Top 10 Harem Series (videos) discussion

Harems are garbage, but people like them anyway. It helps a lot that many series are at least of good quality, but in the end, people will never agree on what the best series are.

That doesn't mean we can't at least bring up what people consider to be the 'best' and discuss whether or no they'd qualify, though.

This thread is brought by this video. Its selection goes as such:

10-Highschool DXD
9-A Certain Magical Index
8-Kore wa Zombie desu ka?
7-Date A Live
6-Amagami SS
5-Tenchi Muyo!
4-Love Hina
3-Zero no Tsukaima
2-The World God Only Knows
1-Monogatari

To those who've seen these, any disagreements on the positions? Any you'd think are better? Any worse? Any videos you've seen that give good arguments regarding harem series?

Blinks... harem Anime... That is probably not the list I'd come up with. In no particular order:

- Ai Yori Aoshi
- El Hazard
- Hanaukyo Maid Team La Verite
- Happy Lesson
- Irresponsible Captain Tylor
- Love Hina
- Martian Successor Nadesico
- Ranma
- Saber Marionette J
- Tenchi Muyo

Some runners up:

- Girls Bravo
- Index/Railgun - I know it is, but I really don't think of this as a harem anime
- Mouse
- Tenchi Muyo GXP

So what are the criteria for best harem anime?
Is it to have the best harem, or the best anime featuring a harem?

The latter, according to the video. That is to say, series that have tangential harems [like Index] can count more if their plot is quite good.

For instance, Monogatari was brought up but I can't tell what about it makes it a harem, since it was all about a guy getting punched by his intestinal tract.

Still, I'd say that a good harem series is one that doesn't NEED the 'will they/won't they' aspect to be engaging. Like Trinity Seven.

Depends. Do you mean harems as in a romantic comedy with lots of girls with a winner who is pretty much a given or an actual harem?

I'll give props to DxD for it being the only harem story I've seen where the protagonist wants a harem, rather than just one girl while others flock to him. I know there's other animes and mangas like that, but DxD is the only one I've experienced.

Honestly, the latter seems to be less common, so I'm curious as to what your answer would be there.

Well, there's also the infamous School Days...although I'm not quite sure if the protagonist is pursuing the girls or pursuing the sex.

And then there's Seitokai no Ichizon, which is closer to DxD, only the protagonist isn't quite as oblivious as Issei.

Generally it's the former. Though it can end with any number of people in the final relationship.

Yeah, but while all the girls fall in love with him and confess to him, he can't be with any of 'em...
