Eh. Ranma running in fear, screaming about "CATS! They've come to devour our souls!" is vastly out of character. Not only is he acting like a frightened hysterical girl, which is something he'd never do if he can avoid it, but he's also broadcasting his fear, his weakness to the whole world, which is another thing he'd never do.
It just doesn't seem right. Ranma's all about being macho and putting up a front of false bravado. Him running away screaming his head off in fear is just not something I can see him doing in that situation.
I think he should carry Kitty off and pretend nothing's wrong, but Kitty realises that he's just putting on an act, because he's stiff and pale and twitchy. Or something along those lines. While Ranma's pretending to rescue Kitty she could be concerned about him and ask him what's wrong. After some nagging and pouting, Ranma caves and tells her a very condensed version of the Nekoken training, after extracting a promise from her that she won't tell anybody else about it.
