea about potion ingredient expeditions. I have to wonder if there wouldn't be an outcry at the child labor thing, though.
