Ranma ½ Void 6

Eh. Ranma running in fear, screaming about "CATS! They've come to devour our souls!" is vastly out of character. Not only is he acting like a frightened hysterical girl, which is something he'd never do if he can avoid it, but he's also broadcasting his fear, his weakness to the whole world, which is another thing he'd never do.

It just doesn't seem right. Ranma's all about being macho and putting up a front of false bravado. Him running away screaming his head off in fear is just not something I can see him doing in that situation.

I think he should carry Kitty off and pretend nothing's wrong, but Kitty realises that he's just putting on an act, because he's stiff and pale and twitchy. Or something along those lines. While Ranma's pretending to rescue Kitty she could be concerned about him and ask him what's wrong. After some nagging and pouting, Ranma caves and tells her a very condensed version of the Nekoken training, after extracting a promise from her that she won't tell anybody else about it.

In this case the cats were chasing him. And he's shown in the manga to run around in a panic when that happens.

cats catniped, aggresive and in mass. of course anyone with a minimum sen sof survival is going to run (unless he decides to beat/kill the cats, but Ranma does fear cats- not in 'Oh MY FUCKING GOD THEY ARE COMING AND I'M PARALIZED IN FEAR' unless it's a real big cat or in a sealed room full of them for prolonged periods of time)

It's an interesting idea, I'll def consider it when I get to the revision.

However, he is afraid of cats, very much so. The only part of your argument that might hold merit is him screaming about them, which I'll admit was done more for comedy then anything else. Ranma does run in a panic if he is being threatened by cats. Let me be very clear here - Cats lazying around? He'll avoid them, but not run around. Cats aggressively chasing after him? Yeah, he panics. Unless some one comes around and tries to ease the phobia, Ranma runs like hell.

And no, Xavier can't 'erase' the phobia, which is a huge fucking plot-hole in the series itself. That fucker can scrub personalities clean, but he's never bothered to cure Storm of her phobia. I mean, really? What the fuck? She is arguably a natural disaster waiting to happen and you can't be good jolly fuck bothered to clear that from her?

In your defense... there was a tiger among the cats, it was not merely cats... though when that happened with Kuno... Once Ranma went cat even the tiger was scared.

The tiger is nothing but a large cat, and unimportant compared to the number of cats.

Nice Chapter. I do see one potential plot hole that could be easily handwaved away: why does Kitty not use her power to partially phase through part of her bindings and make it appear as if she managed to break her hands free and untie herself instead of waiting for rescue?

When Kuno tried it, it was the tiger that finally caused Ranma to go Neko, not all the others, though he was close, he was attempting to get away by walking stiffly and holding it at bay.

And as a teen or adult, fending off and fleeing a dozen or more house cats is not remotely the same as having a tiger on your ass...

"Now that's a good kitty cat." the fat mutant said, scratching the Tiger behind it's ear, utterly ignorant of the unbelieving stares the rest of the Brotherhood was giving him.
I'm surprised no one has said anything about Fred! This line was absolutely hilarious, especially if you imagine it in Evo Blob's growly redneck voice.

The Brotherhood should, no, needs a new mascot!

Nope. That's actually a mistake. If you look at Ranma's eyes in that panel, he isn't looking at the tiger, he is looking at the dozen or so cats that are clinging to him in fear of the tiger. THAT is what make him snap. :sisi:

So, a trip to China is in the planning. How will Xavier (and others) react to the existence of mutant/non-human tribes with over three thousands years of history? I.e. Musk (artificial mutants with eugenics programs) and Phoenix people?

That would depend on which, if any, of them they run into. The Amazons are closest to Jusenkyo, so are the most likely to be run into. IF that happens telepathy is the most likely thing to save them from the various traps.

The Musk were thought by the Amazons to be extinct, so they can't be too close to Jusenkyo.

And the Phoenix live quite some distance from Jusenkyo and avoid everyone else, so aren't likely to get involved.

True. Ranma is much less afraid of a tiger as opposed to the common house cat. His phobia isn't quite specific when described but it obvious he finds house cats scarier and it makes more sense given those are what caused the phobia in the first place. Also the house cat is what Ranma imitates when he goes berserk, he doesn't act like a Tiger, becoming what he fears.

All the tiger did in the Kuno example was cause the cats to cling to Ranma with their claws. It is most likely the fact that the cats were scratching him that made him go Neko, flashbacks and all that.

Besides Ranma rode a tiger at one point and he didn't seemed pretty indifferent to it at the time.

Once, he had a tiger on his back biting him on the head, and he barely noticed.

Started my major revisions today. Following has been changed.

1. Minor spelling changes, nothing worth pointing out here. It's not like I screwed up with another 'Fat shapes us as we shape it' line.

2. Removed all visible indications of 'Fear' from Ranma's actions during the Catacolypse. I said Visible, not his shuddering that Kitty felt.

3. Rewrote/revised the Ranma Kitty scene thanks to Foesjoe advice. I think I like it better all around, though maybe I can revise it a bit better.

4. Added a foreshadowing scene to the front.

5. Killed a goat.

Anyway, unless some one can point out something big to me I'll be reviewing this one more time before stuffing it in my 'To update' pile.

I see you posted this.. And TUA 5... hope this means more soon...

One mistake I noticed in posted version...

Kitty hmmed thoughtfully at that. "So, like, would you be my girlfriend?"
Shouldn't it be boyfriend?

God damn it. I had actually wanted to change that whole segment to 'Won't you be my boyfriend' but I can't believe I forgot to change that one word. Fixing it now.

As for what's next, I think I'm going to hammer down and finish the next chapter of Nova next. It's already 10-12k words long, but I need to erase some scenes and rework some other stuff. Then I can finally write the finale for that chapter.
