What if Edymion was born early, such as in a stout man named Genma Saotome...

There he is on the lightpole, throwing his panda signs at the Youma (Transforming into one curse triggers the other). Writen with his "sage" advice and encouragement.

Would Usagi be willing to follow through with her obligation to marry the Prince of Earth?

What does Ranma and Nodoka think of Genma's new habits (being that Ranma is rather jealous of Genma's attention).

I doubt that she would try and marry Genma based off the fact that,
A.) He is already married.
B.) There is a slight difference in age.
C.) He is a fat lazy panda.
Of course, knowing Genma he will try to hoist off the engagement to his "Heir", provided he can get something out of the deal.

Who says that Genma can get out of this deal. Ranma is not the re-incarnation, Genma is.

Plus, Genma being married was the reason for my original remark about "Nodoka's response"

Mamoru developed a second personality that took over before he acknowledged the fact that he was Tuxedo Kamen. He would literally black out. Genma could do the same for awhile. Genma would just deny it for a longer time thinking that either he was knocked out by Ranma or that he was drunk.

It would need some work under the hood but I find myself liking this fic. Then again for reasons I've never understoon, I've always been a sucker for a Ranma/SM fic.

Genma blacking out at first sounds like a good way to get the ball rolling. Heh, in Sailor Moon, Usagi first meets Mamoru by bumping into him (and they didn't care for each other much either. Or she didn't anyways, he just found her exasperating) Perhaps Genma could wind up filching snacks/ arcade change from Usagi during her run-ins or some such?

Transfering the obligations all unto Ranma sounds like 100% pure Genma though (fighting Youma and encouraging young girls is hard and dangerous afterall. But Genma would be happy to let the boy have the training it provides) Though if not perhaps he could wind up deciding to go after the Rainbow Crystals (can't remember if thats the real name or just the stupid dub messing with my mind) with the intention of selling/trading them for sake.

I have doubts Nodoka would care actually. 10 years of Genma being gone and she doesn't seem to care about his fate at all, only Ranmas. Heck, she doesn't even mind that he spends all his time at the Tendos instead of going home with her (well before it's destroyed in the pillbox fight). I could see her perhaps getting into the mix by trying to back a magical girl or three for her Manly Son.
