It's been ten years since Third Impact. The world has moved on. Most members of Nerv died in the incident. The few remaining members were cleared of any involvement, Kozo Fuyutsuki notwithstanding. But Shinji just can't seem to move on with his life. He's been drifting ever since then. Something in him died that day.

He returns to his apartment one day to find a letter.

It's supposed to be impossible. Rei disappeared in Third Impact. There's no way she could still be alive. It's impossible.

But it's all he has. It's the only link he has left. Misato is dead. His father is dead. His mother is gone. He killed Kaworu. Asuka...the less said about Asuka the better. The letter came from a place called Silent Hill.

How messed up would that be? Hrm? Shinji as the main character in a Silent Hill story just gives me shivers. Hrm? Isn't he perfect for a Silent Hill scenario?

it seems interesting, I dont remember reading an EVA horror fic.

but the main question is, what will be the back story for this silent hill, in the original the town became hell for those who commited sins against that litle girl.

some ideas comes to mind,

- This silent hill could be a 'geofront ghost town'
- the revenge hell created by Rei I
- Rei II and or III get stuck in there trying to scape from third impact now they call Shinji to help her/them out?
- Maybe Asuka's mind is also trapped there...
- Could Shinji see or find some NERV ex employees suffering for one or other sin?
- what could be Ritsuko and Misato's punishment?
- Thinking about survivors, who could them be and what/where could me their safe place...

wow, so many ideas, what do you think......

Read an Eva/Silent Hill crossover. If I recall correctly, the story had Shinji disappear and Misato was the one who went to Silent Hill to find him. Got quite creepy at times.

Well, the backstory would be mainly inspired by Silent Hill 2 and Rei's scenes in the last two episodes. Silent Hill, in this story, is the informal name for the area that surrounded the Geofront since Third Impact. Shinji will go there and face not only his own demons but also Rei's.

As for the origins of the actual alternate realities, they were formed by Third Impact itself. Originally, they were a paradise where everyone's dreams would come to reality. But...well let's just say that not everybody wants something nice to happen. The people with nice dreams began filtering out and leaving one by one until only the nasties were left. Now, they've all turned into horrible monsters, except for Rei.

As a part of the plot and character development, Shinji will gradually realize that he's traveling between the real and Instrumentality worlds. And once he realizes that the "fog" and "dark" worlds are psychoactive, he'll be much more able to act, like realizing that you're dreaming a lucid dream except he wouldn't be able to do literally anything. It'd more or less just make the few weapons he's managed to collect actually effective on the nastier monsters in the dark world, excluding Pyramid Head of course.

As for the other characters, yes there are going to be several Eva characters there. Misato will be there trying to rally the few remaining humans. Ritsuko will be with her trying to understand the nature of this place...and failing miserably because she really doesn't understand AT Fields and what the angels are in the first place. Mainly, Ritsuko can't understand what's going on because she's too busy looking at what her senses are showing. She doesn't see the metaphorical imagery common to dream states that clues Shinji in to the fact that they're actually inside the the Black Moon itself. Oh, and there will be three Reis. There will be a child that looks exactly like Rei that continuously calls Shinji "Daddy" and says her name is Yui. A bubbly, teenage Rei will be there. She will constantly flirt with Shinji and be one of his companions on his journey...in that he'll have to rescue her all the time. And then there'll be a stoic adult Rei. I'll let you guys figure out which one is the real Ayanami Rei. Just to warn you, one of them is Lilith. And I won't tell you which one is which.
